61. #32... very very important to ask this
(07.27.12)
some years back after 9/11 the ioc decided to commemorate with a one minute of silence the 3,000 innocent civilians murdered by TERRORISTS, ARAB MUSLIM TERRORISTS IN AL QAIDA. this murder of 3,000 innocents, according to al qaida and all celebrating arabs (as seen on videos all over the middle east) was ALSO FOR POLITICAL REASONS....THE HATE FOR THE USA AND IT'S POLICIES IN THAT REGION. this one minute silence commemoration in the 3,000's honor was done during the olympic opening some years back and those 3,000 innocents have had zero to do with the olympics and were not even murdered on olympic's grounds. the murder of 11 israeli athletes happened on olympic's grounds in the olympic village. as you say, for political reasons and as you claim, "israeli athletes were murdered for political reasons" would you agree that 3,000 americans were also murdered for political reasons? YES! ABSOLUTELY. so, why would you deny one minute of silence for the 11 israelis while not minding the same silence for 3,000 americans? both these citizens were murdered for political reasons. so, considering that we both agree that both were murdered for political rwason, do explain, why you think the israelis murdered do not deserve one minute of silence???
62. Arab racists cry "racism"
Maria ,   London, UK   (07.27.12)
Arab racists cry "racism" The 11 Jews were killed by Arabs because they were Jews... the racist Arabs were aided by Nazis, as Der Spiegel reported lately. Ever since the Mufti called to kill ALL Jews in the 1920s, and his anti-Jewish bigotry genocidal campaign is continued by the granbdchildren of Arab immigrants who lie about their FOREIGN roots. Since the 1960s' they go by the name "palestinians" - for some reason.
63. To nr 56
Alexander ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (07.27.12)
You place a price tag on human lives? Do you want me to place a price tag on you? Why should Israel bid to host the Olympics? Don't you think that non Jews can at least show a minimun amount of respect for their fellow human beings - Jews included? Does it really cost a fortune to maintain a moment of silence? You represent the same evil as many others in this world: a perverted twisted unnatural aversion/hostility to Jews resulting in physical and verbal attacks on Jews, trivialization of Jewish suffering, placing the blame on the Jewish victims or simply displaying a blatant lack of respect for Jewish lives or simple showing a perverted solid indifference to Jewish lives.
64. Then it's official: "Palestinians" are terrorists and..
Alexander ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (07.27.12)
...support killing Jews because we are Jews. Is this what you Israel bashers support? "National liberation" through cold blooded murder on innocent Jewish/Israeli civilians? You show your true colors. And some questions to the Israel bashers: what "occupation" are you talking about? Occupation according to International Law means that State A has conquered State B as a result of war. No "Palestinian" state existed in 1967, 1949, 1948, 1947, or 100, 200, 500, 1000, 5000, 10.000 or 100.000 years ago. You use the invented "Palestinian" people as an excuse to hate and destroy Israel. You care nothing for the "Palestinians". 1) Why is "Palestine" a Roman/Latin name? 2) Why is there no letter "p" in Arabic? 3) Nationalism is alien to Arabs who have, for 1400 years, lived as nomads and Beduins in multi-ethnic and multi-racial "Arab" empires whose majority population - locals, subjects, soldiers, mercenaries, scientists, mathematicians, physicians and merchants, were no ethnic Arabs, merely Arab speaking Persians, Kurds, Turks, Jews, Berbers and Africans. Why is that? 4) There is no "Palestine" in the Bible or the Koran. Why? 5) The Bible and the Koran BOTH admit that Israel is the Jewish homeland. How come? 6) Jewish/Israelite history started 2000 B.C.E in Israel - 4000 years ago. Arab history of the original Arabians, started in the 7th century C.E. 1400 years ago, in the southwestern corner of the Arabian peninsula, hundreds of kilometers away from Israel, 2600 years AFTER the start of Jewish civilization. How can Arabs be the "natives" of Israel? 7) Most Arabs arrived in Israel as recently as the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. How is that ancient history and how does that make "Palestinians" the "natives"? 8) When and where exactly did a "Palestinian" state, republic, nation state, kingdom, city state, duchy, principality or empire exist in recorded history, what are the names of kings and dynasties, cities, towns, villages and currency and why is there not a single ancient civilization mentioning anywhere any "Palestinian" state, civilization, nation or people? "Palestinians" are as native to Israel as the British are to China.
