1. No to Jaabari plan
Wade ,   NYC USA   (07.25.12)
because it reduces Jews to a minority in their own land. He can suggest that Arabs will remain a non-voting silent majority, but how long can that last?
2. Of course settlers want citizenship without right to vote!
Dovid ,   Los Angeles   (07.25.12)
So a local sheikh with his own militia comes up with this solution - citizenship without the right to vote for Palestinians as a one-state solution, with only "de facto" recognition that "the Jews control the land." And this settler likes it. What a complete fool. Lured into the notion with the promise of keeping the West Bank and at the same time "neutralizing the demographic threat." And how long, Mr. "Ha-Ivri," do you think that the Palestinians will be content to live under the system of Apartheid you have described?
3. I new when I scaned the article stupid was coming!
Bruce ,   Tel Aviv   (07.25.12)
Talk about aparthade, Ha ivri wants Israel to copy the the model for all the dictators in the Arab world....nyet...
4. that'll go over real well...
Jeff ,   USA   (07.25.12)
"Everyone would be a citizen but only Jews would be allowed to vote"... good luck with that one.
5. Ha'ivri? Rather Ha'iver... what a lousy idea, all in all!
tom ,   tel aviv   (07.25.12)
6. A Constitutional Monarchy
Adam Neira ,   Paris, France   (07.25.12)
Sheikh Farid Khadar Al Jaabari's initiative is indeed praiseworthy. Hevron is an important part of the Holy Land mix. People need to start seeing the bigger picture and not get stuck in myopic dogma. The correct paradigm for the Holy Land is one of peace, stability, order, benevolence and expansiveness. If all the parties adopt this paradigm the place will attract and reflect blessings. The Palestinians won't kick all the Jews out of Judea and Samaria/The West Bank and the Jews won't kick the Palestinians out of Judea and Samaria/The West Bank. The land will be shared. As I mentioned to David Ha'ivri on his visit to Melbourne last year, there is a divinely mandated plan for the Holy Land. The prophesied command and control structure is actually a monarchy. The core components of the Middle East jigsaw puzzle centred around Jerusalem are : The State of Israel; Judea and Samaria/The West Bank; Gaza; Jordan; Lebanon; Syria; Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The current GDP of these areas is $1.6 Trillion. This can easily grow by more than 5% p.a. from 2013 onwards if stability prevails and a certain command and control structure is heeded. P.S. Interested readers should look up "The Special Status of the Davidic Dynasty" by Rav Mosheh Lichtenstein.
7. it makes a lot of sense to me
mohson   (07.25.12)
jaabari should continue discussions about what to do aboutjordan since part of it belongs to israel. Jaabari sounds reasonable compared to the crud of the PLO and the crud of israel-beilin, ben ami, olmert, livni and pere.
8. @1
Corey ,   Canada   (07.25.12)
100% agreed. Does the author really think that as the Arab/Muslim population continues to outgrow Jewish Israelis, they will continue to be content with no voting rights? The world will scream apartheid (but this time they'll be right), and the Arabs will find a way, either through political pressure or by force) to take over the country. The article states that Jaabari is a "devout Muslim who believes the entire land of Israel is holy to the Muslim people," and he considers those who would sign away any part of [Israel] as "traitors to Islam." It doesn't take a genius to figure out that this one state "solution" of his is yet another insidious plan to destroy Israel. My goodness Mr. Ha'ivri, are you really that naive?
9. Jordan is ""palestine""!!!!!!!! PERIOD!
Father Abe   (07.25.12)
10. It's a good plan
David ,   Modiin, Israel   (07.25.12)
Only people who do not know the demographic and geographic realities of Israel dream of 2-state solution. It's not realistic. Israel will not return to Auschwitz borders and Arabs in Judea and Samaria will not live under occupation forever. Let Gaza join Egypt (or whoever they wish) and give citizenship to the rest of Arabs.
11. Jews need a majority
Avi ,   USA   (07.25.12)
Any talk of one state will always end with the loss of Jewish majority in Israel. What we need is to give Gaza back to Egypt and get it out of the picture and come out with an agreement that divides the west bank with Jordan as the sovereign over the palestinians. As a Jew i believe that the world continues to look for our extinction, the only defense we have from future annihilation is the IDF.
12. I like his ideas but on a localized level
William ,   Israel   (07.25.12)
Great idea in places like Hebron, Jerusalem, Schehem, Jericho. But not as a one-state solution. I agree that this whole mess has its base in the biggest strategic mistake of bringing in the PLO and handing them power. But that's water under the bridge and we live on another tangent than in 1992. So, the only way forward is autonomous areas for "Palestinians", with Israel taking control of the settlements. Work closely with "Palestinians" on all type of projects and levels, and a long-term goal of independence for them OR re-absorption into a neighboring Arab country. I like the idea that both peoples can work successfully together on a basic level - among the average citizen. It has been that way for a long time. It was politicians on both sides, foreign Arabs, and racist terrorists mostly steeped in Muslim Brotherhood ideology (e.g. Hamas, Arafat, Mufti Al-Husseini) which caused the upset.
