31. 4 years Community Service
Ed Stack   (07.27.12)
Give them a choice of community service or draft. The minimum commitment for community service should be at least 1 year more than the time they would serve in the army.. They can study Torah at night and do community service during the day.
32. #4 equality
Ed Stack   (07.27.12)
This debate is about everyone providing service in exchange for living in the state. You can serve in the army or you can do community service. Failure to do one or the other is a failure to meet the obligations of your country. Failure to serve is being against the Jewish people and anti-Semitic.
33. Will the GOVERNMENT have the cajones to do anything
Moshe ,   T/A Israel   (07.27.12)
This Debate is not about the obstinacy of Yossi or Itzik or Avi this Debate is about whether the Government has the will to do anything?? Nobody will drag any of these men to the Army, the Government should merely cut off their stipend and change their legal status. In the final analysis this will boil down to money,if these lads know that no matter what they will be paid they will continue their life style Our PM has no desire or will or possibly ability to change the status quo,he will as usual talk the talk but he will never walk the walk. Other than put up the VAT made our lives more expensive what has BB done that ads up to a hill of beans The lads in the Yeshivot can rest easy, nothing will change, our PM will ensure that Moshe
34. No IDF service, then no welfare checks, no voting rights
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego, USA   (07.27.12)
Nobody in Israel should be eligible for voting rights if they refuse to serve, or welfare checks if they refuse to work, or university admission at taxpayer expense. Anti-semitism?? What nonsense. These extremist haredim are fake Jews, parasitising everybody else - never in the history of the Jewish people have we had an elite of full-time "Torah scholars" who live off the sweat of others and reject real work. All the great Torah sages throughout history have had jobs, work skills, professions or trades. They did their Torah scholaring when they got off work. These leeches are frauds. Anti-semitism my toochas! It may be true that they are too undisciplined , unreliable and useless to do anything of importance to the national defense in the IDF, but they can certainly be given jobs in the mess hall, digging ditches, janitorial work around bases, fence construction, and washing tanks or something. And maybe since this kind of work is less dangerous, they should serve 5 years at it instead of only 3 years. The minimum age for university acceptance in Israel should be 21, insuring that no one who hasn't entered army service at 18 years is admitted. until the age other Israelis who have finished it.
35. I think a lot of young haredim will like the army.
Susan ,   Kfar Saba   (07.27.12)
Young men like the physical activity. They get out of the classroom and get to run around with weapons. Guys like that.
36. #9 WOW!!!
chareidi chaya ,   Israel   (07.27.12)
"A force must be applied to break, shatter and obliterate the status Que. To turn all Haredim into secular hard working men that contribute to the economy and serve in the army, that respect women and increase Israel's exports.". Kol hakovod for being honest enough to admit that u think you know the TRUTH and that everyone should be like you and that anyone who's not has "an unacceptable way of life " and is "ignorant". Now that we got that out in the open......
37. WOW!!!! again -
Chaya chareidi ,   Israel   (07.27.12)
"These people act as an ILL organism and they refuse to cure themselves! They (with few exceptions)are obsessed with the WRONG idea that their prayers save Israel and that they must be payed for that! That´s wrong and hypocrital because what they say IS NOT JUDAISM in any form ,colour or taste. Judaism is about prayer, study and PRACTICE!". ... And here's another tolerant, liberal minded talkbacker. Can't you come up with a better position than "my way of life is right, yours is wrong"?
38. not all Orthodox think alike
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (07.27.12)
Don't believe that there is ONE Orthodox Opinion - there are many. What the blokes in Meah Shariim think is not the majority opinion even though they SEEM the many, they are not. There are many modern Orthodox, many Litvaks, many different types of Chassidim and even in Meah Shariim many diverse opinions. So do not make the mistake of putting all the eggs in one basket. They are not all the same.
39. no one should force Harabs into the IDF
Golan ,   modiin   (07.27.12)
neither should the state give social welfare to those who do not serve. its a great way to save money and create a sense of responsibility and not entitlement.
40. to Avi #12
chaya chareidi ,   Israel   (07.27.12)
No, they cannot sample tens of thousands but,in all seriousness, YNET specializes in finding the most ridiculous mouthpieces for the chareidi position and each time a chareidi "says" something on YNET they speak so provocatively and the words they use are so cliche that I'm convinced that YNET either makes the whole thing up or "edits" it enough to produce a "troll" article. I'll never forget the last article where some chareidi "said" something like "I don't feel like wasting my life in the army." Tell me YNET didn't feed that to their readership! That is rude and stupid, at best, and I never heard a chareidi person express anything remotely similar. Most don't think of the draft in such technical terms at all- it's an ideological issue. I'm surprised YNET hasn't yet found a chareidi to say "Let the chilonim be killed - why should hareidim be killed?" I'm sure they'll "find someone" to "say" that before the whole thing is over. Peace.
41. No one will drag us into IDF
Shoshieb ,   Migdal, Israel   (07.27.12)
Those that don't serve in the UDF - stop their monthly stipend and NO mortgage...... Why should my children serve and not receive stipends and no help - and this lot get money every month?
42. Haredim - let's see you try to defend yourselves
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (07.27.12)
with your Torah against the Arabs when they come to slaughter you and yours.
43. If they go to idf
Hiî ,   Thailand   (07.27.12)
It would be best news for orthodox Jews. The Lord is preparing them to have full rule of Israel. So they have know how to control it from A-z.
