1. No MK Michael Ben Ari you are the garbage can of history
Haim ,   TA   (07.18.12)
it amazes me how such a dispicable and vile man holds public office. Only in Israel i guess.
2. was it really necessary.
ky   (07.18.12)
either to send the book or to tear it up? There are enough problems in the world without creating more conflict
3. Demogogue
EM ,   Ra'anana   (07.18.12)
What a horrible, small minded man. He should be tossed out of the Knesset for destroying the NT...or any book for that matter. The NT represents the beliefs of hundreds of thousands of citizens in Israel.. people to which as a member of Knesset to serve, it is his duty to serve. And I wish these demogogues stop justifying their insensitively, racism, and hooliganism by claiming vengeance for the Inquisistion, Holocaust, etc.
4. A novel way to make friends .Try the Koran next
Roland Seener ,   London England   (07.18.12)
This is a job for Superman Batman Spiderman or our long awaited Messiah to deal with.Certainly not any ordinary man who has not thought out the consequences to 'Clal Israel'.In so doing such an inflamatory act an added tension is created.Solve the other problems of inter Hareidi Hiluni rivalries first before putting more fuel on our overloaded fire. POINT BLANK...STUPID !
5. missionaric
tzfas yid ,   tzfas   (07.18.12)
If somebody mailed a chumash to somebody with the express purpose of converting them - than I would certainly understand if they would rip it up. That is far different than ripping up a random chumash. So too with their 'bible'. If you send it to me in order that i will be swayed by it - than darn straight I would rip it up. But that is far different than randomly ripping one up. Dont provoke us - and we wont provoke you. But mailing it to a Yid is simple missionaric provocation - and it should be treated that way.
6. Simply Stupid
yaakov ,   TA   (07.18.12)
The esteemed MP apparently thinks that being at war with Muslims isn;t enough-he wants to incite the good relations we have with many Christians who are our supporters, especially our Evangelical friends---yes indeed some Jews can be very stupid!
7. Stupid, Shameful Act
Glen ,   NYC, USA   (07.18.12)
How would Ben Ari react if a Christian Member of Parliament in another country ripped a copy of the Old Testament? Would he be understanding if they claim they found Jewish history to be shameful, or would he claim they are bigoted and anti-Semitic? Whatever one's personal views of Christianity - or any religion, for that matter - are, being so disrespectful to another religion in such a stupid and public way only harms Israel's public image. While I'm a Sabra and know that idiots like Ben Ari are thankfully in the minority in Israel, I'm disappointed that his painfully stupid actions will put Israel in a negative light, especially among religious Christians...who are very big supporters of Israel here in the US. To anyone who defends his actions (I'm sure there are bound to be some), just imagine how you would feel if someone did that with a Jewish religious text. And don't claim that by sending the unsolicited text, the Christian group opened the door to this, or deflect attention by claiming that Islamists have showed a blatant disregard for other religions (i.e. Timbuktu). That doesn't matter. What matters is that this member of the Israeli legislature reflects very badly on his country by doing such a stupid thing. His constituents should be ashamed.
8. No need for that
Eyal ,   USA Israel   (07.18.12)
All he had to do is say thank you, but no thanks.
9. What he said is right, what he did ...
Yossef   (07.18.12)
I'll not comment ;-)
10. A disgusting and odious MK
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (07.18.12)
This man is a complete disgrace. It is a shameful and odious act to tear up the religious testament of the largest religion in the entire world. It is also incredibly stupid and provocative. Who the hell does he think he is?
11. What a childish thing to do. Grow up.
Avi ,   Israel   (07.18.12)
12. Ben Ari...I LOVE you for this !

15. MK BENARI rips new testament.
Elsie. ,   Gush Halav.   (07.18.12)
If it was the Torah being torn up, all h-ll would break lose, return it to the sender , it was all he had to do,I would also like to remind Mr Ben Ari, that it was not just the Jewish people that sufferd in the middel ages, he needs to study history more,so, shame on him.
16. An extreme right wing idiot
Ratch ,   Israel   (07.18.12)
An extreme right wing idiot. A great example of how to win friends and influence peolpe. He's a blot on our Knesset and country.
17. Childish scumbag...
Dr. Fox ,   Jerusalem   (07.18.12)
18. If Christians don't want their holy book thrown in the trash
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (07.18.12)
Don't send it out as unsolicited junk mail to mass of people who won't respect it.
19. What an odd claim
Michael ,   BRIDGE CITY   (07.18.12)
“This abominable book (the New Testament) galvanized the murder of millions of Jews during the Inquisition and during auto da fe instances,” It is the OLD Testament which justifies the occupation of Canaan and the displacement and murder of the natives. Nowhere in the NT are there any instructions to steal kill or destroy.
20. Tearing of New Testament
Vincent Joy ,   Fort Knox-USA   (07.18.12)
Mr. Regev, if you find this action "deplorable and condemn it outright", what will be done about it?
