following day. After all she was gentile.
2. Bad PR
Daniel ,   Tel Aviv   (07.27.12)
Why couldn't they open her luggage and look inside? Clearly people fly safely from Dublin airport so there must be some kind of screening. Was she the only non-Jew coming from Dublin? This is all very suspect.
3. Have another beer Shamus ...
GZLives   (07.27.12)
4. @1She would not be the first Irish woman sent as a human bom
PETER SM ,   MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA   (07.27.12)
on an Israeli plane. One of your beloved Arabs got an Irish girl pregnant then sent her carrying his baby on El Al. Fortunately the high standard of security stop a terror disaster, by a babby killer. When are you going to provide proper security facilities in Dublin, instead of whinning. ? If you actually read the article, you would see the next day has nothing to do with it. Its your inadequate facilities. How is your apartheid wall? Any race riots in front of the Oconnel st post office?
5. come to israel
Iדרשקךן   (07.27.12)
We love you :)
6. To: No. 1
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.27.12)
Your ignorance is profound. It has nothing to do with religion. Tens of thousands of Christian pilgrims descend upon Israel like locusts during Christmas and Easter. Bags have been known to explode in cargo holds. Why didn't she simply agree to allow her luggage to be searched, and to have an explosives-detecting canine sniff her luggage? Perhaps her name turned up on a suspect list. Evidently she was the only one singled out for this treatment. Finally, I note that an offer to send her luggage along the following day was made, contrary to your assertion. I find Israel's airline security to be far more credible than the claims of an Irish woman with suspect ties -- she would not have been singled out otherwise.
7. There has to be more to the story
Serge ,   Montreal, Canada   (07.27.12)
... so why not find out what it is, Yediot?
8. Let's be clear and read about it
Ali   (07.27.12)
You don't sacrifice your luggage a day for the secure feeling of others? Would you forgive yourself if security gets more open after this incident and an terrorist act happens in result? Don't you say to yourself that innocent people died because of my luggage? It's not about Israel, It's about the whole world.
9. nonsense nothing to do with being a gentile
Yisraeli   (07.27.12)
rather stupidity and 'rosh katan' no one wanting to take responsibility over matters of security thereby leaving it to be followed by the letter.
10. The bad P.R. that will be engendered
Alistair S. ,   Sydney, Australia   (07.27.12)
would be mitigated by the cost of a new ticket, round trip, paid for by the Israeli gov't. They should welcome her back to show that her glitch was due to security, nothing more. If she is the 'girlfriend' for real, nothing, not even this will effect the relationship; if not, well then G-d works in mysterious ways, does G-d not? The soldier should then be thankful.
11. Mountain out of a mole hill
Tarbouche ,   eilat   (07.27.12)
She could have flown to Manchester of London where they have screeners
12. If the bags couln't be screned why couldn't they be cheked
Ari ,   Jerusalem   (07.27.12)
manually the whole thing is bizarre. And yes some Israelies give a shit about PR. They can be Bitahon but still there are ways to handles things. This woman has become anti Israeli there was no need for that Why could they not at least her personal baggage be checked manually by the security people. Why her phone? Either they were warned in advance of something or maybe the womans behavior was not completaly ok Anyway this is Bizarre I say it again
13. Why only her? How did they screen everyone
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NYC   (07.27.12)
Something does not add up. How did they screen the rest of the flights luggage?
14. Obviously she loves her stuff more than the boyfriend
Yonatan ,   Los Angeles   (07.27.12)
15. COuld the luggage have been searched?
Bob K ,   Orlando USA   (07.27.12)
It used to be that luggage was searched but maybe now the suitcase itself could be the 'bomb'. The technology has changed. What happens with other tourists?
16. Ireland
Arturo   (07.27.12)
Can't be too careful. Especially since Ireland is not Israel friendly. Her bags would have arrived at the same time she did. As long as there wasn't anything dangerous in them.
17. Does anyone remember
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (07.27.12)
The other Irish lass who was given a bomb to take aboard a plane, by her boyfriend.
18. Lod security thought I might have a bomb in my toothbrush
Scott ,   USA   (07.27.12)
I was a guest of the ministry of tourism, w well known newspaper editor, yet for some reason, my plastic, completely transparent toothbrush became a source of suspicion. In the end, no bomb was found in my toothbrush, and I made my flight. Nobody ever said a thing, just that it was "for the security of Israel." A great way to make friends.
19. free trip and luggage sent by way of london
limpia ,   nyc ny   (07.27.12)
they should offer a free trip and send the luggage via london where it is screened. It would be good PR.Or she should be given a flight to london and then, to israel.
20. Oh please
Gav ,   USA   (07.27.12)
I was just in Israel two weeks ago, and Jewish (kippah wearing) and got stopped three different times by security! It's not because she wasn't Jewish it's because Israel needs a lot of security.
21. israeli security here is not to be blamed
(07.27.12)
any european airport, especially in england or dublin should have, must have the proper screening tools and machines and x-rays when handling connecting flights and pasangers of first flights. without these machines, it was the dublin airport that should apologize to this nice lady, not the israeli security men.
22. #1 you are a racist moron
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (07.27.12)
If your backward two bit country had any technology this would not have been an issue.
23. I agree with need to screen her bag
Rose Robbins ,   New York City, USA   (07.27.12)
It could easily have been a set up. No exceptions must be made. For her to get her bag one day late is not such a big deal. If this is too much for her then she is not ready for Israel and reality.
24. Big deal...
Rina ,   Tel Aviv   (07.27.12)
25. It wasn't possible to screen her luggage...
(07.27.12)
Why? Just open the suitcase and look inside if there are any technical problems, or can't they distinguish between lingerie and a bomb?
26. So much for love then !
DT ,   TA Israel   (07.27.12)
27. and the rest of the passengers on the flight ?
Stu the non jew   (07.27.12)
security is security, you dont like it tough. So you get your stuff the next day but at least the plane arrives safely
28. and the reason they didn't just ask her to open the bag....
(07.27.12)
herself was.....? In other words there is something very odd about this story.
29. I Remember Another Irish Suitcase
Marcohoe ,   San Francisco, USA   (07.27.12)
It is of course a very different story, but many of us remember the case of the Palestinian who got an Irish girl pregnant and then gave her a suitcase with a bomb to fly to Israel.
30. Shameless Shamus
Howard ,   Seattle USA   (07.27.12)
I recently traveled to Israel and my luggage was held up for security reasons by EL AL in LA but was promptly delivered to our hotel the following day.It did not dampen our enthusiasim for Israel and we had an incredible time visitng the country.I would rather that my luggage be delayed and we arrive safly then the alternative,Wake up Shamus! If you recall there was a Palestinian terrorist several years ago who used his pregnant Irish girlfrind to try and carry a bomb on to an EL AL plane.
