1. Scratch another one off the list
zelig ,   memphis u.s.a.   (07.18.12)
Now let's see- it doesn't look like Holland will be a great place for the haredim to flee to avoid the draft. Perhaps Mali..no they've been taken over by Al Queda.Or Poland? Nope. Not Poland...or the Ukraine...or South Africa Say..does anyone know what real estate prices are like on South Georgia Island?
2. it might be too later for holland anyway
TRIPSTER ,   LA PAZ, BOLIVIA   (07.18.12)
in a small country like holland, the muslim population is nearing 1 million.their welfare state is busting by the seams.85% of their muslim countrymen are on social assistance and public housing.shipping which is their number one bread earner is down almost 60% from 5 years ago due to the super tankers that once stopped in rotterdam ,now they are able to go directly from the orient to north and south america .
3. Shame that Dutch are willing to accept terrorist groups
William ,   Israel   (07.18.12)
as legitimate governments. I guess its ok when its far away - just wonder when its closer to Amsterdam what the Dutch will think. Arabs too welcomed terror groups until they became the target of them.
4. The Netherlands Continues to Embrace Groups Anti-Jewish
ltrail ,   United States   (07.18.12)
Between the nation's morals and its attitude towards Israel, the Jewish homeland, the Netherlands will continue to slide down the slippery slope and will eventually become a non-entity.
5. Not the 1st time
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (07.18.12)
That the Dutch supported fascists intent on our genocide. The really bad news is for Holland when we stop treating them with respect and start treating them as they treat us.
6. Israel was more respected before we adopted appeasement.
Chaim ,   Israel   (07.18.12)
Think back before the Oslo Disaster. In those days, Israel was highly respected by friends and foes alike as a gutsy little state. Israel was far more highly respected BEFORE we adopted the sick policy of appeasement. We need to return to our former self respect.
7. Ha-ha, Nigel Powers from Goldmember comes to mind.
leo ,   usa   (07.18.12)
8. Dutch Govt freindly to Israel ?! Hardly they
DT ,   TA Israel   (07.18.12)
are part of the "old" EU. That is as bad as saying Bush jr was a friend of Israel.
9. For Netherlands to slide to the left is just as unfathomable
tom ,   tel aviv   (07.18.12)
as Israeli Peace Now phenomenon. But it looks as if the Dutch people have decided upon their own demise. Pity, of course it will be to our inconvinience but the real tragedy shall be theirs.
10. blah blah blah ....
Harmen Breedveld ,   Leiden, Netherlands   (07.18.12)
Israel simply is not an issue in the Netherlands right now. People are all focused on the economic crisis and the various policy proposals to cut the deficit and/ or improve the economic conditions in the country. Insofar as people do pay attention to the conflict (and trust me, they do not pay any attention), there is a broad feeling that there should be a two state solution. The vast majority of the people in the Netherlands, as far as I can tell, feels that we should support the state of Israel, AND support a state for Palestine, since that, from the Dutch perspective, would be the most equitable solution. But again, it is not an urgent issue. I would even venture that most Dutch people are fed up with both sides in the conflict. But, this is just an impression. Perhaps important for Israel, it has lost much, much support among the Dutch population in the past 20 years. There does seem to be a broad feeling that what Israel is doing in the territories is not acceptable.
11. SP is scary.
Aaron ,   The Netherlands   (07.18.12)
If SP wins this election, the Dutch Israeli relationship will turn extremely sour. PVV on the other hand, are very pro-israel but will only turn the country into diversity.
12. Dutch Government
Max Molenaar ,   Nahariya -Israel   (07.18.12)
The Dutch revoked my citizenship when I made aliyah in 83. But with this future prospect I would have gladly renounce it. Hamas are terrorists, and Holland is going to support talks? Money will be next! Holland, I spit on you!!!
13. 'As long as Israel continues to build illegally ...'
TaylorT ,   Earth   (07.18.12)
...so please keep doing this! Listen to the fascist among you and keep doing what you're doing. Because if you stop, then you'll regain your place in the civilised world. And that would solidify Israel forever. And who wants that?
14. Holland
Shoshieb ,   Migdal Israel   (07.18.12)
One of my Dutch students told me that there are more mosques than windmills now in Holland - are they going to be sorry or what?!
15. dear Israel
RM ,   Amsterdam NL   (07.18.12)
Please mind your own business! thank you a dutch citizen
16. wow
Thea ,   Lienden   (07.18.12)
already such hate towards Holland when it really at the moment is one of Israel's strongest supporters. Please get a grip Israel...this kind of hostility is, at the moment, unwarranted.
17. #15
R ,   Israel   (07.18.12)
The entire world minds our business, Why should you be exempt?
18. I wish their new government luck in running th country well
zionist forever   (07.18.12)
Holland has never been a friend to Israel They are one of those liberal left Europan countries that have never had issues with terror or been to war in modern time unless it's as part of some foreign peace keeping force. We dont do much if any trade so this really I nothing to worry about especially as they do not have a very loud voice on the global political arena so who cares what they think?
19. #13 TaylorT - More importantly...
Devorah   (07.18.12)
who wants opinions from a simpleton like you?
20. The Dutch will get theirs
M ,   US   (07.18.12)
Guaranteed...when the moozlems finally cower the inhabitants of Holland into submission, the "hearty" Dutch will have earned their just desserts. Better say good bye to all of the pot and hashish and oh yes, adios to the red light district and to all of the pubs and all of those great beers. You reap what you sow!!
