1. No, you are wrong.
Michael ,   California, USA   (07.09.12)
Social injustice hurts more than economic injustice, especially when injustice is carried out in the name of religion. Your points are valid, but you do not sense where priorities lie.
2. There will allways be something important
Ari ,   Jerusalem   (07.09.12)
This Haredim and Arab drafting has been dragging for years. In Exodus second book of the Torah is said that 600.000 men older than 20 in age of military service left Egypt. Which means that the Torah gives importance to military service in the country's army Moses taught the Torah to Yoshua who was also a military leader King Saul and King David led the armies to war. David is considered a Holy man even with all his faults, and was a Torah sage, nevertheless he went into the army even before being King. He was a military warrior This Haredi enlistment has been hijacked politically by some Rabbis to show their strength. And they have become above the law. Most of our sages besides studyng Torah held a proffesion. You see it in Rabi Akiva in Maimonides in The Besht. etc The Rebbe was a naval engenier from the Sorbone, so this excuse that Torah learning should not be deviated is an stupid excuse. We see many Haredim that enlist in the army and study Torah, we see many Haredim holding professions as lawyers computer experts etc. It is only a few manipulated by some rabbis who are creating the problem We see many Religious peoiple in Kippa Sruga that are not less Shomer Mitzvot and Torah learning people than those of the Haredi Yeshiva students and they ar4e serving in the army.
3. might be inconvenient for author, he is THE tycoon
Miron ,   USA   (07.09.12)
and if he wants to see my protest he might consider getting away from Israel first. Cause I can't have intelligent discussion with people who think that making tomato grow out of turd costs more than 40 years of study of how to write intelligent instructions for complex machines. And if that makes yogurt cost 100 USD than buy it or leave it.
4. No last year was the wrong protest
Taxpayer ,   Hod Hasharon   (07.09.12)
The Anti-social protestsof last year had a simple message, if the Haredim can get the taxpayer to subsidize their standard of living we should be able to get the taxpayer to subsidize us as well -and right now the Bank of Israel is stating that taxes have to be raised to pay for bibi's populistic craven backing down last year. This protest says instead of our adopting the Haredi model of a subsidized lifestyle they should adopt ours. Last year we had ask not what you can give to your country demand what it can or cannot give to you. This year we have give to your country.
5. Weird Logic
Seth ,   Washington, DC   (07.09.12)
Protesters are only allowed to protest what this obscure (with good reason) writer believes is the most important cause according to...who is this guy, by the way?
6. We, Israelis "insist on sanctifying security"?!! Is Rosen
tom ,   tel aviv   (07.09.12)
mad, stupid or just left-wing, fringe lunatic? He surely doesn't live on my planet and I surely don't want to live on his.
7. Not separate issues...
D. R. C. ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.09.12)
If you think that last summer's protests and the protests about drafting Haredi aren't connected, then I think you've made a huge mistake. You see, in order to "put an end to funding the haredi parasite" and urge your "haredi friend to join the job market rather than live at the [our] expense", you have to start somewhere - and making sure that they are drafted (or do national service) by cutting funding for non-compliance is just one way to do this. Of course, the next step is to make sure that even those who do get exemptions have a limit to the amount of time that they can receive funding.
8. #2,the ancient armies were done in according to the Torah
Ita ,   israel   (07.09.12)
not like the IDF which is not run according to the Torah.. guaranteed when it is done that way you will have Chareidim in the army.. Just today there was an article on Israelnationalnews saying that soldiers in the IDF prison were forced to work on Shabbos! That would NEVER happen in the times of Yehoshua Ben Nun.. especially given the fact that in the book of Yehoshua you see that G-d is telling him that he will be with as he is following the Torah..
9. #1 no, you are wrong
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (07.09.12)
The IDF does not exist to fulfil some Leftist fantasy of "social justice". The IDF exists to prevent genocide of the Jews, and preferably as cheaply as possible. A professional army is bad because it will quickly become corrupt, a convenient way for Leftists to create well paying jobs for each other. The army should remain a volunteer force, but those who serve should receive benefits that do not lead to corruption: free bagrut and university, free child care, tax credits. Trust me, we will have enough soldiers from the mitnahel, Druze, Russian, Ethiopian, Circassian, Bedouin, national religious and Chardal sectors. No need for whining Leftists.
10. The tip of the iceberg
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (07.09.12)
Each individual has the right to decide what is important from his point of view. The author is missing the big picture getting the Haridim to do national or military service is a good first step in getting them off the dole. Reducing the dole will reduce the tax burden needed to pay for the dole, getting them in the work force could reduce our dependence on foreign workers in some fields. By serving they may get a taste or picture of life in the rest of society which could have the benefit of bringing their practices closer to the 21st century instead of the 16th century. So this is not an unimportant issue but an issue of significance.
11. #8 Joshua Ben-Nun was no 19th century European cultist!!!
Anon ,   Israel   (07.09.12)
Moses AND Joshua Ben-Nun would have wiped out 19th century European-assimilated, superstitious believers in magic, refusers to work, refusers to serve, who throw urine and feces at religious Jews like you do -- just as Moses wiped out Korach. You are hilul Hashem sanctimonious hypocrites whose prayers are an abomination (Prov. 28.9) that harm, not help, Israel!
12. Parasite>?
Mike ,   Australia   (07.09.12)
Typical leftist trash. Everything is acceptable as long as it is spoken by those on the left. Chas V'shalom something is said on the right side of things it turns into a media bloodbath. For example, it is supposedly and apparently okay to say the "Hareidim parasite" but if someone says the "african cancer" in relation to the illegals in TA, you can bet that the leftists will be calling for the exile of the person from whose mouth those words emerged. This is typical leftist hypocrisy and I am getting used to Ynet giving THESE fifth column parasites a platform to spread their "ideology"....
13. #11
Ita ,   israel   (07.09.12)
wow. such hate.. and then you want to know why people don't want to serve in an army with people like you. the chareidim might dress like 19th century Europe.. but that is the ONLY similarity. And Moshe didn't do anything to Korach.. the EARTH swallowed him up.. stop judging a whole group of people by some nuts.. those people do NOT live by the Torah.. All anybody has to do is open the Tanach and you will see that the Torah does see the need for an army. However, an army that 1. evacuates jews from their homes.. 2. forces jews to work on the shabbat 3. doesn't let a man walk out of a room for following halacha .. is not being conducive to defense of this holy land..
14. Both protests are wrong
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (07.09.12)
Focusing on the Haredim is wrong, when the Arabs and the leftists have a far lower rate of service. It must be equal. Instead of demanding more handouts we should be removing illegals and end the importation of foreign workers. Then we can transition those that are getting aid to being workers - lowering the tax burden and making more money available for our defense.
15. #9, #14, You are both promoting leftist concepts.
Michael ,   California, USA   (07.09.12)
"free bagrut and university, free child care, tax credits. " "lowering the tax burden and making more money available for our defense. " Should you be called "useful idiots" both?
16. #15 are you kidding?
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (07.10.12)
Making more money for defense budget is a leftist idea? Employing more people is also a leftist idea? You should be called a moronic foreigner. Why don't you solve your budget problems. I bet that will take a lot more effort than solving ours. I have been called a lot of things, leftist is not one of them.
17. I agree with the author a 100%
daniel ,   Israel   (07.10.12)
What are haredim going to do in the army? An army that forcefully recruits soldiers will have a weak moral. It's better for Israel to have a professional army and to stop paying Hardim free yeshiva education for life.
