31. Palestinians 1st World Heritage Site
ltrail ,   United States   (06.29.12)
Such a rediculous and political move on the part of the UN / UNESO, to approve of the palestinian request to make The Church of the Nativity a World Heritage Site. The Church of the Nativity is located over the spot many Christians believe was the location where Jesus was born. The majority of palestinians are arabic and do not even believe Jesus is G-d. In fact, most palestinians do not like Christians and treat Christians the same way that they treat Jews.
32. I'm surprised it wasn't already a UNESCO heritage site
John Bull   (06.29.12)
Doesn't really change anything on the ground. Just means funds will be available to repair the leaky roof, spruce up the square. Nothing to get your knickers in a twist over.
33. Do christians
Daniela ,   Panama   (06.29.12)
Know some of their own history?if you see any statute,or reproduction of joshke and the cross you will see the letters INRI those were written by the Romans .and the meaning is Jesus hazard us Rex idea. Jesus of narareth king of the Jews. So... Were was Palestine and Palestinians at that time. Does UNESCO learned some history or the world body that should represent culture is a house of ignorants?
34. Israel could end the sick farce so easily.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.29.12)
In this case, as in so many, Israel's government empowers our enemies. Israel could end this sick farce so easily. Israel has incontrovertible legal proof, from some of the world's finest international law experts, that Israel owns Judea and Samaria. Yet Israel's government keeps it in the dark. Why does Bibi not serve legal proof on the U.N., E.U., all world governments and media, that Judea and Samaria are ours? It would cost virtually nothing and improve Israel's standing immensely. Especially in the run up to a key U.S. election. The world would again see a strong proud Israel that doesn't beg for approval.
35. "This is a victory for our cause"
William ,   Israel   (06.29.12)
So, it's not because they want to protect the site, nor because they feel a strong connection to it. It's all about the "Palestinians" trying to gain defacto recognition while circumventing legal and diplomatic policies. BTW, didn't UNESCO violate the UN's own charter by admitting "Palestine" as a State that even the ICJ admitted wasn't recognized by anyone? Unfortunately, this latest UNESCO action is to the detriment of Christians around the world, especially those who have witnessed the violent attacks on Christians in the Arab world as of late.
36. #12 - might be because you sided with Western enemies
William ,   Israel   (06.29.12)
The US doesn't forget that your ilk sided with Saddam against Kuwait, they sided with Hizbullah and Iran, and they've killed Americans in Israel and have cursed (on more than one occassion) US diplomats visiting them. Care to re-read the hateful racist and mysoginist comments your leaders (and population) said about Condelezza Rice? It would make David Duke blush! They certainly don't forget your injuring of a US diplomat in Gaza when he arrived to interview Gazans for a Fulbright Scholarship, and definitely do not forget your dancing on 9/11. Infact, I believe that was the one point in history that your support by Americans dropped so quickly. Do you know 12% of Americans see you as TERRORISTS?? The US might be "out of step" with Europeans who love their despots but happen to be in line with Gulf Arabs that find justification in ejecting your from their countries. I wonder why.
37. #18 - except that the area wasn't deemed "Palestine"
William ,   Israel   (06.29.12)
until several decades after Jesus' death, as an insult to the Jews of the Kokhba revolt. With your logic, you might as well call Jesus a Canaanite or Assyrian. Or though your logic, if Jesus - a Jew - is a "Palestinian" then so are the other Jews who lived there since - which means the disparate Arab population who claims themselves as a unique population are nothing of the kind. What is wrong with the UNESCO decision is two-fold: 1) "Palestinians" want the site for selfish reasons and not to actually protect or preserve it. 2) "Palestinians" in the past have shown they don't respect holy sites and don't respect other religions, so Christians are now very concerned that racist Muslims have control of the 2nd holiest Christian site on the planet.
38. #14 - true, but will "Palestinians" protect worshippers?
William ,   Israel   (06.29.12)
That's the real issue here and the answer is an absolute NO. They've shown they do not respect non-Muslim faiths nor their holy places. Just look at how Muslims tried to move in on the Plaza of the Annunciation in Nazareth and it was saved for Christians by none other than Bibi Netanyahu!! While Israel may not be interested in the Nativity for the benefit of the worshipers there, it was already been proven that under Israel all faiths have full access and rights of worship. As a Christian in "Palestine" you're not even guaranteed the deed to your own property tomorrow.
39. Well done to UNESCO and the Palestinian people
Bill C   (06.29.12)
This is a great move in the right direction and further confirmation of the deep ties the Palestinians have to their land.
40. the jews crucified jesus, know they care about bethlehem!!!!
christian ,   bethlehem, palestine   (06.29.12)
jews
41. Not a big deal.
Max Merbaum ,   Los Angeles   (06.29.12)
Is the motivation behind this political? Yes. Having said that, it seems reasonable for the claimant birthplace of Jesus of Nazareth to put on the World Heritage site. It just means that a great and delicate architectural and archeological site will be kept up by UN funds. Of all the negative places they could spend their money, the Church of the Nativity is not a bad option.