13. #3 - If that's true re: apartheid
William ,   Israel   (07.25.12)
then why hasn't anyone, especially the Israeli Left, ever levied that accusation against the Arab nations which routinely practice apartheid?
14. Jaabari Plan for Judea and Samaria
William ,   Washington, DC   (07.25.12)
Finally, a realistic and prudent plan for Judea and Samaria.
15. Did Ha'Ivri bother to proofread his text?
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.25.12)
The sheikh appears to be a one-man police force, trial court and judge. He runs his little world like a medieval fiefdom. I do not think that there is room for that primitive and tribal mindset in the State of Israel. If you shake hands with this sheikh, be sure to count your fingers afterwards.
16. What will happen after Jaabary dies, back to usual business?
leo ,   usa   (07.25.12)
17. Mr. Haivri
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim   (07.25.12)
B"H What Mr. Haivri has to figure out, and I'm not saying it is easy for him, is to go by the Sheikh or to go by the Torah? Should he decide to go by the Torah, give me a call and I'll listen.
18. Why doesnt he mention the Jordan option?
Jayjay ,   Israel   (07.25.12)
Because he wants Israel taken over be Arabs. As the article states, he considers all of Israel as Palestine!
19. No to nonsense.
Michael Pielet ,   Israel   (07.25.12)
Pure nonsense. The arabs belong to the arab nation. Arab autonomy yes. Israeli citizenship for Jews only. Arab terrorist state no. No arab army. IDF full security control of Judea and Samaria.
20. jordanian citizenship, israeli residence
jk ,   usa nyc   (07.25.12)
If they leave to Jordan on their own they get compensated.
21. Retarded idea, retarded article
Avi   (07.25.12)
First, the author hails the Imam as a sincere logical person that may herald peace, then reveals he's in fact a fanatic that enforces his word by burning jeeps and taking policemen hostages, and that he's against a peace treaty of any kind other than injecting millions of poor, hostile muslims into the economy. The idea itself is moronic not only for the previously mentioned reason, but also because it would mean Israel would be enforcing an apartheid law which is unacceptable. Moreover it would not neutralize a demographic time bomb, since a) it would not hold for long. Israelis and the international community would not be able to accept the apartheid, and b) lack of voting rights doesn't mean it will remain so. Look at Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Libya. Civil war would come, and the Imam knows it well.
22. The only peace:Arabs in 23 Arab States,Jews in Jewish State
(07.25.12)
23. There is only one Peaceoption !.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (07.25.12)
Even HASHEMs, the GOD of Israel. Arn.Sweden.
24. A desperate idea by a delusional messianist
Yitzhak ,   Israel   (07.25.12)
Ha-Ivri's idea is delusional and self-destructive. It is a desperate idea that will only lead to civil war, and complete isolation of Israel as a pariah state. But, he doesn't care because as far as he is concerned he thinks he will bring the Messiah. But, the rest of us do not have to go along with his messianic delusions that will only lead violence, Israel's isolation and ultimate destruction. We have had too many false messiahs in our history leading to death and destruction. (Bar Kochba, Shabtai Zvi, etc). Enough!
25. Can work only if palestinians get Jordanian citizenship
Yossef   (07.26.12)
but can continue to live and own in Israel, and vote in Amman.
26. David what happened to you?
Yos ,   Jerusalem   (07.26.12)
This is not the David HaIvri we once knew. Ever since you took the job, you tone has changed dramatically. You are becoming more "moderate" by the minute, I do not believe your late Rabbi would approve.
27. A trap for simple minds
Dan   (07.26.12)
Voting isn't the only problem in a 1-state plan. This would give the entire Arab population of the West Bank free access to Israel proper, with rights to settle and work anywhere. Even without the right to vote, their other rights and their numbers would soon see Israel in Arab hands.
28. Recognition of Jewish authority
Husam ,   Jerusalem   (07.26.12)
One very important, overlooked point from commenters, is the fact that the sheik recognizes a "Jewish authority" to rule over Muslims, in peace. . . I don't even think Arabs in Israel went that far.
29. Just a Hudna scheme they'll renounce when strong enough.
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego, USA   (07.26.12)
Anything that treats the conflict as a territorial or citizenship dispute is fraudulent.. The only satisfactory outcome is the Arabs recognizing the right of the Jewish people to The Jewish State of Israel , which the UN demanded of them 65 years ago, and which they have been refusing to do to this day - Sheikh Jaabari included. Theyh want the world to recognize that the "Palestinians" have a right to a state, but they refuse to accept that the Jews have a right to a state. There is no point in talking about land-for-peace without the Arabs accepting. Besides, we see from Egypt's conduct that "total peace for total withdrawal" is a fraud. Jaabari's own conduct with the PLO shows he is just a thug who uses terrorism to get what he wants when things don't go his way.
30. The Jaabari peace option
Sergio Kerbis ,   Rehovot, Israel   (07.26.12)
" Jaabari is calling for citizenship without the right to vote for Knesset. This could be the basis for a one state solution in which the demographic threat has been neutralized." Based on Jaabari's option, Israel would no longer be a democratic state and can rightfully called an Apartheid state. Are we willing to live with this? Not me. Thanks.
