First of all, I HAVE sat with people who have TB & I do not have it (have been tested). It takes prolonged exposure, such as by a family member, to get tuberculosis. Secondly, TB was never totally eradicated & exists even in the US. The Asian population actually has 3 Xs the rate of TB than the African born population, so where is that mentioned here? If you tested the Israeli population there would be some symptomless TB existent & also the Asian foreign workers probably have much higher rates...So, isolating & testing only "Africans" is a bit counterproductive if you're not going to check the overall population which the "Africans" could have picked it up from....

I don't think its about racism I think alot of it is about MONEY. These people have neither health insurance or enough money of their own to pay for treatment and as Israel does not have a national health service thats free for all then if the patient or their insurance don't pay for the treatment then the hospital is out of pocket. There are 60,000+ Africans in the country 99% can't pay their bills. If each one of them needed just 100 Shekel worth of treatment that would end up costing the hospitals 6 million Shekel so if you were running a hospital would you want to be treating these people? This is another reason why they should all be kept in government run detention centre's where they can get medical care.

We learn from the article that ilegal African patients in the hospital cannot receive visitors. This is obviously because other patients need to be protected against the risk of infection by the visitors. Only for African women giving birth it is considered to open a separate ward. Why? The question is not even asked in the text and certainly not answered. The explanation making most sense to me would be that they should be able to receive visitors.
