1. the coalition has a month at best anyway
zionist forever   (07.17.12)
Sadly all the real power is concentrated in the hands of the single issue parties and so if Bibi can't please everybody his government won't survive. Before Mofaz came on the scene Bibi was ready to hold elections because infighting was causing the coalition to splinter. Now Mofaz is gone its the single issue parties again who will decide when elections take place. Shas do not want Tal Law reform they want the Tal Law and if he wants to avoid being painted as a haredi stooge then Bibi has no choice but to address the issue and as soon as he does it will be goodbye Shas. If he doesn't it will be goodbye Liberman. Assuming he survives the Tal Law reform which he probably won't there is the Levy Report which will give Bibi his next headache and if he doesn't accept that then its goodbye nationalists. Bibi will be very lucky if this coalition survives to anything like August. I imagine in about 2 weeks an election will be announced although Bibi must try and deal with the Tal Law because next election every secular party will be promising reform whilst Bibi had his chance and didn't do it. Its just a pity in this country such trivial things as haredi enlistment can be considered important enough to bring down a government.
2. Eh?
John ,   Hamilton, ON   (07.18.12)
"In the early days of the Jewish state, Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion agreed to exempt about 400 pious students from military service so they could devote themselves to lifetime study of the main Jewish scriptures. Now that number has grown to about 60,000 men supported by state handouts, occasional work and donations from family and friends." Women need not apply. Maybe Haredi women could take over their menfolks' responsibilities.
3. Hopefully quit politics and go back to being a bouncer

4. I support Lieberman
Moragh   (07.18.12)
and hope he will stand his ground. Israelis are blind and cannot see that Lieberman is strong enough to sort out all the rubbish sitting back with loaded pockets!
5. Question: what happens if nothing happens?
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (07.18.12)
"No agreement" seems the most likely scenario. So what happens 08.01 if nothing has been agreed? Might that (whatever it is) be the gov't strategy? Just floating down the river wearing white hats, sippin' pina coladas and whispering "Yiheyeh b'seider"?
6. Forget about it, he's no rookie
