If these reports are true it is a terrible indictment on the current state of Syria. The measure of a nation is the degree to which a government uses force to control its citizens. (Australia as a model of an enlightened country that uses as little force as possible on its citizens is near the top of the global ladder on this point.) There is no doubt that Syria is almost in a civil war situation. Outside military intervention or a no fly zone at this point in time will only exacerbate the problem. The International Community's modality right now should be a combination of factors. The goal is to reduce the violence in the country and for stability to take hold.
