Afraid to see Iran as an American threat. Much easier to pretend Iran is only Israel's problem and pray Israel attacks and pays the price for the attack. Romney's ratings are going up while Obama's are sinking.
32. Restraint
Syd Chaden ,   Palermo   (07.29.12)
With all due respects to Peres, restraint is not the appropriate term for a failure or unwillingness to act when action is needed. The Saudis, recognizing this, have given up dependency on the US for their security vs Iran, and have contracted with China for missiles to carry the nuclear warheads that they will obtain from Pakistan. Obama needs American Jewish contributions and votes, and so, he has stated his "undying commitment to Israel's security". That "undying commitment" will die a quick death after the elections, if Obama is reelected. But, the paramount concern is for Israel's survival, in the face of the threat from Iran and generally, from the Muslim World. So long as Obama is president, Israel should not depend upon the US, and its "restraint", for its survival.
33. Romney is Israel's friend until November 7th.

The Obama or Romney, it will be sell Israel down the line, as usual!
34. #24 sk, I quadrupled my donation to Obama.

Dan ,   NYC   (07.29.12)
The question is whether Israel can do "substantial damage" to the Iranian nuclear program. Most "experts" agree that Israel cannot set back Iran's nuclear program by more than a year or two (this is not considered substantial. Substantial is what the US could do, which is set back Iran's program by far more than a few years.) If you don't respond with the names of experts who believe Israel can set back Iran's program by more than a year or two, than your original response was out of line. So put up or shut up. This is your second chance. Btw, no one believes the various computer viruses that have struck Iran's nuclear program were solely the work of Israel. At least no one who doesn't get all their news from Ynet talkbacks, that is.
38. Romney
Sam ,   US   (07.29.12)
If Israel thinks the Mormon will stand for Israel you all better think again. They are no friend of the Jew.
39. #30, #36: Israelis will never attack their Iranian friends.
Michael ,   California, USA   (07.29.12)
So, where is your west coast aggressiveness coming from, Judaism? You better re-read the tanah sections where the word "shalom" appears. Then, substiture "racism" for "shalom" and re-read to comprehend what you should not promote.

You either seriously overestimate Iran's military capability or you seriously underestimate the hatred that Americans have for the rulers of a country that invaded the U.S. Embassy in Teheran, and took hostages, which were held -- in abhorrent conditions -- for over a year. Nor have Americans forgotten the scenes of Iranian mullahs abusing and kicking the corpses of the American servicemen in the aftermath of Carter's failed and pathetic hostage rescue attempt. You seem unable to grasp the concept that Americans do not like terror and terrorists -- Iran is a state sponsor of terror and funds and arms terrorist organizations which the American people find abhorrent. Israel's popularity with Americans, according to all reliable polls, is extremely high and continues to soar. Americans like Israel. Americans do not like Iran. Not only will Americans support any Israeli effort against Iran, but they will be clamoring for the United States to enter the conflict -- needless to say, on Israel's side. What you also completely fail to understand is that the average American looks at Israel and sees a lot of commonality between Israel and the United States. The average American also sees in Israel a tiny country that has never wanted anything but to live peacefully in its tiny sliver of land, and has been drawn into six wars, has sustained seven decades of unremitting terror and has had to put up with endless rhetoric promising death and destruction. The average American is also quite capable of looking at the incredible benefit which the Jewish state -- and the Jewish people, for that matter -- despite all the external threats and difficulties, and likes and respects that spunky tiny state. There is a great deal about Israel that resonates quite deeply with Americans. Following September 11, 2001, Israel's popularity really started to rise -- Americans had a taste of what Israel has had to put up with for seven decades. The average American is equally capable of looking at the Islamic Republic of Iran and seeing nothing which resonates. Dreary, dark, drab, threats, primitive religious practices, harsh suppression of minorities -- yet a country that has the very nerve to call the United States the "Great Satan." For someone who purports to live in the United States, you seem to know very little about Americans.

The United States had nothing to do with the development of the malware that has turned Iran's computer networks into hash. We'll let you piggyback and claim some of the credit, but the work was all done by Israel. Do you also think that the United States deserves some credit for the Israeli strike on the Osirac reactor, because the aircraft were manufactured in the United States? Finally -- I think a nuclear strike upon Iran would set back its program considerably. Don't you? Do you really think that Israel does not take existential threats seriously? Think we wouldn't drop the hammer on that sh*thole? Oh, we would. We would.
42. 34-typical leftist drivel
Stephen in New York   (07.29.12)
What "racism" in post 24? Many despise Obama because he's incompetent. Race is not a factor for most Obama critics- competence is the issue.
43. SpyPutz 4-consistently ill-informed and
Stephen in New York   (07.29.12)
dumb. Like when you used to insist over and over again that: "Israel has no inherent advantage in weapons technology." If I were as stupid as you are I'd shoot myself and call it a mercy killing. Incidentally Romney will carry the popular vote 55% to 45%.
44. #43 - Popular vote means nothing
spyguy ,   seattle usa   (07.29.12)
Although it is unlikely that Romney will get even 50% of the popular vote, that is NOT how America elects presidents. Right now Romney is losing by 50 points in the electoral college which is what counts. As for weapons, Israel really has no major advantage, especially since it has been conclusively demonstrated in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan that "technology" does not win wars these days. Sure, in the middle ages, technology made a difference, but these days everyone has similar technology (thanks to globalization). Reality may make you angry, but reality is still reality. Of course, the people in the US and Israeli military that get paid to know this stuff, KNOW that Israel has no major advantage.
45. To #40 Sarah B
Bertram ,   London, UK   (07.29.12)
"...Americans do not like terror and terrorists...". An understatement, if anything. I guess most people in the world are none too happy about terror and and terrorists either. However, leaving aside the moral arguments for a strike at Iran's nuclear capacity, do you not think that Afghanistan and Iraq might have made the US electorate a little war-weary? Do you not feel that however much the American people may feel for Israel this may be tempered by their own losses in two protracted wars which have not exactly led to the happiest of outcomes?
46. Romney and his supporters
Nina ,   NYC   (07.30.12)
can go eff themselves. Stay out of our politics. The more you whine, the more determined we are to reelect Obama. We are sick of your country and warmongering and constant whining.
47. It'll be a miracle if America even makes it to election day
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (07.30.12)
without the Islamist/Marxist dictator declaring martial law after a false flag operation.
48. SpyPutz 44-A 3% advantage in the electoral vote
Stephen in New York   (07.30.12)
A 3% advantage in the electoral vote almost guarantees an electoral college victory, a 5% advantage guarantees it. As for Israel's military advantages, they are so numerous and overwhelming that I don't know where to begin. And that just refers to what is publicly known. You're really misinformed, but I think that a function of your hostility towards Israel and Jews.
