1. Stop politicizing the Olympics
World Citizen ,   Planet Earth   (07.29.12)
Say NO to politicization of Olympic Games. London Olympic is a sporting event. It's not an event for publicity stunt for hasbarah/propaganda.
2. Palestinian flag to fly all over Palestine ...
Palestinian   (07.29.12)
3. As a (Jewish) Israeli I don't think there should have been
a moment of silence   (07.29.12)
I'm an Israeli Jew, yet I don't think there should have been a moment of silence in the Olympic games opening ceremony. We're talking about an event that happened about 40 years ago. While we in Israel, and not only in Israel should always remember this terror act and the dead athletes, I think it's too much to ask the whole world to acknowledge it, every year, in the midst of a worldwide live event which is a big celebration. Why "spoil the party" for the whole world? I think it will only raise antagonism against Israel and Israelis who again "force the whole world" to acknowledge their suffering.
4. its not their shame but ours
oferdesade ,   israel   (07.29.12)
refusing the minute's silence, then allowing one for the victimjs of the underground bombing in loondon, not recognizing jerusalem as the capital - it's our shame that we went.
5. Moment of silence
Tom   (07.29.12)
If the Olympic committee allowed a moment of silence for every civilian killed in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict the Games wouldn't even begin.
6. Keep religion and politics out of sport
Haim ,   TA   (07.29.12)
While i remember adn respect the Israeli athletes that died in the terror attack in Munich, i dont think it would have been appropriate to observe a minutes silence. Lets just remember those that died in our own way.
7. #1 Should've told it to your people 40 years ago
Tahl   (07.29.12)
The Chutzpa that Klieger is talking about is reflected perfectly in your post. You people are the ones who started the politicization of the Olympics, by the despicable murder of innocent Israeli athletes, only to advance your political goal. Now when we ask merely to honor their memory, and to condemn this senseless act of violence - you have the unbelievable Chutzpa to call this politicization. King of hypocrisy!
8. #5 The Munich terror victims were Olympic athletes!
Tahl   (07.29.12)
The Munich terror victims were Olympic athletes, participating in the Olympic games, residing in the Olympic village. How many other terror victims have there been throughout the history of the Olympics? The answer is ZERO. Are you that thick that you cannot make this simple distinction?
9. #5 Tom
michael north ,   karmiel israel   (07.29.12)
Who is talking about every palestinian killed? The Israeli sportsmen killed at Munich were there exactly in the spirit of the game. They were coldbloodedly murdered by terrorists at the Olympic village which should have prepared enough security to prevent this attack. The Olympic commitee is wholly responsible for the security and should acknowledege this terrible crime. But they are so scared of the Arabs that the chairman has put his tail between his legs when asked for a minutes silence-it has nothing to do with politics-it is respect for fellow Olympic participants that came in peace and were murdered by Palestinians who now cynically manoevre their opinions about the Olympic commitee- a pure disgrace t
10. This is a sick world....
Madelyn ,   Israel   (07.29.12)
Are you serious? 11 Olympic Athletes and coaches brutally murdered during the OLYMPIC Games does not deserve one minute of silence in their memory??? If it were any other country there would have been a whole presentation including photos and moving music!!!!
11. Why is noone talking about the fact the Palestinians are
What   (07.29.12)
considered a country by the Olympic commit y. Talking of not Politicizing the Olympics what could be more political??
12. #1: You are confused or just hate Jews!
David ,   Kamrmiel, Israel   (07.29.12)
If anyone is politicizing the Olympics it is Iran and the ARAB countries that will NOT compete against Israel! All Israel wants is one minute of the Olympic Games to remember 11 OLYMPIANS murdered at the Olympic Games in 1972. Surely this is not too much to ask from a world that stood by while 6,000,000 Jews were murdered? You might note that the British remembered those who were murdered by Muslim Fundamentals in London on 7/7! That was OK by the IOC but remember Jews? Of course not!
13. some are missing the point
martin ,   uk   (07.29.12)
The murdered Israeli athletes at Munich happened as part of the Olympic ideal. They were there as sportspeople within the Olympic village. Sept 11 had a minutes silence for the dead (fair enough for a terrible attack), that was nothing to do with the olympics. If the athletes had been anything other than Jewish Israelis, a commemeration would be held every olympic year. Perhaps the Israeli Arab holding the Fakestinian glag needs to tender his resignation as an Israeli. Surely Jordan or Syria beckons him to a higher level
14. #1 propaganda ??
deavman ,   Acco, Israel   (07.29.12)
Is remembering the murder of 11 athletes by terrorists an act of propaganda. Did we make up the story of their death....or may be you think that the Mossad organized the whole thing in order to get some publicity.
15. Moment of silence most appropriate at Olympics
Isaac Galili ,   Israel   (07.29.12)
Israelis have the right to have their dead remembered at the Olympics, and if some people think that is "politicizing" the Olympics then what would you call the massacre of 11 of our athletes in the 1972 Olympics carried out by Palestinian terrorists? The terrorists' purpose was to "fly the Palestinian flag" at the Olympics, and that they did. The marring of the Olympics by the Palestinians is a perfectly legitimate moment to remember AT THE OLYMPICS.
16. PLO politicized Olympics in 1972.
Doug ,   UK   (07.29.12)
The politicization of the Olympics was part and parcel of the PLO decision to murder Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympics. The refusal of an Arab Judo team to train adjacent to the Israeli team in the UK this week was another political stunt. The Olympic body and the international community at large, have shown a great willingness to go out of their way to appease such racist and political machinations of hatred against the Jewish people and their state. Yet the same bodies refuse to even spare one minute of silence to remember the Israeli athletes who were murdered just for taking part in the Olympics during 1972. If the murdered Olympic athletes had been British, American or any other nationality, such a memorial would have taken place without question.

