1. Moderate Orthodox rabbis teach tolerance...
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (07.02.12)
Ultra-Orthodox Khareidim teach European acculturation, Medieval superstition, anti-education ignorance, xenophobic hate-mongering against everyone outside of their cult, passing these khilul ha-Sheim off as "blessings" that "protect" Israel (assess their "protection" by the standard of Prov. 28.9!) and the enforce all of these things on us through intolerant and insistent activism. Now they spit and throw urine, feces at Orthodox schoolgirls, throw stones at police and occasionally blow someone's hand off with a bomb. It's a short step to a Jewish Taliban called the "Zealots." Meanwhile, moderate Orthodox rabbis weakly cave to the Ultra-Orthodox Khareidim, in order to save their own credentials; failing to inspire widespread, determined social and political activism -- to make a difference. So how are you surprised about who's in control, the plight of women, agunot, Sepharadim, Eidut ha-Mizrakh, Ethiopians and converts and the direction of the country??? You've already failed to stand up for all of these, standing idly by the blood of your brothers and sisters. Unless moderate dati Jews stand up, soon, they'll come for you -- well, the Orthodox schoolgirls in Beit Shemesh are already there. Sweeping Khareidi khilul ha-Sheim under the rug, calling bad good, is part of the problem.
2. One of the best
Dan the Jafa ,   Auckland, NZ   (07.02.12)
One of the best "identify 12 logical fallacies" articles I've seen in a while.
3. At the same time one of yad vashem grafitti vandals
Chaim   (07.02.12)
was found to be a leftist activist in disguise as a Neturei Karta haredi. He participated in meetings under the umbrella of a left-wing political organization and there are photos of him taking part in their protests. Neturei Karta mentioned that this guy does not belong to their group, they are against such actions and they certainly do not believe that Zionists wanted the Holocaust. But of course the left media will not come back and admit it.
4. #3 Chaim
Michael ,   Haifa   (07.02.12)
I read your talkbacks with great amusement. They are masterpieces of pilpul correlated with a zero IQ score. You are very "talented"
5. Bicycle LOL, I hear you
R Narz ,   Toronto   (07.02.12)
When I was a child, the other kids were bugging me, telling me I should tell my mother she shouldn't ride a bike, it looked bad. My usual reply: well neither parent listens to absolutely anything else I say, why would they start now?
6. Not too long, now
JDE ,   Boston, USA   (07.02.12)
"how long will it be before we accept legislation that will outlaw homosexuality or laws that will require women to wear veils? " It's only a matter of time (probably not much time, at that) - and when it happens, you liberal, secular and Modern Orthodox Israelis will have no one to blame but yourselves.
7. #s 3&4 - neturei Karta
Alvin ,   Usa   (07.02.12)
NK deny the Holocaust. So why would they deface yad vashem? Waste of time to bother with something that never happened...
8. Learn from Bet Shemesh
Michael ,   Bet Shemesh   (07.02.12)
I don't know what it is about the so-called "tough" Israelis, but you're right they consistently roll over on these religious issues. Come to Bet Shemesh and learn how Anglos, specifically Americans, don't take this crap! (Don't tread on us!) Every violation is now met with a response. A new supermarket tried to put up "modesty" signs on our turf, they were gone within a week. They put up signs, we tear them down. We are fully prepared to plaster their entire world with naked women if we have to. The bottom line is this - you have to make the consequences of their behavior worse than what their behavior is against. These people are psychotic children and must dealt with as such. But if you let them get away with it, you're just reinforcing their sick behavior.
9. The Damage? "You"
Mikhael Izsak-Dicker ,   Israel   (07.02.12)
First renounce vandalism and violence, then we'll return. Our expectations with the uneducated, primitive, lazy haredim was and is zero. From you we expected civilized and smart behavior. And a program. You defeated yourself totally, with no help from outside.
10. 8 Kol ha-kavod, but, at best, that can slow them down
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (07.02.12)
While violence must be met with equal force, that will only get the police involved and damage the image of the moderate Orthodox. The ONLY answer is to predominate both the seculars and the Khareidim in the voting booths. The answer is to find and promote a Moderate Orthodox leader and party, to get busy--on a widespread basis--in political activism instead of leaving political activism to the seculars and the Khareidim.
11. 1 & 10 TRY # 2
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.03.12)
AN INTOLERANT GUY TALKS ABOUT TOLERANCE !!! He talks for his own church , a fake convert's one . rabbanim should stay in their beth knesseth , not be IN the Knesseth , that's not their place . We did'nt hear much of those so called "moderate" rabbanim who condemned all this charidi violence , so they agree with it .
12. Balance
zivron   (07.03.12)
A poll revealed 85% of seculars have affairs and many are proud of it so where is the balance . Its not even a noachide state let alone jewish.
13. Dangerous Fundamentalism.
Luiz F Haddad ,   Niteroi, Brazil   (07.03.12)
As a friend, I feel myself worried because of growing religious fundamentalism in Israel, specially against women. Of course, radical Haredis can't be obliged to change their positions, but they can't impose them to the State. Israeli ladies don't deserve it. Some of them have bravely fought during wars, since the independence's one. Judaism, like Christianism and other Abrahamic Faiths, means God's Love, Justice and Tolerance. All extremism is an evil. But I hope Israel's Democracy will prevail. Salutes.
