The Obama-administration's view on this issue matches the US's position in the cold war. For the US, it was survivable, if Europe ceased to exist AND for Obama it will be survivable, if Israel ceased to exist. Back in the 1970s and 80s the U.S. and the USSR found it feasible to contain a nuclear battlefield in the center of Europe and I remember France a "friend" of Germany deploying short range "hades"-missiles with a nuclear warhead, which only could have detonated in Germany and the U.S. deploying nuclear artillery in Western Germany. everything was concentrated there. And now look at the Middle East? Does anybody believe, Obama, Clinton or their patriarch, Jimmy Carter give a f*** on Israel? Is there anybody learning-disabled enough to raise his/her finger?