Arn ,   Yehud, Israel   (07.29.12)
Had they been Swiss or Swedes, Moroccans or New Zealanders that minute of silence would be a permanent fixture of the Olympic games. You guys have back problems. Born spinelsss.
18. To: No. 5
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.29.12)
But the eleven Israelis killed in 1972 were Olympic athletes. How about the people who were killed in the terror attack on the London tube? Were they Olympians? The Israeli athletes should simply have come to a halt before the royal box and played Hatikvah. Rogge is a coward, who caved in to terrorist demands. Exactly what happened in 1972.
19. Jerusalem as our capital
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (07.29.12)
Sadly the BBC is not alone in being confused about Israel's capital. The USA embassy is in Tel Aviv and at a White House press conference, a spokesman for Pres. Obama refused to say Jerusalem was Israel's capital.
20. Palestine but not Kosovo? IOC bigotry!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (07.29.12)
Palestine, an entity that is not recognized by the UN (except some of its Arab/Muslim countries which give nothing to assist the "poor" Palestinians) is allowed to compete under its own flag but Kosovo is not recognized by this crooked and corrupt organization, and the Kosovar athletes have to compete under flag of Albania! No politics in sport! HA!
21. Is there a compelling reason why there should not be a memor
Denis MacEoin ,   Newcastle, UK   (07.29.12)
A few years ago, there was a memorial silence at the Olympics, for a competitor who had died in an accident. It was felt that the death of a single Olympist waqs a matter for grief by all those assembled, sportsmen and women and the general public. This principle applies even more to the commemoration of the deaths of the Israelis at Munich. It is not a case of thrusting Israel on the rest of the world. Once everyone had agreed to participate in games that are supposed bring people of all nations together, that sense of internationality prevailed. Israel deserves decent treatment in sucvh a gathering, just as much as any other nation. As for your gripe about this being '40 years ago', you must be a child. I remember the Munich incident well. Forty years is not that long.

imafreeagent ,   Florida   (07.29.12)
How many more Olympic games since 1972 will it take before Jews cease invoking the Munich Massacre at every opening ceremony and demanding that the world to kiss Israel's collective a**?
24. Murder of Olympic athletes was Arab politics thag needed to
PETER SM ,   MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA   (07.29.12)
Be rejected by the whole world. It was an unheard of act of barbarism in the history of the Olympics
25. Strange.
Even Balance ,   Beit Yehoshua, IL   (07.29.12)
Firstly, why would the Palestinians thank the IOC for *not* commemorating something that they themselves proudly commemorate each year? Secondly; why did he allow a memorial for the victims of the London bombings? Were those victims also killed because of the Olympic games? I find it ironic that NBC chose to cut to commercials during that memorial presentation by Akram Khan, who was very insulted. He said: "It brings to mind the question - but maybe I'm wrong because I don't really know the reason - but it brings to mind a question that maybe it's too truthful, and I think that says it all really," he said. I mean no disrespect to those victims in the London bombings, but the moral hypocrisy of the IOC is astounding and far too vast to ignore.

They should have a moment of silence not because they were Jewish(israeli) but because they were OLYMPIC ATHELITS.
