1. Yada, yada, yada. Haredi mud in smart people faces.

But I will try to read their website if I find it. It is important to know what they say, propaganda or not. Naturally, their website will defend what their leaders say, so it will be quite educational. From this article I did develop some appetite to read the Haredi publication. In parallel, I consider it progress if Haredi reads what Ynet or other dailies say in Israel and outside.
2. Pictures of women on a haredi site??

than ever. I only hope that ,they will be very careful with their humor ,not to offend the secular Jews.
5. Good luck to them.
rebecca ,   Modiin   (07.17.12)
They have a hard task ahead of them, especially with people like #1 who have already made up their minds about what's in this new web site. Maybe we could see it in English too sometime? So the world can also have another view of Haredim?
6. Yair , why do you receive 800 shekels
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.17.12)
a month , while students at the Univ don't receive it ? In every army you have soldiers who fight , and others who don't . But they are NEEDED too . They work to organise , supply the army , without them nothing can be done . Comparing them to yeshiva "students" is not only very biaised , but shows some ignorance about an army .
7. Seculars r in denial they are racists !/end

BUT all of us are forced into it. that's what National service for everyone means. Everyone must give their all, the trumpet player, the pilot, the3 infantrymen and the computer experts. there may even be room for Torah scholars, but not everyone is Torah scholar or an aerospace engineer. I proud of having been forced into it and of having given my all.

Yair was debunking the argument that 'it's not fair for my son to put his life on the line while your son sits and studies in safety.' Most army personnel are not putting their life on the line, as he pointed out. He was not speaking about the necessity of the non-combat jobs, nor qualitatively comparing Yeshiva students to them. His point stands.
10. media with an agenda
Joseph ,   London UK   (07.17.12)
Much of the description of how the secular Israeli media distorts Haredi life could apply to how the Left media in the West distort Jewish life. The Guardian, The Independent and the BBC present their public with a distorted view of Jews and Israelis.
11. # 6 Uni Stuidents get Much More
Shuki ,   the North   (07.17.12)
As a university student, it would be wrong to deny that most of our tuition is State subsidized. The amount we way 10-15,000 shekel a year is a joke compared to what is actually paid to the university for our tuition.

#10, in what way does the media distort haredi life?
13. Maybe not...
Miriam ,   USA   (07.18.12)
"First you delegitimize haredim, then you demonize and the next stage is discriminatory laws and we are definitely on our way there." Except that the discriminatory laws support the haredim, rather than the other way around. Oops. Let's ignore that, shall we? The fact that our politicians discriminate against Reform, Conservative, and even secular Jews is also something we'd prefer to ignore.

The State invest in those students , who will later be productive and contributing Israelis . Are yeshivot not receiving some State money ? .

He said that there are many "sitting in the Kyria" and no one complains about it , but only about the yeshiva students . And my reaction was that they are needed , while the yeshiva students are'n't .
16. Reply to number 12
Joseph ,   London UK   (07.18.12)
The media focuses on everything wierd or extreme, as if that were typical. For some media the abnormal is the normal. For instance the media show flag burning on Yom Haatzmaut, but not the Israeli flag flying over Ponovez Yeshivah. You seldom hear that Rav Shach, spokesman for the Lithuanian Haredim, had a son who was a career IDF soldier. If one mentally deranged Haredi spits on a girl that makes headlines, as if he were typical, not mental. Statements by Rabbonim are taken out of context and misrepresented.
17. Fear or sin!
Moshico ,   Jerusalem   (07.18.12)
FearThe Ohr HaChayim teaches that the Torah is emphasizing that every single male over the age of twenty was worthy of serving in the army. But there are laws that stop one from serving in the army as well, fear of battle and sin. So there we have it, if one is afraid to serve in a fighting unit he should be relieved form his military duty the same is if one has sinned or thinks he will should also be relieved. But now we have national service and one needs not to be afraid from voluntary work to help other Jews.

That is fine; however you are bringing up a new argument about the necessity of yeshiva students versus military personnel. Yair was addressing the argument that "it's not fair that the secular place their lives on the line while the haredi do not." This was the paragraph before Yair's statement. "So what does he have to say to the average angry secular man whose sons are dying for their country while he sits in the yeshiva and studies?" You are talking about their necessity, a valid, however distinctly different point.
19. Bus them to the front lines where they can pray
mea   (07.18.12)
So the question should be this: if praying is a reason for exemption then even seculars should be able to claim it to avoid service. Unless the haredis can prove their prayers are more solid than a seculars then nobody gets special treatment. Of course they cannot do this, which makes the exemption impossible--and they must serve. Three years and they can get out and go do whatever they want, WITHOUT state support. You want to pray instead of earning a living, have at it, but not on my shekel.

"so what does he have to say ........." My comment ,: he can't say ANYTHING , has to shut up . Those who are sitting in the Kiria , are NEEDED personnel , you can't compare them to the unnecessarry yeshiva "students" , even if both of them don't fight . And they , in the Kiria are a PART of the army .