21. So, if neo-Nazis send cartoons to Mks, be respectful?
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (07.18.12)
All of you who are SO liberal and sophisticated -- who will tell Jews where to draw the line? I agree that Christians-- people -- should be treated with respect, but their NT and religion is a different matter. In the NT, Jzeus declares (Luke 19.27): "But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay [them] before me." Ripping it up was counter-productive. Citing this passage as reason to demand an apology from the missionary group would have been far more appropriate. To do that, Jews must become educated about what the NT says, not dedicated to living in the dark and fearing it like it issues a magically dangerous aura. There is no such thing as a Jew genuinely knowledgeable in the NT who believes it or fears it. Only the ignorant fear the NT of the post-135 CE Hellenist Romans. Educated Jews fear ha-Sheim and follow His Torah.
22. As an Israeli & a Jew
Tom ,   Israel   (07.18.12)
I am appalled by this disgusting behaviour from one of our ministers. The people of the book do not tear up books! especially one that has G-d’s name in it! Jesus was a Jew – We share the same G-d, and even if we didn’t… there is no reason to desecrate a religious book of another religion. WHAT WAS HE THINKING! We are so much better than this kind of revolting behaviour.
23. IDIOT!
max ,   EU/IL   (07.18.12)
24. Apologise you moron
Zionist forever   (07.18.12)
Israel gets more political & financial support from Amercas Christians alone than it does from all the Jews in the world combined. We shoud also be allies against mutual enemies like radical Islam. Time for an apology from him, and his party.
25. Who cares?
jj   (07.18.12)
I mean I am against the destruction of books as a general principle, but its just a text. just like the torah and koran. it doesn't matter if it or them are torn up. theyre books, by men, for men. deal with it.
26. Abominable behavior indeed
Carl ,   USA   (07.18.12)
This minister should be ashamed of destroying the holy book of billions of people around the world, including many Israeli citizens. He could have just handed it to a Christian MK or a church where it belongs. Imagine the outrage if someone destroyed a chumash or Torah in such a manner!
27. Christians must stop imposing their religion on others.
enough bloodshed   (07.18.12)
They have murdured and tortured enough jews for the last 2000 years. now they are imposing their religion in other ways. there are 2000 years of reason why Christianity is a hateful religion and only brings bloodshed and harm to the world. Why would Jews want to follow such religions like Islam and Christianity that have caused so much bloodshed and continue to do so even today?
28. Tasteless and stupid but his right too
ahg ,   Cherry Hill, NJ, USA   (07.18.12)
It's completely tasteless and utterly stupid but, for better or worse, taste and intelligence aren't requirements for leaders in a democracy. The real sad part is that his constituency will probably see no problem with his act.
29. It is written...
jody ,   tulsa , oklahoma   (07.18.12)
All he has done is show his disdain for G-ds word period.... Moses told us that there would be one to come that was greater than him and that those who didn't listen to Him where in a heap of trouble...that one was Jesus. And Jesus repeatedly pointed us back to the old testament when He said...'you have heard it said'...and "it is written" and "have you not read"
30. CHRISTIANS & JEWS PART III
Jewish Warrior ,   EveryWhere   (07.18.12)
Now, why would Jesus begin his sermon by teaching from God's (Old Testament) Law, and then pause in the middle of his sermon to say that none of the Old Testament law would pass away, and then a few minutes later, tell everybody how the Old Testament laws have passed away, and are replaced with new laws? The answer is, he wouldn't, and he didn't. Therefore, Jesus was telling his audience, "No matter what you hear from my mouth, do not interpret what I am saying as meaning the written law of God is passing away. Because I am not replacing God's Law!" Remember this. Jesus knew that there would be people who would be mis-interpreting his teachings as saying he was abolishing God's Law, or that some parts of it were no longer binding, or were being changed, but Jesus warned his listeners that this would be a false interpretation. Remember the context. In Matthew 5, verses 17-18, Jesus said he was not changing the Old Testament law, and in verse 19 He stresses to keep God's Commandments, and in verse 20 He accuses the scribes and Pharisees of being self righteous. Now, verses 21 through 48 will be addressed, because many people believe Jesus was changing the Old Testament written laws in these passages! Let us look at them briefly. Matthew 5:21-22, "Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill…But I say unto you…" Matthew 5:27-28, "Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you…" Matthew 5:31-32, "It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement: But I say unto you…" Matthew 5:33-34, "Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: But I say unto you…" Matthew 5:38-39, "Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you…" Matthew 5:43-44, "Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you…" Was Jesus teaching something new? God's law says, “Thou shalt love thy neighbour” (Leviticus 19:18), but God's law does not say, “hate thine enemy.” The Pharisees were taking God's Law out of context, and added to it, and changed it to mean that we are to hate our enemies, as if the one were a legitimate inference from the other. This is what the people heard from man, but it is not what they read in scripture. However, when Jesus taught we are to love our enemy, Jesus was quoting from the Old Testament (Exodus 23:4-5, Deuteronomy 23:7, Proverbs 24:17-18, Proverbs 25:21-22). He taught nothing new! Another example is when Jesus said: Matthew 5:21-22, "Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill…But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment:"
