1. What's needed is good leadership!
Jake Stone ,   USA   (08.03.12)
First, court-martial these punks, then put them in prison for five-years. This type of hazing should NEVER be tolerated--period! A matter-of-fact, the CO (on down the chain-of-command) of the unit should, also, be disciplined, because if he doesn't have a better handle-on-things, his leading skills must stink. The whole chain-of-command is questionable.
2. IDF is fast becoming a laughing stock...
Marco ,   Spain   (08.03.12)
Have you ever heard of discipline?

Amen. Well stated. Thank G-d I made it thru sadir and miluim without any serious razing incidents. Not sure that I would not have inflicted serious or even mortal physical damage on jerks who got off beating up others. This is bullying at its worst, and it damages the "monitin" of the IDF and it's officer corps. #1 is correct in stating the all of the officers of this unit need to be made accountable.
4. there was a time the officers were exemplary
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (08.03.12)
Who remembers the begining of the IDF? When the officers set the example for bravery and self sacrifice? Todays career officers lack the leadership abilities that were standard by men who worked the fields and fought for their very life. Today's army lacks the idealism of old. Haval, that the zionist ideals have given way for USA television programs and hedonism.
5. Thank G-d Haredim are not part of this corrupt army

The soldiers and officers come from the people. If the IDF are corrupt, then the people of Israel is corrupt too. In short, you are also corrupt.

11. Russians exporting army culture
Mark   (08.03.12)
This and other cases are typical of the brutality of the Russian military. Russian parents who can afford it will do anything to spare their children from being drafted. Too many soldiers have lost their lives or become disabled as a result of brutal hazing. Unfortunately it only takes a few individuals with Russian connections to export those traditions to Israel. It's very unfortunate that commanders are not taking stronger measures to discourage violence within brigades and to heavily punish those who perpetrate it or condone it.

Rhonda ,   Chicago, USA   (08.04.12)
I've read somewhere that Israel has a standing army of around 175,000 men and women plus the reserves. Out of those numbers we have 8 soldiers who behaved atrociously in this situation. OK, let's not overlook some other instances that have been in the news recently. Because we have a few bad eggs in the basket the IDF is now a "laughingstock", "needs to learn discipline", "needs to be more professional"? Why not just say, "these 8 are bad soldiers, mean people and this situation needs investigated and the appropriate punishment made after due process rather than indict the entire Zahal who to date have shown exceptional courage in protecting this country? I love and respect Zahal and if there are some individuals who need weeded out, then it will be taken care of as these things come to light.
18. This should not happen in the Jewish communities

Ready to join ? You can't have a professional army until there is a contract between the IDF, which no longer makes it vulonatary
21. #13 AVI - Maybe you'll come over
BEN JABO (MACHAL) ,   ISRAEL   (08.04.12)
and show the IDF how to go about doing it, don't leave it the other guy, do it yourself

I'm 56 years old and have epilepsy. I don't think the IDF wants me. I'm not sure Israel would want me. I ask myself all the time, "where can I do her the most good? Making Aliya or staying put and working as hard as I can to help people here understand the strategic importance of Israel to the US, her situation and the distortions in the media about her?" People make contributions in their own ways and to the best of their abilities. I follow the news off the Internet continuously and respond accordingly. We should be grateful for what everyone does, each accordingly to their abilities. Just my opinion.
23. A "Corrupt" Army
Rhonda ,   Chicago, USA   (08.04.12)
#5 Corrupt Army?? Because 8 soldiers did a bad thing, a wrong thing you are going to label the entire IDF as corrupt? So, you also mean those that are always in harms way at the checkpoints to try to prevent suicide bombers from infiltrating, those on patrol at Sinai, well let's throw in the paratroopers on Ammunition Hill, and for Pete's sakes we don't want to forget that selfish bunch at Ben Tal in 73. A corrupt army- the whole kit and caboodle??? I dont think so. A few bad people in this situation which needs fully investigated and punished appropriately.
24. # 5 Yeah Abe the Haredim just beat up on women and kids..
Bad Assed Jew ,   United States   (08.04.12)

Jews or not. Evil is not limited to any one, it is an equal opportunity temptation, ( for some )
26. # 22 Rhonda, you don't have to explain
Bad Assed Jew ,   United States   (08.04.12)
my own mother lived in Israel and I helped to support her. Yes, we all do what we can. You don't owe any one an explanation. Shabbat Shalom.
27. #22 Rhonda - Just because Gregg
BEN JABO (MACHAL) ,   ISRAEL   (08.04.12)
lives in Haifa doesn't mean he's Jewish male, it's a Arab FEMALE, as of yet I don't believe Arab women have been subject to conscription of have volunteered for Military Service Gregg ALWAYS look for opportunities to post negative comments about Israel, so take his with a least a Kilo of Kosher Salt
28. This can be avoided by teaching...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (08.04.12)
in the State schools ,science +Tora by genuine Tora Rabbis. Secular youth to often don t even know that they have a Jewish soul, that need as much care as their body. It is the soul that gives sane joys, and if the soul is weak and sad, people might look for unhealthy pleasures to give them joy, like hurting and breaking others. Those who have a strong soul are filled with love and joy,and their greatest pleasure is to give happiness .
