"make peace with your neighbours and learn to respect the Arabs in your country." 1. Israeli arabs vote and are represented in the knesset. They go to the same hospitals as Jews and are treated by the same arab and Jewish doctors. An Israeli arab sits on the Supreme Court. 2. All this while Hamas, Hezbollah say [loudly] that their goal is to kill all the Jews and destroy Israel. They teach their children that they should kill Jews. 3. Most Israeli arabs would prefer to remain in Israel rather than live in any "Palestine". 4. Who should learn respect? Who should make peace? Hint: it ain't the Jews. 5. You need to keep up with reality.

Salomon, I do agree with you. Israel is a decent and humanistic State. Of course, She must defend her people and her territory against awful and hateful enemies. I am sure that She will go on acting firmly, but never giving up from those basic principles. We, true Christian Democrats, will be always at your side. Warm Salutes.

Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (07.20.12)
When people haven't a clue they start mentioning nonsense - you qualify. The Provisional IRA never announced that they policy was to murder every single British citizen. But that is exactly what the Arabs have stated. So you compare cherries to watermelons. Both are fruits but that's about where it ends. The Arabs have stated that they will never compromise and the best we can expect is that if we beg really hard and roll over for them, they might not shoot at us for a couple of years. Stop with the stupid comparisons you have no idea what it's like here.
39. SOME HISTORY ANYONE?
David ,   New York, NY   (07.20.12)
One of Ynet's most pointless editorials EVER. (1) If Haber were just a tad informed on the subject of Israeli military history and doctrine, he would know that it was a mere SIXTY YEARS AGO when Moshe Dayan stated that while Israel can never prevent every single terrorist act, she can exact a high price for those who shed Israeli blood. That was the answer then and it is the answer now. (2)"Until we find a way to live in the Arab world." The Arab world has never found a way to live among themselves OR their neighbors.. A prominent historian, (Samuel Huntington) famously observed, "Islam has bloody borders." Rather than editorial writing, gardening or collecting butterflies would prove more productive than this kind of stuff.

You are right. No-one knows what it is really like to live in another country, unless they have done so. I am not belittling the constant threats to Israeli citizens, both internal and external. But none of us can assume we know the tragedies experienced by the other. Once we start down the road of 'my pain is worse than your pain' we are lost. All our families have been touched by the Holocaust, some more severely than others. I personally know someone who lost a parent in the July 2007 bombings in London (and was mildly caught up in the aftermath myself). When you say that 'the Arabs' want to murder every single Israeli citizen you know this is false but it is a piece of rhetoric which supports your argument. If body count since 1948 was the measure of who wanted to kill whom then you could argue the opposite. But that would also be patently absurd. It is time to abandon this vicious cycle of death and destruction and, since Israel is an established state and Palestine is not (and I guess you probably hope never will be), then the former maybe has the responsibility to make a real push for peace and not speak with the forked tongues that come all too easily to so many Israeli administrations.
42. deterence
Israeli   (07.20.12)
Alas Israel has been a paper tiger ever since Oslo infected the brain. Israel has enormous power and capability just lacking the will to use it. They are more concerned about the periphery lives of the enemy. Time Israel unsheathed the Sword of Gideon and strike those higher up the food-chain. If they know for a fact they and or their families wont be exempted, they will think twice. Its always a question of price, how much is the enemy willing to pay. Figure that out then pay them ten times that amount and make it hurt really hurt. Only then when plotting against Israel and Jews will they have to factor in the personal price they have to pay individually. It may simply be to much and to costly for them. because the price of Jewish blood just went up. But as of present we all know how cheap Israel has let the price of Jewish blood go. Medinat Chelm run by Chelmniks.

Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (07.21.12)
"When you say that 'the Arabs' want to murder every single Israeli citizen you know this is false but it is a piece of rhetoric which supports your argument." Rhetoric you claim - nay simple fact that they proclaim it daily and have even incorporated it into their Charters. From Morocco to Indonesia proclaim that they are united on one and one fact alone. That is the genocide of Jews and their ethnic cleansing from our homeland. The only one being absurd is your proclamation it is rhetoric. As for the forked tongue - try looking in a mirror

OK. Let's take Morocco: cite one single current item of evidence stating its inhabitants want to murder all Jews. If you can, I will begin to take you seriously.
49. #48 okay let's take Morocco
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (07.21.12)
June 1948 - Arab rioting murders 44 Jews in Djerada & Oujda. Over a quarter of a million Jews were ethnically cleansed from Morocco after the creation of Israel. The Moroccan government even sent 5,000 troops to aid Egypt in the genocide of Israel. The Groupe Islamique Combattant Marocain - which committed with Madrid train bombings is supported by many within Morocco - their leadership is now located in London. Tell me why do terrorist leaders find London so attractive? Now for something far more current. Pew survey, May 2003, reported in International Herald Tribune, June 3, 2003 - The majority in Morocco, Jordan, the Palestinian Authority, Kuwait, Lebanon, Indonesia and Pakistan want to end the state of Israel. A Year After Iraq War - survey, March 16, 2004 - The majority in Morocco support suicide bombing of Jews. You think because England has suffered one little terrorist attack that you have a clue as to what it is like. For the last 20 years we would like to just have one terrorist attack a day - that would be novel. Until your cities are being shelled on a daily basis and that you have to protect your children from suicide bombers just so they can go to school - you will never understand.

With respect, you did not cite evidence that the Moroccans want to murder Jews. I can cite any number of events, surveys, etc . to show that all sorts of people are constantly threatened, suffer bombings, etc.etc. What is it with the quest for constant victimhood? It doesn't make us powerful, on the contrary, it diminishes us. Comparisons are odious, but if you want to play that game, would you rather be a Jew in Israel today or a Muslim in Bosnia in the early 1990s? What's more, I have met Muslims from Arab countries (including Morocco) and elsewhere who have expressed a high regard for Israel and Jewish people - and in the presence of Israelis! That does not prove that there are not Arabs who want to eliminate Israel or who hate Jews but neither does it justify your crass generalisations and out and out prejudice.
52. #41 bertram - read my post #32 and...
solomon ,   bklyn   (07.21.12)
1. Rhetoric? What rhetoric?! The arabs state it openly and plainly every day. Do you think Hamas and Hezbollah are rhetoric? Do you think the murder of Jews, beginning way before 1948, is rhetoric? The first major pogroms in that area were in the 1920’s, way before an independent Israel was even thought of. I suggest you look up the word ‘rhetoric’ in a dictionary. 2. You ignore the dynamic on the ground. The arabs started it (yes, this is important) and keep it going. Hamas and Hezbollah declare cease fires and then immediately break them. Hence the Israeli definition of a cease fire: "We cease, they fire." 3. The arabs avoid peace talks and have bolted anytime an agreement seemed close. They are now attempting an end run through the UN. 4. There are arabs living in Israel. The PA declares that any state they may have will be judenrein. And Hamas states that their “Palestine” is to begin at the Mediterranean. (This is not rhetoric.) 5. I did not expect such a blatant disregard of facts, of reality, from you. I think you need to read more history. And current events as well.

Bertram ,   London,UK   (07.21.12)
Oh, I see what you mean. The Arabs = Hamas + Hezbollah + the PA. A bit like: the Israelis = the Israeli government, or: the Europeans = the EU. Read #51.
54. #51 I did exactly that
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (07.22.12)
A Year After Iraq War - survey, March 16, 2004 - The majority in Morocco support suicide bombing of Jews. (note that is Jews not Israelis). If a majority of the population SUPPORTS suicide bombings it means they want to KILL us. Read the damn survey - it's not hard to find especially with the date As for victimhood - we DEMAND to be left alone. We have no desire to be anybody's victim. Leave us alone or we will kill you. Do you understand that? If a majority states something then it is not a crass generalization - it is the desire of the majority, or don't you understand facts at all? I do not care that a minority of Moroccans profess a high regard - they are just that the minority not the majority and the majority of Muslims want to kill us and that is in every single Muslim country. The majority needs to change.

