Are they going to also make the draft dodging leftists serve too? Bet not
2. As Israeli-Arab, I agree
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (06.28.12)
Israeli arabs should share the burden either by military or national service. We should have equal rights as jews do.
3. Stupid, stupid, stupid...
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.28.12)
I guess that Hezbollah will have a field day... There will no longer be classified documents in our military which will enable Hezbollah to read us like an open book... Resign Mr. Prime Minister, and do it NOW idiot...

Equal rights -YES! Serving the Army must be such that your convictions are against all Israel's enemies, foreign and domestic. If you CAN be that loyal to Israel, then by all means. I do not believe all Arabs have your convictions and loyalty to Israel.
7. Kol Hakavod,Bibi!
Keren ,   IL-BR   (06.28.12)
All must serve Israel:Haredim,Arabs and seculars. And Arabs must serve in Jewish towns for national service while Jews must serve in Arab towns. THAT'S FUNDAMENTAL! Now,the wheat will be separated from the chaff and we will know who is who in Israel. Only loyal Arabs will be able to live in Israel because now they will decide where their hearts stand, and If they don't stand in Israel,well...I don't think it will be possible to remain among us. As for Haredim, they must be loyal for the State they live in,in the same way they are when they live in diaspora. I think this a great decision!
8. But THIS MAY ALSO HURT the Jewish People
Riva ,   Betar Ilite   (06.28.12)
As a Hareidi mother of 3 sons, two of which served in the IDF, by the way, I do not agree that every Hareidi boy should serve in the IDF. There are actually talented and dedicated Torah scholars who are needed as representatives of the Jewish People to serve as Rabbis, ritual slaughters for our food, beis din, and various other "religious positions" without which we just won't have a people! Just so happens, i have one son who is exceptionally talented in learning Gemora and aspires to dedicate his life to the above mention persuits. This is even true for other religions. There has to be something in the law which allows for certain serious guys to sit and learn or YIDDISHKITE AS WE KNOW IT WILL FALL APART!

Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (06.28.12)
At last!!!Equal entitlements and equal obligations.Nobody excluded and nobody able to exclude himself. I do hope that this becomes effective as soon as possible.Give Arab Israelis a feeling of kinship with fellow citizens and a stake in society. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
10. #8 A great Mitzvah for your son is,in my opinion,...
Keren ,   IL-BR   (06.29.12)
...not only learning Gemora, but transmiting what he learns to all his fellow Jews, including those in the Army. Knowing means nothing without practice-giving practice.
11. Riva Kol Hakavod la Yeladim
Daniel ,   Tel Aviv   (06.29.12)
It is great that two of your sons served and one is a terrific scholar. I also understand a mother's wish to protect her children. However, military service or national service will not prevent anyone from studying for the better part of a lifetime. They will have to donate time to the state for about two to three years. In a lifetime that is nothing. All our great sages and all of our prophets were leaders of the people and many of them led our people in war as well as peace. This decision has finally made all members of Israeli society duty bound to give back to the country that provides them with so much. It is a victory for Israel.
12. OH ! Now we speak about ISRAELIS
Gregg ,   Haifa, IL   (06.29.12)
Now Israel starts to include Arabs as part of the Israeli society fabric ! Arabs aren't second class citizens of Israel. They are Israelis first and foremost ! If the Army service can tougher the bonds into Israeli society, as go for it !
13. To # 3 : Sarah B,
Abdel Karim Salim ,   Jerusalem   (06.29.12)
As boisterous as you always have been you are showing juvenile naivete ; even if Arabs of Israel will serve with the IDF , I assure you they will never have access to classified Israeli military documents . So , just calm down and keep cool .
14. Keren @ #7:
Israeli 2   (06.29.12)
Your title: "Kol Hakavod, Bibi." made me cringe. However, the contents of your comments make much sense. I only hope that Israel's Army will never have a group or groups for sabbotage or mutiny.
15. Lemmings or Dodos
Aaron Kuperman ,   Baltimore, MD   (06.29.12)
Drafting people who oppose your government, and may favor the other side? Don't most countries arm groups who are potential rebels. Israel looks silly when protestors thrown dirty diapers - grenades are so much more western. Having a disloyal and disaffected army isn't always fatal - look at Austro-Hungary. And the lemming or dodo would be such a unique symbol for the zionist enterprise - no other country ever claimed them as a national icon.