42. Pals/Arabs will soon claim the Vatican belongs to them
Abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (06.29.12)
43. Thank u, Irina!
Amadou Matar M' Bow   (06.29.12)
A new Mosque was needed in Bethlehem.
44. #5
Madeleine ,   Rehovot Israel   (06.29.12)
So now the Moslems have control over the christian site. Stupid world.
45. #15 you're right
Madeleine ,   Rehovot Israel   (06.29.12)
And the sad part is tha the rest of the world will swallow the lie. Let's see now how the church fares under Arab rule
46. Palestinians rappresented by Abu Mazen are muslims
Anna M Sedda ,   Rome   (06.29.12)
the christian palestinians are not muslims;Jesus was a jew and it does not make sense to give to Muslim Abu Mazen the control of Nativity church....Muslims Palestinians persecute Christian palestinians. So,what i Abu Mazen the muslim, have to do with the Nativity church???? UNESCO are ignorant...
47. Why not explain
Budley ,   NYC   (06.29.12)
how it is that Judaism is a religion of many races not a "people". If just the real "people wanted a Jewsih State maybe would be better to ask the 80-90% that are not from the holy land or ever had ancestors to leave and go home where they actually belong or get along nicely as a majority in one non Aparthied State. Then make West Jeruralem. and say 10KM around it like a Vatican City State and everyone wins and Hashem's Moral Law restored.
48. when the vatican talks to us about jerusalem we now know how
ralph   (06.29.12)
to treat them, same as arabs. they are of no consequence to us.
49. welcome to disneyland christianity. rest in peace.
ralph   (06.29.12)
50. @ 10
RC ,   USA   (06.29.12)
Actually, some of them are already saying that YAHUWSHUAH (Crist) or Issa was a Muslim, and some nitwits out there actualy believe it. On the other hand, Israel shoul have taken more pride in the fact that Messiah is a Yahudim from Yahudah (Judea) which is now called Palestine. Some Christian Churches are also at fault for not calling Christ by his Jewish name in their Bibles.
51. @ 40
RC ,   USA   (06.29.12)
If you were a true Christian you would have readand unerdstood Romans Chapter 11 in the Holy Bible. The Sanhedrin was able to convince the Romans to crucify Christ because it was YHWH's plan from the beginning (1Peter 3:18). Do you actually think Messiah (Mark 14:61-62) had not the power to stop them? Had He wanted legions of Angels would have ripped them all to shreds.
52. And the world is silent
USA   (06.29.12)
The Christians are to demonstrate against the UN's ignorance. Jesus was a Jew not an arab paletinian. Israel is to protect all religious places in Israel. Israel is a soverinty. the PA barely have the neans to take of their own religious sites.
53. What is a "Palestinian"? No one can explain.
Father Abe   (06.29.12)
54. Going by UNESCO's rules
tiki ,   belgium   (06.29.12)
In a few years time, the Church of Nativity won't be a Church, but an historic Mosque, part of the "Palestinian History" and the fourth holy site for Muslims. These clowns can claim whatever they want. The Church will always stay in Bethlechem // Judea, part of the Jewish land of Israel and the birthplace of Rav Jehushua, later called Jesus. It realy doesn't mean anything what some biased politicians put on a list. It's just a list, made up by some people, but historic FACTS are historic FACTS, no matter how much you try to alter them and how hard you are looking...the "Palestinians" were never part of these historic FACTS....they simply weren't there. UNESCO, blinded by it's Jew-hate, is realy making a farce of itself, showing it's incompetence and lack of knowledge of the world's first & oldest and second & biggest religions and history.
55. This curch is meaningless, just like Jesus !
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (06.29.12)
56. SHOVE your church !
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (06.29.12)
57. #32 john, 41 max
solomon ,   bklyn   (06.29.12)
You don't miss the point; you're too smart for that. You ignore the point as you believe in false "facts:, eg the "Palestinians" have been there forever and are descendents of the...canaanites? amalekites? neanderthals? LOL.
58. #18 cynic
solomon ,   bklyn   (06.29.12)
You turn a blind eye to reality. The muslims don't care a fig for the church; they even tried to build a larger mosque next door. They treat their christian 'brothers' almost as badly as they do jews. The problem is arabs claiming what is not theirs; a problem which has persisted through the centuries. BTW: Jesus was a Jew; born a Jew, lived as a Jew, and died a Jew. Neither he nor any of his compatriots ever came into contact with the word "Palestine" or "Palestinian".
59. #12 christian
solomon ,   bklyn   (06.29.12)
The opposite is true. Look around you. "Palestine" has become very isolated. Even the few muslim countries still actively speaking out on its behalf are dwindling.
60. #40 christian
solomon ,   bklyn   (06.29.12)
Thank you for revealing your hate that goes back to the dark ages. Can't you think of nothing better to write; a better, more "intelligent" reason for your hate? I guess not.
