IDf knows well that they can't accomplish anything on their own against Iran. Shia Iran is (will be) also an enemy of Sunni bloc. Final confrontation will be between blocs led by Turkey and Israel and her allies (Greece, Cyprus,etc) about the control of the vast natural sources in the Estearn Mediterranean Sea. A gradually weakened Iran is also what the Sunni-bloc might want to see, but it is not that easy. Turkey and Israel has a lot to lose, but Iran does not. Iran would not care about the huge casualties, their economy defined in "Western context". Tens of thousands of casualties won't mean much to Iranian regime whereas Turkey and Israel would go back tens of years. Moreover, even the US would not march to Tehran, no US government can risk that much causalty.
