1. I was reading this article with a smile from start to finish
Rob ,   Sandton, SouthAfrica   (06.24.12)
Israel needs to invest in the religious and Arab community - they can fill in the jobs that are needed to make and maintain Israel’s superpower status in high-tech. I have been blessed with a large and profitable manufacturing plant in South Africa - I have invested greatly in Israel in the last ten years, and it is some of my very finest investments; not to mention it feels grand to support my 'second' home. I’m still smiling.
2. Investing in Israel
Magnus ,   Kolding, Denmark   (06.25.12)
That is great to hear Rob. I really commend that. Israel is a safe-haven in these times, and also the only Jewish country. Thank you.
3. Glut turns to shortage
Daniel ,   Tel Aviv   (06.25.12)
It seems that now the tables have turned. Israeli high tech companies, particularly small 5-10 people start-up operations have ruthlessly exploited the Israeli worker for far too long now. Salaries in Israel are pitiful compared to the ones received by similarly trained employees in the Western world. At the same time, successive Israeli governments have failed to invest sufficiently in the education system to provide the cheap supply of skilled labour that greedy executives and entrepreneurs out for a quick buck so desperately desire. How can one have a smile on your face? This article is decidedly downbeat. As usual, Israelis have failed to plan, and our so-called economic miracle might now end in a resounding failure. Its about time that employers started paying their workers a fair wage, and not an exploitative one, which seems to be the overwhelming practice in this country.
4. I don't get it
Micha'el ,   Beit Shemesh   (06.25.12)
I'm back in Israel after being laid off from NASA in the sates, *specifically* because people told me there'd be work, LOTS of it here to choose from. I"m applying for literally 100's of jobs, and only 1 - 2 calls in the last 3 months. I really don't get it!!! What's up? Yes: I'm 42 Yes, I've only got a B.Sc., not Masters, but I have 10 yrs experience in DSP and Aerospace engineering. If companies are having such a hard time filling positions, maybe they should DROP the age discrimination and get over this nepotism mentality. I've got good experience and am Pissed!
5. HAREDI GENIUSES
ZIVRON   (06.25.12)
These are chances to get the Haredim who are geniui to develop cyberwarfare skills with parnoso to create more Torah learning an existential contribution.
6. Age discrimination
Long time oleh ,   Tel Aviv   (06.25.12)
is illegal and just plain wrong. I suggest you adjust your resume' to make that discrimiination irrelevant in the same way that companie adjust their product spec sheets. V'hameivin yavin/
7. #4 Micha'el
Amichai ,   Huntsville, US   (06.26.12)
I wonder if I know you! I've got over 20 years experience as a systems & network engineer. I've worked for the Army, Navy, Missile Defense, NASA, Corps of Engineers, Boeing, & the list goes on. I'm afraid to emigrate to Israel for the exact reason you state - I read stories every day about age discrimination, not to mention the absolute abysmal decrease in salary I'd take IF I even managed to get a job. Combine that with the horrendous taxes, cost of living & cost of driving in Israel and I'll just stay here. I have no desire to move to Israel just to live in a land I can't afford to enjoy.
8. Age Discrimination is the worst in Israel
Levi ,   Karmiel   (06.27.12)
I have never in my life seen it as they have it here in Israel. Anyone over the age of 35 here is side lined. This does not make since to any westerner or many here in Israel. This is a failure and they have no idea the talent they have over looked.
9. Age and foreign experience a problem!
MK ,   Modiin   (06.29.12)
I too have been applying for 4 months to over 60 suitable IT management positions, with my Masters and 16 years experience, and have not even received a reply from recruiters, never mind interviews! I am 44!!!! Recruiters seem to have clear instructions to ignore over 40s and anyone with experience not from Israel itself!
10. foreigners
MIchael ,   Jerusalem   (06.30.12)
It´s not just the age, the law for foreigners avoid them to work in any I+D department and being employed on IT on other departments is very hard for the companies (talk to the Ministry of Interior, being payed double the average salary...) I really do not think there´s a lack of 10.000 qualified workers...