65. Bibi do the right thing, dismantle the PA at once!
Jake ,   USA   (07.27.12)
These murderous thugs do not deserve freedom and/or power. They are the lowest level of scum. That they are in essence defending the murder of Olympic athletes, is unforgivable! Do the right thing Bibi -- dismantle the PA and arrest its officials -- do it now and annex your homeland. Show some leadership and do what must be done!
66. # 26 STARS & STRIPES
Sudhulika ,   India   (07.28.12)
Really? Would you have said the same if there were no commemoration of 9/11 attacks anywhere.. and people just "moved on" with their own set of problems? How does it not matter when, how and where a terrorism happen? It could be one of your own family members in the line of shot, I'm sorry to say. Commemorating a tragedy is no matter or politics, it's basic human gesture
67. # 56 Ivor
Sudhulika ,   India   (07.28.12)
So you mean to say that only the countries/communities who have enough money to satiate the appetite of greed of people like you are supposed to be commemorated for any tragedies that might have happened on their people? Wow!! Is that the "Olympic spirit" that everybody keeps talking about? Tonight's ceremony is NOT about Great Britain... it's about everybody directly or indirectly taking part on it (or "paying" for it in some or the other way)
68. shame!!!
lenny ,   usa   (07.28.12)
lets make this simple. 40 years ago I murdered your family members, now on the 40th anniversary of that CRIME, I would prefer you not mention it as it may cause me a certain discomfort. Shame on the olympic committee, not even a few seconds of remembrance.
69. #6 - Mark, if the IOC is not a political group...
William ,   Israel   (07.28.12)
then why did they allow "Palestinians", people from a non-recognized, non-sovereign State (as stated by the ICJ just last month) to compete under the name of this fictitious State... but did not extend the same right to other people of non-recognized, non-sovereign States, like Kurdistan, Kashmir, Western Sahara, Tibet, the Tamil areas, etc.? If that isn't a political stance - one that does not reflect the majority of UN members and the ICJ, then what is??
70. #30 - I believe the Israeli athletes were killed in cold blo
William ,   Israel   (07.28.12)
while the attack on Kana was deemed a grievous, but not intentional, accident. Big difference. Mark.
71. Instead of lauding Obama enemy use twitter. Talk to people..
Miron ,   USA   (07.28.12)
72. Palestinians do not deserve a state...
PO ,   Ramat Gan, IL   (07.28.12)
... with this stance they showed unworthy to have their own state. Just simply they do not know a sense of decency.
73. #56 ivor - thank you...
solomon ,   bklyn   (07.28.12)
for showing that you prefer not to be engaged in discussion on an issue dealing with people and emotions, related to terrorism and murder. You'd rather sit back and watch games. Important games to be sure, but games nonetheless. Have you bothered to read post #13? Are you avoiding post #58? The answer to those questions are probably 'no', 'yes'. That says a lot regarding the validity of your opinion.
74. Oy veh!
imafreeagent ,   Florida   (07.28.12)
Enough already. This is about honoring dead Brits, not something that happened 40 years ago. If Israel wants to showcase her dead, she can hold her own ceremonies.
75. IOC's political decision was not to hold a moment of silence
Isaac Galili ,   Israel   (07.28.12)
A squad of terrorists murdered eleven athletes at the Olympic Games in 1972. In this manner was the Olympic Games sullied. The IOC, by deciding not to remember these athletes, made a political decision for fear of "offending" those who support the terrorists' cause. This IOC refusal is a gross insult and we won't forget this slight.

solomon ,   bklyn   (07.28.12)
Dead are not showcased, they are remembered. It is not about Brits but about the Olympics and international terrorism. I expect more from a Brit. Fortunately my Brit friends make me proud to know them. I suggest you read posts #13, #58, #67. Then read them again, slowly.
77. Palestinians welcome IOC's rejection
Monica ,   Davie, USA   (07.29.12)
That is such a shame! Have the entire world lost its spirit of courage except for Israel? 11 israelis were murdered in cold blood by those Palestinians, and we do not have the courage to stand in support of the truth? May God have mercy on us all.
