In the first place, as an American/Israeli dual citizen.....I see no loyalty problems. All my uncles and cousins served proudly in the US Military during WW2 and Vietnam. Contrary to what most knuckleheads like you believe, throughout the history of the US...Jews served in every war since the American Revolution. Oddly enough...there were more Jewish Officers in the Confederate Army than in the Union...and some unfortunately committed fratricide during that most tragic of conflicts. Be that as it may....I have two sons..and if they choose to serve in the IDF...I see it as the same as serving for the US...Israel is the bastion of Western/US values in the Middle East....American Jews love their country and love Israel too. There is no conflict of interest!!!

X ,   Somewhere   (07.23.12)
The migration of disgruntled few Jews to Israel is because of the economy, jobs, in the US
36. They are Leaving the GOOD life in USA? LOL
Netanya ,   Netanya   (07.23.12)
What crap. If USA was a strong nation with a great economy, there would not be Americans coming, maybe one or two. These Americans have nothing to do now, so they decide to come, at least they will get some money here Nefesh to Nefesh also is a joke. When the high tech in Israel fell, I saw many Israeli Americans who had made aliyah and spent 10 yrs+ here, return to USA. I wrote to Nefesh to Nefesh to help them. They had come and not gotten any help, learned Hebrew, started companies, etc etc. Did Nefesh to Nefesh help even one of them? NOOOOOOOOO
37. Jews have been coming to Israel while others have been
Al   (07.23.12)
leaving since day 1. My late dad left Israel in 1952 and today my kids who were born in Canada live in Israel. Go figure. Here are the numbers..inspite of the fact that Israel doesnt have leadership worth a damn and the fact that some Israelis would like to leave Israel, the Jewish population keeps on growing in Israel while in America its shrinking. And after all the BS about prices, blah blah blah blah, I dont see too many Israelis running around naked, homeless and hungry. In fact I noticed quite a lot of them to be rather fat. They are not poor as church mice or they wouldnt be running around the world looking for adventure. As for the kids coming to Israel to serve in the IDF..I wish you kids well. I know what your parents are going through. They dont sleep well at nite worrying about you. Do them a favour, give em a shout. It will make their day.
38. 35 That s not true! How dare you.

39. Mixed Welcome
Aaron   (07.23.12)
The media praises these kids who all want to be in top IDF units. Many of these kids are also misguided into thinking since they are from America they will be treated better and have more opportunity in the army than an israeli. Unfortunately for them Israelis also vie for these positions and many times will make it into units over ill prepared olim teens. Volunteers many times have criminal records and drug problems that they are running from. While the army asks the volunteer to disclose this information they don't perform a full background search on everyone. they've made a tough decision most likely misguided by different organizations and groups who recruit to aliyah only for numbers not for productive citizens. Their intentions are all sincere but even with the support they receive they will have a very difficult time.

Keep posting your hateful postings and more and more Jewish kids will volunteer for the IDF. Please keep doing your part, Split!
41. Dual Citizens
Ronnie ,   Israel   (07.24.12)
First of all, a person can be a dual citizen and love both countries. Just the same as one can love his or her mother and father at the same time, even if they disagree and you might side with one or the other. I was born a third generation American, and served in the Korean War in the 1950's. After arriving in Israel 44 years ago, I served in the IDF as a reservist and took part in 3 wars. My three children also served in the IDF, as well as (so far) three grandchildren. And we are not only proud Israelis, but also all of us are proud to be American citizens. My family and I would never willingly do any harm to either one of our countries. And one talkbacker made a mistake about the numbers of Jews serving in the United States military. A check with Wikipedia says there are 10,000 at the moment.
42. Congrats to the PR staff of Nefesh l'Nefesh...
(07.24.12)
Clearly they took to heart the real and true commentary from their last PR effort when they were going on about how these Americans can no longer get money for school in Israel. Now they have wisely turned around and are going to teach all of us how to be good and proper Israelis! Really Nefesh l' Nefesh get over your fine selves!
43. #1, #6, #16, As you all say it, there are many reasons.
Michael ,   California, USA   (07.24.12)
But I think the main reason is cultural, deriving from personal history and from the love for Hebrew language. Commentator #1, Bluegrass Picker, sees from Afula the reality much better than all the others. From my observations in the U.S. Jewish education is nonsense (except for teaching Hebrew), bringing many more Jews to remain outside of Israel than wanting to immigrate. Also, Jewish education brings many young Jews to want marry outside the faith. Let's face it, Israel is a target for immigration to those who are Israelis in their hearts, not necessarily Jewish. By the way, why is a story about 350 immigrants from a country of 6 million (by official count) Jews of any relevance?
44. Stay there!
Dave ,   USA   (07.24.12)
While Americans are fighting in Afghanistan these clowns run off to join a third rate army! Let them stay in Israel and fight ten year olds throwing rocks.
45. I am one of these olim
TD ,   California   (07.24.12)
And first of all i would like to say to those who comment with "They will go back after a year or two".... So? Maybe we will go back, but we have a sense of zionism which bring us to want to serve israel. and @10, some like myself choose not to serve in US army because we dont feel a connection to the army, but my connection to israel is stronger than any i have ever felt. Lastly thanks to everyone who support incoming lone soldiers such as myself, its a large choice but one we all made eagerly and is made easier by those that support us.
46. Israel here I come
Naftali ,   Seattle,WA   (07.24.12)
One day I will come to Israel and make aliyah and give my self to Israel and most importantly the Almighty Ruler of the Universe.

