Let's face it: the only reason the CIA considers Israel the top counterintelligence threat is because surrounding countries do not have the intelligence capabilities that Israel has. And, why does the CIA have personnel living in Israel, if not to conduct its own intelligence operations? This isn't exactly news, but friendly nations spy on each other too. Every nation does it. Unfortunately, the Pollard case really soured relations as far as Washington is concerned. That blunder cost the Israelis far more in the long term than it was worth in intelligence that the traitor Pollard volunteered to give Israel. And, he took money from Israel while doing it. That makes him something different from a misguided supporter of Israel. That makes him a spy and a traitor. The CIA isn't going to forgive and forget anytime soon.
