31. Disgusting man.
Keren ,   IL-BR   (07.11.12)
If this is the spiritual representative of Sephardim in Israel, they are in very bad situation. Someone honest from his congregation must explain to him that nobody is forbidding his dears to study Torah;what has been said ,and will be implemented,is that they must serve the country they live in for ONLY 3 years. During this time, they can go less to internet to see naked women in their spare time and study in it. After these 3 years they can go back to full time study and internet naked women.
32. # 26- Israel owes it to the Torah learners
Arnold ,   Canada   (07.11.12)
On April 15 1948 Israel was attacked from all sides. It was man , machine , and prayers that saved Israel from destruction. Since then the Torah learners have had a pretty safe haven to study. Learning Torah is an asset for mankind but do not fool yourself to think learning Torah will save you from your enemies.
33. so it goes
fred lapides ,   New Haven, USA   (07.11.12)
...hey, lebe: does that explain all the earthquakes in other nations, even those with no draft for military service. A poor excuse for asking exemptions for your followers who are to busy to defend their nation so you can believe what you will
34. Loont tune wack job with a rag on his head...move on geez
aL   (07.11.12)
35. The devil is not a jewish concept
Yossef   (07.11.12)
it's pure idolatry, Rabbi!!
36. two words

"Plate Tectonics" look it up. ha; "god". sure.
37. The Role of the Na'vi
Adam Neira ,   Paris, France   (07.11.12)
"Sephardic Chief Rabbi Rabbi Shlomo Moshe Amar on Wednesday said that Tuesday's earthquake was caused by persecution of Hareidi men who avoid military service." This is a misinterpretation. Yes it is true that G-d sends messages to us. But it usually takes a certain kind of person who is able to interpret the significance of an event. A true Na'vi is both an interpreter of current events and a prophet of future occurrences.
38. I can't believe people like him are still around
Me   (07.11.12)
What a lot of barefaced bogus from a rabbi probably supported by Ishai, Israel's perpetuous liar. He knows as well as anyone that the working people can't bear the weight of his ominous public, much less let the state prosper.
39. To #11
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (07.11.12)
Although I'm not Jewish, I can explain what the Rabbi meant hahahaha: Homosexuality and all that gay stuff causes earthquakes in Israel. This latest quake was only felt in Israel, ergo a learned Rabbi is free to attribute it to whatever cause du jour is near and dear to his heart. Makes perfect sense to me :-)
40. Shlomo Amar's plot
Geologist ,   Jerusalem   (07.11.12)
In Shlomo Amar's'cellar were discovered some clandestine old earthquakes
41. Amar -- The Jewish Ayatollah
Scott ,   USA   (07.11.12)
42. Devil's work
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (07.11.12)
Trying to draft all Arabs is also the Devil's work. Whose strange idea was this? Let there be new elections and see how far Kadimah gets.
43. Ne 5.
Arn. ,   Sweden   (07.11.12)
According to my opinion - " You are One of the Most Deceived Selfdeceived individuals in those Talkbacks. And the so called Christiana and Theologians in all the Universities you refer to, are even worse. I will not threw any pearls to those Swines more than to write - Such people are called Usefull Idiots in the World of Politic. Arn.Sweden.
44. Don't forget . . .
Danny ,   London England   (07.11.12)
At the founding of the State of israel there was a status quo agreement between David Ben-Gurion and the Agudat Yisrael confirming that yeshvah students could not be drafted. You cannot unilaterally vary the terms of an agreement, certainly not one built into the State's foundation. Bibi understands this even if many posters are obviously not from Israel and therefore are unaware of this.
45. Another cause for the earthquakes
Ron ,   Zichron Yaakov   (07.11.12)
I happen to be in the middle of prayers and G-D spoke to me revealing that until the Haredim work to defend our nation He will continue to send earthquakes and enemies our way. And, until the Haredim treat all daughters of Israel with respect and relinquish their seats on busses, He will curse them with unemployment and poverty. So, am I a chacham or a madman? How does this differ from Rabbi Amar's claim? Simply put, this kind of intense and fanatic belief is self deluding and will continue to be so. The more access we will allow all Israelis to work and education etc. will erode the fundamentalist belief structure and allow us to be devout or not as we see fit... without lunacy.
