The Christian in this case was the girl's own Jewish father, not some missionary. He took her to Evangelical events/concerts which attracted her and impressed her. According to The Telegraph the father did not try to convert her and was somewhat perturbed that she went behind his back to apply for baptism. Sadly the law itself expects the judge to allow the child's own opinion to be paramount. Ten is too young to make such a decision. I hopwe there is an appeal process.

I guess if you are a denizen of Kfar Tapuah, one of the more rabidly extreme settlements, then Ariel Ben Yochanan's ghetto mentality makes much sense. This isn't the 16th century, when Jews were locked into ghettos by Christian authorities. We live in a globalized, open world where individuals make their own choices of how they wish to live their lives. The Jewish father who converted to Christianity made that choice. That his daughter in this messy divorce wanted to follow her father is indeed a double loss to the Jewish people, but Ben Yochanan would have us re-erect the ghetto walls rather than engage in the contemporary world as it is. I would rather recreate a modern (or post-modern?) Jewish theology that is more open to the many non-Jews who wish to convert to Judaism and live in Israel but instead face medeval rabbinic roadblocks from the likes of Ben Yochanan, than move back to ghettos, including self-erected ones.

The Judge is English, the Law is English and both Parents are obliged to accept English law. The Judge may not be your cup of tea but apparently has more brains in his little finger than you can muster in your whole head. Try to be logical,when in Rome do as the Romans etc

You are living in the UK so the reality is that you are subject to English Christian law and this you have accepted by choice or necessity. For those living in Israel they are more likely (not always) to listen to the opinion of an Israeli Judge and and also possibly a Rabbi. Jewish law in Israel is relevant to a Jewish state
