32. Turkey,Syria,Iran new axis of evil!
Benny ,   Iran   (06.24.12)
You can tell the types of people you are by who you are friendly with. The idiotic Turkish gov't has chosen its "flea-infested " bed with the mullahs of Iran & Assad, the megalomaniac butcher. Go ahead guys! Knock yourselves out. You deserve each other, you are the pariahs of the earth!
33. GOOD!!!
ALBERTO   (06.24.12)
34. Sipahi, correction
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (06.24.12)
When Turkey was still friendly to Israel the two countries made joint exercises and Israel used a base in Konya for training. However Turks did not train Israeli pilots. The opposite happened. Not to mention that when USA and Germany declined to modernize Turkish airplanes and tanks Israel did it.
35. NATO will do nothing
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (06.24.12)
First - Because Turkey violated Syrian airspace repeatedly. Making them the aggressors. Second - Because Turkey is allowing their territory to be used for attacks against Syria. Again making them the aggressors. Third - Turkey has pissed off other NATO members especially Greece that will veto any NATO actions. Burning bridges there. Fourth - NATO is busy in another war and has no resources. Turkey is out of luck and they have to have a poor army - but an army nonetheless and that is something they are not able to do.
36. Erdogan, what happened to your big mouth???
Harry Wright ,   UK   (06.24.12)

41. @35 and @40
sipahi ,   Istanbul   (06.24.12)
Poor army? Wow. then you'll disaggree with the overwhelming majority of the military experts worldwide. Turkish army is the 6th in terms of firepower and capability whereas Israeli army is 10th. or ask any expert, but real experts, analysts, not keyboard warmongers.
42. #39 Sipahi
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (06.24.12)
There is a saying in Turkish that if you repeat a lie 40 times then every body believes it. It may be true for undereducated people of rural Turkey but not for the rest of the world. In this age of Internet one can easily check the facts and find out who is telling the truth. Saglicakla kal
43. @42
sipahi ,   Istanbul   (06.24.12)
Definitely!
44. #39, #41 sipahi - wrong
solomon ,   bklyn   (06.25.12)
#39- IDF pilots used to train with the Turkish airforce. One of the main reasons was to use Turkish airspace as Israeli airspace is limited. They trained WITH each other. Neither one trained the other. #41- "overwhelming majority of the military experts worldwide" is code for; you have no basis in fact so you make up this "support" of your opinion. You don't name these experts as they don't exist and/or never said what you wish they did. Anything resembling "all the world", "everyone knows" etc, is the speakers' fantasy. You live in a fantasy world that matches your wishes, not reality.
45. Everybody must know how important is turkey in this region
Harun Resit Aydin ,   Kayseri / Turkey   (06.25.12)
If anybody know the history in this region, wars over 1000 years, arabs know it very good, maybe many of israelis come as refugees from other countries so the dont know what happen here good and make mistakes against turkey, i would say everybody in this region to have good relations with turkey, its not a thing with who have better weapons or so, turks are a war nation, they born as soldiers, we have 700.000 real soldiers, but over 70 million reserves who wait to die, but we was also everytime example for freedom in this region, so let live in freedom with each other and dont provocate, maybe turkish government make some mistakes but please no politician is innocent what happen in last years here, please more coolness

solomon ,   bklyn   (06.26.12)
Although we may disagree on history, both past and recent, I welcome your sentiments. If 'coolness' could be added, many 'talkbacks' would be 'talkwiths' instead. Shalom, salaam, peace.
47. solomon first of all peace and forever friendship
Harun Resit Aydin ,   Kayseri / Turkey   (06.26.12)
my nation and my people are the only here in region, in history, yesterday and today hope for future never antisemitic, its a crime against human, we live over hundreds years with them in peace, otthoman protect them from the crime in spain and bring them to turkey, second world war our diplomats in europe give their best to protect and bring many of our jewish brothers to turkey, we have an other see to jews, generally, only because some of my or your politicians make populist politics, its sad to see how the people speak here against turks, no arab, also no european who are not jewish like jewish, but have an other world visual since otthomans, because we learn that this population ( jews ) are relatives from many of prophets so we have a high respect that is also learn and hear from my grandfathers, i think both of countries have no many friends in the world, so they must help and understand each other, reality is also its a personal problem what happens in last years between our politicians, you will see that will change in very short time again, we must have all cool head to make no bigger mistakes, we need all peace in this region, salam and shalom to my brother, that is what i see ...

It was not all a bed of roses, and not as consistent as you say. It changed with the whim of the sultan-of-the-day. Some were more tolerant, some not. A quote from G.E. Von Grunebaum : "It would not be difficult to put together the names of a very sizeable number of Jewish subjects or citizens of the Islamic era who have attained to high rank, to power, to great financial influence, to significant and recognized intellectual attainment; and the same could be done for Christians. But it would again not be difficult to compile a lengthy list of persecutions, arbitrary confiscations, attempted forced conversions, or pogroms." It always helps to face history as it was, not as we wish it. Salaam and Shalom. And to your wishes, I add Amen, Amen.