46. The Draft is devil's work - Rubbish
Spencer ,   Israel   (07.11.12)
Dear Chief Sephardic Rabbi Amar, If there are schisms within the Jewish nation it is people like you who are creating them. Serving in the Army of G-d's promised land to ensure it's safety and survival does not prevent one from studying Torah. G-d promised us this land and He will help us against those bent on it's destruction, but please remember that G-d helps those who help themselves and the way to help Israel survive is to serve in the IDF.
47. #13 Seculars
Noa   (07.11.12)
do share the burden of Torah and Mitsvot, and do so even without added superstition, hypocracy and arrogance, unlike the self declared rightious datiim!!!!!!!!!!
48. Noa #47
Keren ,   IL-BR   (07.11.12)
Torah and Mitzvot are not a burden.
49. The Haredim should be ashamed that WOMEN are drafted into
(07.11.12)
the IDF to defend the country while MEN of the religious sects are not. MEN should be defending the nation, not women. Isn't that common sense? Does a husband send a wife down the stairs with a gun to deal with an intruder or does he go himself? I would hope he would be man enough to go himself. So it should be with the nation. ALL males who are physically able should serve in the IDF and ALL females in the National Service. ALL.
50. bigotry (End).
Shmuel ,   Brazil   (07.12.12)
.
51. About my own #48
Keren ,   IL-BR   (07.12.12)
In a deeper reflection,I correct my #48.... Torah studies and Mitzvot ,even being the most elevate pleasure one can reach, are indeed a burden when done with deep seriousness.
52. THE RABBI SOUNDS LIKE CHURCH LADY!
bob ,   potomac md   (07.12.12)
who is behind this draft of Haredim...Is it SATAN?
53. He hurts his credibility.....
Sailor ,   USA   (07.12.12)
By making such ridiculous statements, this rabbi hurts his credibility. It is a shame that his followers can't use their own critical judgment and common sense and recognize him for what he really is...
54. the state exists because of secular jews.
ralph   (07.12.12)
very orthodox jews never helped at all in over 200-300 years of struggle to establish israel.
55. What a clown
Haim ,   TA   (07.12.12)
oh the yeshiva boys are being persecuted are they? Take a reality pill dude. Any thoughts on all those others who have given their lives defending the state? While those lazy bunch of parasites sit on their holy back sides all day.
56. THE REAL ISSUE
David ,   New York, NY   (07.12.12)
Yes of course the Rabbi is cuckoo but that's easy. The real tragedies, (plural) past, present and and future, are that the brainiest people on Earth have allowed themselves to be influenced by, put in harm's way and even had their existence threatened by a religious sect which would be viewed as an extreme, laughable, aberrant, backward culture were it not presented to the nation as: "Judaism."
57. The Devil
RC ,   USA   (07.12.12)
Although I do not agree with Amar , there is an entity called Satan in the Tanach. Hell which is highly debatable seems to have been made up by the Christian Popes because we were never warned about it in the Old Testament and eternal torture is not God’s plan for humanity. Look in the Old Testament: (1Chronicles 21:1, Job 1:6-12, 2:1-7, Zechariah 3:1-2). In the New Testament Satan is referred to as Satan, The Serpent of Old, The Dragon, The Devil, (Revelation 20:2).
58.  Devil worship?
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (07.12.12)
In Judaism the devil is not a sentient being but a metaphor for the evil inclination – the yetzer hara – that exists in every person and tempts us to do wrong. The Torah requires defense of the country and self. Therefore what is the basis for the rabbi’s statement? Is he emulating a Christian priest? This is not a new point; the rabbi seems to believe that the draft will interrupt the student’s continual study. They have made Torah study their occupation. The Ram Bam was against this concept and recommended all men learn and practice a trade. It may be the time to eliminate the office of chief rabbi which was established by rulers to deal with their Jewish population. As Israel is now the Jewish homeland a chief rabbi is not needed certainly not 2 chief rabbis.
59. Where in Torah?
Sam ,   Texas   (07.12.12)
Is anyone excused from national service to study Hashem more than others study Him?
60. Did King David serve the Army?
Sam ,   Texas   (07.12.12)
As far as I can discern from Torah study, he did. Then why do I see so many Haredi at his tomb? They should follow his example, and quit the facade at his tomb.
