1. Saudi is one of the UNHRC ? WOW !
Iranian Hunter   (07.06.12)
What is next ? North Korea as best example of Democracy and Freedom ? China as best example of moneyless "Communism" ? Pakistan as best example of religious tolerance ? Britain / France as best example of the success of multiculturalism ? I agree however that Assad should join UNHRC, it's a joke anyway, make it more obvious, let him join ! UNESCO is also a joke, the UN is a joke. It is really a joke. A bad joke.
2. Let Syria on the UNHRC
Dalwinnie ,   Washington, DC   (07.06.12)
They deserve it as much as every other country that thinks this group is about Human Rights. Honestly I think we should buy clown make-up and costumes for all members...only I think it might be insulting the legitimate profession of clowns.
3. I don't see why not.
Avi   (07.06.12)
This is the same body that was and is made of the worst violators of human rights, including Libya, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Turkey, Jordan, and others. All very good role models of human rights. So good in fact, that they managed to pass a resolution calling homosexuality a crime punishable by death for over a month before the west managed to intervene. Syria would fit right in.
4. Why bother.? The UN HRC,human rights abusers club,is a farce
PETER SM ,   MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA   (07.06.12)
a political farce, run as is the UN GA by the Moslem bloc &their cronies. Its agenda as its membership speaks for itself. Time the West ignored the Moslem bloc dominated haters talk fest.
5. What a joke
Ellen ,   Israel/USA   (07.06.12)
For a long time the UNHRC has been a joke. Instead of being concerned with human rights violations around the world it seems to exist to criticize Israel. Its' one statement, that eventually criticized Syria was an anomaly. If Syria gets a seat, they will join the other clowns on a joke of a committee. The only problem is the bigger fools who think that this committee has any relevance. It and the entire UN are slowly but surely becoming full time ( versus pert time) jokes!
6. UN, Assad, etc
Belinda ,   Texas, USA   (07.06.12)
I now know that people at the UN were dropped on their heads as infants!
7. This really shows the "legitimacy" of the UNHRC
jorge   (07.06.12)
Saudi Arabia a member(women have no rights at all), China, give me a break, could it be tha Iran is also a member, let Syria become one, so the whole circus is there
8. Syria as member of UNHRC
Rhonda ,   Chicago, USA   (07.06.12)
I hope they get on it! Then finally the American people will see what a farce all this is, see what it has been like for Israel to constantly have to go up against not only the HRC but the Arab bloc that controls the General Assembly. Then, maybe then, we will demand that the federal government pull out of this farce and maybe we can even start an international body made up of democracies and want-to-be democracies.
9. I hate the UN
Zev ,   USA   (07.06.12)
Usless, digsuting... makes me sick.
10. don't mock, don't laugh, UNHRC may just grant that. !
mary of bethany ,   mary of bethany   (07.06.12)
Nothing shock me anymore regarding UN, EU, UNESCO, not forgetting the very loud UNHRC . why are we surprise when UNESCO grant Church of Nativity to Palis? UN (Useless Nuts) , EU (Erroneous Ulcers), UNHRC (Unjust Nuts Hypocrites Rantings Council ), UNESCO (Useless Nuts Erroneous Sicko Corrupted Organization) Quartet has became Pentagram (Arab League is the invisible Head). ynet, pl post, toda.
11. #1
sammy   (07.06.12)
they bought their way in . israel can't even do that
12. I support Assad for UNHRC
Yisraeli   (07.06.12)
Syria should be voted for Presidency of UNHRC after all they both suit each other and all sane people know what UNHRC is really all about and has nothing to do with human rights whatsoever. Just a group of human right violators dictatorships seeking to castrate Israel and the west.
13. Let them join.
Matt   (07.06.12)
It makes our PR job so much easier to shape global public opinion.
14. Absolute proof of a festering sore...
David ,   Hartford USA   (07.06.12)
that the world calls the United Nations. If Syria gets seated on the HRC, the UN is just a cesspool of decay and should be disbanded. It's high time the CIVILIZED countries of the world expel the member countries that abuse, rape, torture, and murder their own people. Then Seal Team 6 can go into these dirtbag countries and clean out the excrement that is their leadership.
15. Why Not? UNHRC menas nothing!
Baruch ,   Houston/Israel   (07.06.12)
These are the same idiots that think that Lourdes Garcia-Navarro and Alice Walker are spokespersons for the PA. One antisemite more or less is not going to change a thing.
16. UN and Human Rights
Syd Chaden ,   Palermo Calif USA   (07.06.12)
Face it! The UN is little more than the voice of the Muslim World., spewing anti-Israel venom at every turn. While some may consider it arrogant of Assad to contend for a set on the Human Rights council, it is merely a demonstration of Islamic beliefs regarding Muslims, the true believers, and infidels, the non-believers. Only Muslims are fit to judge Muslims, and only Muslims are ordained to kill Muslims. Infidels don't understand that, but. what can you expect from infidels?
17. the definition of chutzpah but
Barney ,   USA   (07.06.12)
so are other members. all a sham
18. Why...?
solomon ,   bklyn   (07.06.12)
Why block the move? It would be fitting that Syria join the UNHRC. If the US and EU did not resist Syria’s application, it would be a stronger statement as to what the UNHRC really is.
19. Is Falk lobbying for Syria inside UNHRC?
William ,   Israel   (07.06.12)
20. move the freeloaders of the UN to Lagos
Sparky the Wonder Do ,   Falls Church, USA   (07.06.12)
or Homa.
21. I am for Assad on UNHRC. It's time for a change.
Miron ,   USA   (07.06.12)
22. Why not?
tiki ,   belgium   (07.06.12)
Birds of a feather flock together!
23. Libya had it until Gaddafi was toppled
zionist forever   (07.06.12)
The UN is a joke ... Libya & Saudi Arabia get seats on the UNHRC, palestinians on UNESCO even though they don't even have a state, Syria has sat on the Security Council before and this was at a time when they were occupying Lebanon. Israel has had more General Assembly resolutions passed against it than even the most brutal dictatorships. There are so far about 15,000 dead in Syria and the UN solution is to send Koffi Annan to do deals with Assad and Assad doesn't even stick to his part of the bargin anyway. It really would not surprise me if Assad gets his seat on the UNHRC, the UN will probably give it to him and hope now Assad is a member of a human rights organization he will be a good boy. Time to find a successor to the UN same way the UN was a successor to the League of Nation
24. Ever wonder why UNHRC has no credibility?
PaulZion ,   Israel   (07.06.12)
There you go.
25. @24 well, they do offer at least some assistance to Gazans..
Miron ,   USA   (07.06.12)
Anybody else wants the spoils? Feel free to teach them how to do it right in Somalia.