HMR ,   tel aviv, Israel   (07.24.12)
every article I read is I only about the garinim from the US. I think it's important to mention that there I a Garin with zionists from all over Europe... Italy, UK, Germany, France and more. give them some credit too
48. Jews in the American military
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Gush Etzion   (07.24.12)
"Split's" usual anti-Jewish comments are based on either faulty "research" or no research at all. See the article in the Tuesday 24 July issue of The Algemeiner entitled "Jews in the Military": In WWII, the American military as made up of 4.23% of Jewish soldiers although the Jewish population of the USA was only 3.3% of the whole. This clearly establishes that Jewish soldiers were over, not under, represented. One must take into account, of course, that religious census was not mandatory and it was concluded that 30-40% of Jewish Americans refused to state their religion for (reasonable) fear that their respective status would be affected. "Split" gives no evidence for his assertions and we must conclude that he enjoys promoting the old shibboleth that Jews evade their duty to the country. Why does Ynet continue to allow his trash to appear on this website?
49. 48 ,...
split ,   US   (07.24.12)
Over 300 US Jews in IDF ,... The United States Marine Corps includes just under 203,000 active duty Marines (as of October 2010) that means according to the article Jewish Journal article 'The (Very) Few, the Proud' there're almost twice as much an American Jews in IDF than in US Marines. Google "The (Very) Few, the Proud" and read. After you done google "Striving for "truly British" armed forces", and read. More crap and more excuses ,... "30-40% of Jewish Americans refused to state their religion for (reasonable) fear that their respective status would be affected" Go to wiki to correct your numbers. BTW I wasn't talking about WWII ,...

Why do you have such a one track mind?
51. yes Jews
Gal   (07.28.12)
and many of them are American, Canadian, or from many other different places. As someone who was in Garin Tzabar, I know of many people who have no family here, and even some that their first time coming to Israel was to join the army - so show some respect!
52. @ 36 You are crazy...
Sheik rattle & roll ,   usa   (10.21.12)
American soldiers earn more money than your average citizen. American special forces such as the Navy seals earn almost $8,000.00 a month which is probably more than your top generals. When American 21 year old kids start coming to Israel every holiday season to work in your malls then talk to me. It is obvious these American kids have some loyalty to the State of Israel because they can earn much more money in the US military than most Israeli's earn and there cost of living is almost half with your 100 percent taxes.
53. rejection of new olim
marc ,   san francisco, ca   (12.12.12)
what these new olim do not realize is that the IDF changes their requirements for these special forces units willy nilly. some years they are allowed into special forces. others years they are not no matter how good they are as people, shooting, their hebrew, etc. as stated by others here, there are a variety of subjective views some of which affects the commanding officers to decide that for this and that draft there will be no new olim in the "specialized units". i think golani, nachal and netzach yehudah are some of the SF units generally open to new olim. unlike duvdevan. but i still have my rejection for YOM SAYAROT because i was a new immigrant!