21. talk is cheap... just like the dutch
Daniel ,   IL-TA   (07.18.12)
dutch tolerance for jews was not based on respect, but indifference. when they had the chance in WO II their real face came out. Though we have supporters in Holland, the countries actions over the last 70 years varied from assiting nazis to issuing non-jew declarations just to do some bsuiness with terrorists and apartheid countries like saudi arabia... keep this in mind. Also sadly most dutch politicans as of the 1970s were either nazi supporters (the socialist den uyl was a supporter of dutch nazi party nsb, or jezuit trained like van agt or van mierlo, basicly antisemites) or kosher stamp decendents of judenrat jews (oudkerk, wallage, cohen, polak). So please do not mix the acts of a few rightious with those of the indfferent majority and considerable jewhating groups! Holland will get all the multiculutural blessings it deserves, hey parts of amsterdam and other cities are already muslim no-go areas
22. Dear Israelis
Mark de Raaf ,   Amsterdam   (07.18.12)
How much I respect the Israeli fears of European politics, please don't single Holland out as an enemy. The general idea here is that people are on Israel's side. Especially young people don't buy the Pallywood propaganda. Maybe some old rusty left-wingers tend to favor the Palis but the young succesful ones don't. As for mr. Gerstenfeld; await the elections, please. You will be proven wrong :)
23. #15 is most likely from Rotterdam and well they are all nuts
Jake ,   The West   (07.18.12)
24. Harry "Jews to the Gaschamber" van Bommel
Harald Geersen ,   Holland   (07.18.12)
Harry "Jews to the Gaschambers" van Bommel, the number 2 of the SP (socialistparty) is a true fascist. He participated in anti-Israƫl/pro-palestinian demonstrations.
25. #10 - Very True
jj   (07.18.12)
Israelis don't get that the rest of the world is not as interested in the country as their media makes out. sure, some people in european countries have an opinion on the region, but nothing beyond a passing interest. There are those that are very interested, but for the most part, they are a minority. The rest (majority) have no opinion, or put simply - don't care about you or palestinians as much as you think they do. as much as this might pain you; you are not the centre of most people's concerns.
26. Is this biased Anti Israel posture
Tim ,   Brighton   (07.18.12)
A figment of my imagination? I have NO qualms whatsover in criticisim of Israel where that is FACTUALLY CORRECT as I have with criticism of Holland that is FACTUALLY CORRECT. Indeed there are no more vocal critics of Israel than Israelis themselves. Its where the politicians like some in Dutch Political Circles who are at great pains to present ONE SIDE of this tragic conflict at the expense of others - you begin to wonder about their motives Take for example their seeming obsession about opening up a dialogue with Hamas as if they are some sort of quiet peaceful group who want peace. This is the way that they are presented by some Dutch politicians When in fact their Charter seeks the total annihilation of the State of Israel AND its people, when rockets STILL are fired INDISCRIMINATELY into Israel, when they teach their children from an early age that it is RIGHT to murder Jews, when they are smuggling in arms at an unprecedented rate...I can go on and on...And remember Israel QUIT Gaza years ago and it was only their almost immediate attacks on Israel AFTER QUITTING that the bloackade was enforced. Consider if there was NO BLOCKADE. By now Gaza would be armed to the teeth with every concievable weapon..even WMD.. And Hamas are quite open about their intentions so why are these Dutch Politicians turning the other way?
27. extra attention to #16 please
Judith ,   Lelystad, NL   (07.18.12)
Thea is right. My gosh, this entire article is purely based on speculations about a possible outcome of the next elections. A zillion things can happen in the meantime. For now, we are one of Israels strongest supporters. Also; please remind that the leftist parties such as SP and the Green Party are getting elected because of internal problems with the economy, etc. etc. NOT because the Dutch in general suddenly decided they want to dump Israel. You've got to see things in perspective. I think the country still doesnt hate you, but just has other priorities. It doesn't mean that it won't be getting a bit harder to win the next government's vote in a lobby in favor of Israel. Im sure it will. But to put on the "role of the victim" again and start yelling about a second rise of fascism in Holland... I think Holland is definitely innocent until proven guilty.. And you might be surprised by the outcomes of her trial.
28. Israel will survive with or without the SP.
tiki ,   belgium   (07.18.12)
Question is....will Holland? Holland has one problem, it overrates itself as a 'power in the world. It's a small country build on piles, has too many people and a lousy economy. The SP (old communist/ ultra, ultra left), will not change that. The Dutch money vaults are empty!
29. Hey Gerstenfeld, just wait the elections before you start
Rose ,   Leiden, Holland   (07.18.12)
to speculate about what could happen if one party is going to take lead in the elections. For now its not sure at all that the leftists are going to take it. Besides, Israel is on no one's mind at the moment, no illusions about that..so no trial before proven guilty ok?
30. Oh, who cares?
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.18.12)
It's not exactly as if this would be the first time the Dutch sold their souls and, besides, does anyone really care? Not I. The Dutch have not contributed much in the way to civilization in several hundred years. One day, the North Sea will simply reclaim that nasty little country, and no one will care. Least of all I. Good riddance to a pack of hypocritical and neo-Nazi rubbish. The Dutch sold their collective souls a very long time ago. There is no helping them.