primitivism and with it right to make demands of their government. stay outside the system then they are used by their thieving incompetent mps. why thieving incompetent. because they steal their arab citizens participation in every aspect of israeli society and accompanying rights. why incompetent. because it is easier to talk about mythological pal rights then deal with real situation of israeli arabs.
17. Nice concept, but enforcing it is a different matter
Elias   (06.29.12)
Conscription to an army of occupation is not everyone's dream, especially for Israeli Arabs. The desertion rate has always been fairly high, and now it might climb astronomically.
18. How are Jewish studies any different?
Ericvic ,   New Orleans, USA   (06.29.12)
Why should your son be exempted from military service in order to study Jewish studies while any other scholar will find a way to serve and then go to study? Serve your three years like everybody else and then study all you want! I know plenty people who are "exceptionally talented in learning" just like your son who served with me in the paratroopers and are now respected doctors and scholars. What makes you so special that you expect others to pay for your personal pursuits at their expense?
19. What is Gemora Good For?
Ericvic ,   New Orleans, USA   (06.29.12)
...absolutely nothing! But regardless, study it all you want, or the secret life of Superman for all we care, but do it on your own time, after serving like everybody else. And then you wonder why people think Haredi are parasites!
20. Military service for all in Israel
Moshe of Rockville ,   Rockville,MD USA   (06.29.12)
I am very pleasantly surprised by the PM's decision to go forward on an effort to unify all faiths and cultures in the defense of the Jewish State. However a word of optimism and caution:While about 3500 Muslim Americans jn the US military were deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, about 200 were awarded combat action ribbons, and one was awarded the Bronze Star. But more than 100 are being investigated by the FBI as Islamic extremists.A few years back an Army major, who was a Muslim extremist, killed 13 US soldiers and wounded 31.Because the Islamic faith tends in certain portions of the Koran and Hadith to generate hatred of the Jewish faith, it may be wise for law enforcement to interview Muslim(or anyone) suspected of potentially questionable beliefs towards the State of Israel.
21. But you have nmore than equal rights,
Reuven   (06.29.12)
due to affirmative action.

But they will have access to guns and other weapons, and they will not use them to protect the jews!
25. Integration now, or segregation forever
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (06.29.12)
President Harry S. Truman integrated the US military in 1948, and America is all the better for it...hence our first black President, Barack Hussein Obama. Executive Order 9981 "...It is hereby declared to be the policy of the President that there shall be equality of treatment and opportunity for all persons in the armed services without regard to race, color, religion or national origin. This policy shall be put into effect as rapidly as possible, having due regard to the time required to effectuate any necessary changes without impairing efficiency or morale."
26. START THE COUNTDOWN
David ,   New York, NY   (06.29.12)
From the moment Arabs are drafted into the IDF and armed with weapons, which is part of being a SOLDIER (duh), you can start the countdown for when a gun or guns are turned on one, two or many Israeli Jewish soldiers resulting in a MASSACRE. A good bet is the first Nakba day after the program gets going, or sooner. How many Israeli soldiers will have to DIE to see the insanity of this idea?
27. #18 & #19-- Monks in India
Bandoo ,   IL,   (06.29.12)
Would you say the same thing about the monks and sadhus in Thailand Tibet Laos Burma who live from the public? You know dem cute little people that make the east so interesting and spiritual. The people of those countries would think you are crazy and probably roast you on the spit. But then again in those countries 98% of the people love their religion and follow G-D. The Haradim are our Saduhs. You are obviously anti Judaism which means anti G-D. This anti Haredi thing is just your thin cover. What about the 40% of ultraseculars who don't serve but sit around Shenkin and bitch about the religious and having to G-D forbid take a day off on Saturday, Now that they are joining the army you sit around and bitch about that and try to harass them out so you can bitch some more. There is a saying. We don't keep Shabbat but that The Shabbat keeps us......Probably way too deep for you though... Be very afraid my friend. These Are the Achrit ha Yomim.... Have a nice day and learn to open your hearts.... I'm not Haredi

there are extremely gifted boys and girls also in this country who serve their time without any excuses. They are also "serious" before and after serving, abee gzunt.
29. #8- 2 year army service,not life commitment!
Yael ,   Gush Etzion   (06.29.12)
Dear Riva, It's really great to hear that 2/3 sons served in the army, I just don't understand your point though, in that there are many many talented Torah scholars amongst Am Yisrael who have taken a short time out of their Torah learning to serve in the IDF and then have re-joined the kollel or become Rabanim and continued a life dedicated to Torah study. No-one is denying anyone the right to learn Torah, it's just that the burden of responsibility needs to be shared by all. And then people can be free (and safe/ protected) to continue living their lives in whatever way they please. Shabbat Shalom!
30. WOE, WOE, WOE, why invite the enemies into IDF, wha madness!
mary_of_bethany ,   singapore   (06.29.12)
why invite the enemies who loves to hate you into your house to dine and sleep? why force arabs Israelis who loyalty only to PA to serve IDF? why tempt the spies with your military secrets and provide hamas free access to the Heart / mind of your Body? to have Arabs eating into your finance, while ranting away to foreign press about being oppress by Israelis Jews is bad enough, why contribution do you mean? "without the Arab's contribution, there is no equal distribution of the burden?" if they can stay quiet and keep away from Israelis policies and stop ranting to foreign press and aiding PA secretly, you should be smiling in your sleep already! what contribution? i think i contribute to Israel by buying Israelis products oversea in my country much more than these arabs' contributions! CONTRIBUTIONS !