44. #35. Im sure you are right
Tim ,   Brighton   (07.27.12)
In any case if you had a free ride for so long..would you not try to make a fuss to keep the status quo? Once though it is framed in law...and they have no choice - and experience National Service..it will be good for them, good for their families, good for the Haredi Community and good for Israel Meanwhile my biggest dissapointment has been with one or two pompous and extreme voices in the Religious Leadership..hardly any example to the young
45. There are hard times coming for Israel
Big Al ,   Zichron, Israel   (07.27.12)
There is a 50/50 chance that within a few months all of our borders are going to be surrounded by nations ruled by Islamic fundamentalists and we are going to be forced to undergo a major millitary challenge just to survive. Young, decent boys are going to have to put their lives on the line to protect these parasites. And you are surprised that most secular people cannot tolerate your attitude.
46. #37Chaya chareidi
Keren ,   IL-BR   (07.27.12)
"Can't you come up with a better position than "my way of life is right, yours is wrong"?" I am not saying that my way of life is right and yours is wrong, what I am saying is that you can not use (suck)my way of life to live yours. If all the Children of Israel go to Army, your Children must go also to Army. The Children of Israel don´t owe you nothing in order to fight for you while you sit idle. What is good for you is good for them also.In other words, they have the same rights as you and you don´t have more rights then them. This is a basic human principle that if you fail to understand means that you are failing to be Human.
47. Charedi Draft
Sane ,   Manchester England   (07.27.12)
I think all you who are pro-draft should think- Do you want thousands of armed Charedim who only follow the Rabbi's?
48. Torah perversion
Steve   (07.27.12)
The only way the Torah will protect these freeloaders is if it was made of Kevlar and they wrapped themselves in it.
49. And besides,Chaya chareidi....
Keren ,   IL-BR   (07.27.12)
....praying and studying is a mitzvah and a mitzvah ,by definition, does not get payment. If praying and studying for Israel is the right thing to do,so do it, during the time spared to you to do so;if it has a price and ulterior motives, don´t do ,because G-d looks at the intentions of heart and its consequent acts.In other words,if your intentions are selfish and aim at your particular-not G-dly-interests,so will be the consequences of them and what is not pleasant to G-d is not pleasant to Men,as you have seen as a reaction for your acts, by virtually all Israel. Remember:Torah can not be used as a Golden Calf.
50. Why would Rabbis want men without G-d defending them
Josh   (07.27.12)
If the concept is that G-d must be with our armies to win, you would think Rabbis would volunteer "G-d abiding men" to the defense of the nation. Apparently they don't really care about their followers ability to be shielded from enemies and live in peace.. Never let it be said a follower would see this and understand the peril false leaders can cause.
51. The rabbi's are making their men into women.
Bad Ased Jew ,   United States   (07.27.12)
Jews fight to live. Any man who wont fight can be escorted to the nearest exit from Israel. Damn girlie dummies. We all pray, many study the Torah and we know all the mighty men of Israel were fighters not whimps who use a cheap excuse to avoid service to the nation of Israel.
52. Draft or jail
Haim ,   TA   (07.27.12)
Funny we never had a choice. We faced draft of jail , why should the harideem be any different, is our blood less valuable then theirs ? Enough of this religious mumbo jumbo , draft the lot of them or jail them its as simple as that. Those that refuse are more than welcome to leave the country, where they would go that offers them a free life style without working a day in their holy lives i have no idea? maybe they should try Iran
53. Tent of Meeting
Adam Neira ,   Paris, France   (07.27.12)
There is a way forward on this issue. Certain Rabbis and other "leaders" of the Jews in Israel and the Diaspora must sit down, Tent of Meeting style, with some people and discuss some issues in a calm and respectful manner. The Tal Law issue is connected to many other issues in the Jewish and Wider World.
54. No one will drag us into IDF
Ralph ,   rishon le zion   (07.27.12)
I hope that they are the same people who won't drag you into the Bituach Leumi to claim money that you feel that you are entitled to receive through your refusal to serve in the army.
55. Haredim, don`t let others die for you
Nora Tel Aviv   (07.27.12)
Remember the two- and -a -half tribes east of the Jordan river? They too prayed at their altar and asked not to fight until they were ordered to become the first to fight for Eretz Israel. Haredim, get up and join the army, anyway you can . Don`t let others fight for you. Ask yourselves, if an Israeli soldier dies trying to protect you, how would you feel before G-d ?
56. 'No one will drag us into IDF'
split ,   US   (07.27.12)
Or make them work. This people are born schnorrers and that was the primary reason for their expulsions from every place they managed to establish themselves,...
57. Ehai of Kfar Saba
leon ,   Grand Rapids US   (07.27.12)
I just read your post : Amen v'Amen
58. # 10 ,...
split ,   US   (07.27.12)
"This has been revered throughout the generations; only in the State of Israel it is not appreciated." ,... That's B.S. There's a reason why they were chased away or face pogroms. You're stuck with them, they got you by the balls and they know it,...
59. 9 - you don't get it ,...
split ,   US   (07.27.12)
If you not one of them you're nothing more than a donkey created to serve them. There's a message in Ovadia Yosef's statement in regard to servants ,...
60. dont enlist them in the army
Ruth ,   Israel , Tel Aviv   (07.27.12)
Instead give them compulsory service in hospitals. At least let them help with the burden, and not feed off of the country like parasites.