"Despite their current small numbers, Jews continue to play a notable role in Morocco; the King retains a Jewish senior adviser, André Azoulay; they are well represented in business and even a small number in politics and culture; and Jewish schools and synagogues receive government subsidies. " Wikipedia 2012 I f this is true I see what you mean. It certainly reflects a deep hatred for Jews in Morocco.

You are gooing to have to help me out on this. Can you specify the survey to which you refer? On the assumption that it might be the Pew Research survey, let's be careful. So much of the so-called debate concerning Muslims, Arabs, Jews and Israel is beset by interpretations of reports of surveys of opinions. First of all, as we all know there are lies, damned lies and statistics. Secondly, and more importantly for what you are saying, the Pew survey indicated a 92% level for negatve attitudes towards Jews. OK - this is not good, but it must be placed within a context of negative attitudes towards those affiliated to all non-Muslim religions (you might wish to conduct a survey, yourself, among Jews in Israel and elsewhere regarding their own attitudes towards Islam, Catholicism, etc.). Significantly, I could find nothing to suggest that fhe majority of Moroccans wanted to kill Jews. So, please enlighten me.

solomon ,   bklyn   (07.22.12)
#53- "the Israelis = the Israeli government" LOL You haven't been reading very much, have you? Israelis, being in a democracy, have a lot of disagreement with the government. They disagree on all things. But they agree on not killing arabs for killing's sake, unlike Arabs=Hamas+Hezbollah+PA. As long as these Arabs want to kill all the Jews, it matters little what few arabs do not wish to do so. Closing your eyes to reality does not change it. #56- In my opinion, you are correct about Morocco. When I visited and asked directions to Jewish cemeteries, etc, the people were very helpful. There are also a lot of Berbers in Morocco who joined the Jews in fighting the Moslem conquest (when the arabs first came to the area, in the late 1600's AD.) However the attitude of many Jews to Christians and Moslems is a result of their pogroms, murder, hatred against and of the Jews. Again you ignore cause and effect and thereby 'confuse' effect with the original cause. I am quickly learning to expect such a blatant disregard of facts, of reality, from you. But closing your eyes to reality does not change it.

In agreeing with some of what I have said you highlight my very simple point. If you start to talk about "the Arabs" it is no different from others talking about "the Jews". It then becomes mutual abuse and contributes nothing of significance except letting off hot air.
59. #56 for the third time
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (07.22.12)
The name of the survey by the Pew Research Center is called: A Year After Iraq War - survey, March 16, 2004 Put that in a search engine and you will find it in about 1/10th second. Only 92% of people surveyed from Morocco profess a dislike for Jews. 74% support suicide bombings against Jews. Pretty telling really. Oh and by the way it is factual unlike your claims. Polling is a science.
60. #58 bertram
solomon ,   bklyn   (07.23.12)
But you miss my very simple point: you are wrong in that you compare apples and oranges. Yes Jews talk about the "arabs" and yes arabs talk about the "Jews". But you neglect to listen to what they are saying. The arabs are saying lets kill all the Jews. They have been saying this from the get go. The Jews are saying lets push out all the arabs who want to kill us. Many Jews want to get rid of Israeli arabs, most don't. These are the arabs with whom Israelis can and do dialogue. The other arabs don't want to have anything to do with it. It is not "mutual abuse:" because of the arabs desire to kill all Jews, while arabs and Jews are treated in Israeli hospitals by the same arab and Jewish doctors, etc. I don't expect you to understand the difference however, as you don't want to. Instead to you all this becomes simplistic. But it is a simplistic that ignores reality and history. It wasn't the Jews that tried to expel the Jews with pogroms in the 1920's. It was the other way 'round. Closing your eyes to reality doesn't change it.
