1. Congratulations, Israel awekened !
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (08.17.12)
After 60 years of silence. At the conference concentrate at the Aleppo jewish community, once with 15 000 members, now not a single soul.
2. About time!
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.17.12)
3. Jewish refugees from Arabic speaking countries
Aaron Duchan ,   Zichron Yaakov   (08.17.12)
It's a little too late to bring this valid issue up now, isn't it? It should have been forcefully presented to the world community in the early years of the State of Israel as an exchange of populations -- the same as occurred when India and Pakistan were created out of the British Raj. However, Israeli leaders at the time felt culturally superior to Mizrachi Jews -- and, in addition, saw Mizrachi Jews as Zionist immigrants - not refugees. These factors leaded to them to do nothing of consequence on this issue and thus Israel missed a golden opportunity to frame the narrative of Palestinian refugees as a population exchange of approximately equal numbers of individuals. The truth is that without the Arab persecution, riots, expulsions, etc. of their native Jew population that followed the UN Declaration and the creation of the State of Israel, Mizrachi Jewish immigration to Israel still would have occurred -- but at a much slower place -- and today, there would be a much higher number of native Jews left in the Arabic speaking countries.
4. Long overdue
Big bad Jew ,   United States   (08.17.12)
Go for it Danny!! The UN has been taken over by the islamists - time for the other side to present their case. No wonder the arabs are nervous.. They have every right to be. Pay up you anti semitic louts. Sue baby sue!!! Win baby win!!
5. Egyptian Jews are refugees. So are Libyan, Iraqi etc
EgyptianJewRefugee ,   Ex. Cairo, Egypt   (08.17.12)
Egyptian Jews are refugees. So are Libyan, Iraqi etc. We will never be compensated but finally we must be recognised as such.
6. Whatever, Palestinians not getting right of return to Israel
Sam ,   Canada   (08.17.12)
In the real world no amount of Palestinian demanding, complaining, arguing, crying, etc will get them a right of return into Israel. Israel will not give up its Jewish majority whatever legal arguments Palestinians throw at it. For the Palestinians it's acceptance of a Jewish majority Israel or the status quo.
7. TWO WORDS.... BRILLIANT IDEA!!!!!
Alan ,   SA   (08.17.12)
The Nazis Second World War was the biggest robbery perpetrated in the history of mankind. The Arabs robbery of its Jews' property and other assets was a similar biggest robbery The so called "PALESTINIANS" are just a name coined by the PR firms that covers the "ARABS of South Syria" to make out they are a poor little oppressed group of "Davids" against a big mean "Goliath" All Arabs must take responsibility for their robbery!
8. Good luck, Mr Ayalon!
Manny ,   Canada   (08.17.12)
The UN has never printed the words "Jewish refugee" and has never granted refugee status to any Jew anywhere at any time. The definition of Palestinian refugees (by the UNRWA) was carefully crafted to exclude Jews without being explicitly racist. Now they want the UN to recognize 800,000 Jewish refugees? Good luck, Mr Ayalon!
9. Israel is not looking to make any money here
zionist forever   (08.17.12)
It is a political tactic you want compensation which is being used against the arab world in general into getting them to stop their supporting the palestinians. If you support their big for unilateral statehood to be granted by the UN then we will demand you arab states compensate us but try stop it we wont ask for a penny. Also probably aimed at the pro palestinian western countries who support a right of return say you support palestinian right of return demand or any demands that property is given to them then we are going to complicate everything and demand no deals unless we also get compensation from the arabs. Israel is not seriously looking to get money just a bargining chip to use against the palestinian allies let them know we will not be walked all over.
10. Not 1 museum or website devoted to this
MIssedOpportunities ,   Jeruslem Israel   (08.17.12)
How strange that there is not one museum or even a webste devoted to this tragic period of history How many know that Talpiot in Jerusalem housed ten thousand tents sheltering these regugees and was replaced by the slum housing still there today. I have seen a photo of this area in those days but it and others seem to be well hidden away by the politically correct crowd over the years as not to "hurt" or "embarass" the Arabs in hope of an illunsionary peace process truly a tragedy of missed opportunites. Why not a musuem with photos of the synagouges now mosques or descrated schools cemeteries there is nothing available to the public.
11. Arab racism
Shaul ,   ex-refugee, Israel   (08.17.12)
The same Arabs who never miss an opprtunity to scream "racism" are the real racists themselves. We Jews who fled or were expelled from Arab countries demand justice and compensation. In contrast to the Arab "refugees" who are no longer real refugees, we didn't whine but rebuilt our lives in our homeland Israel and other countries.
12. It's late, but not to late!
tiki ,   belgium   (08.17.12)
It's about time that those 'poor Arab Palestinians are shown what they could have had, wouldn't they have been following the path of war & terror. An Arab refugee = an eternal refugee! A Jewish refugee = a succesfull member of society!
13. War reparations from Israel will be in the trillions
Steven Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (08.17.12)
How much is 8,000 square miles worth in today's market?
14. Encouragment to leave?!
solomon ,   bklyn   (08.17.12)
And in 1948 the arabs didn’t encourage their brethern to leave before the arab armies attacked?! Jews were kicked out. But if the arab excuse is that Jews don’t deserve compensation because they were encouraged to leave (even though they weren’t), then the arabs shouldn’t be asking for compensation on that exact same basis! LOL.
15. The issue of stateless Arabs in Palestine is an Arab issue!
Yael Schlichting ,   currently Munich   (08.17.12)
Arabs must accept once and for all, that they have caused the problem! They have started wars and refused every possible settlement of the issues between Jews and Arabs and the results are many wars, refugees and issues not being settled.
16. Jews compensation in Arab countris
Floriane ,   Israel   (08.17.12)
Well done! So many Jews left all their money, got their cars burnt and flee with nothing! Time to get it back! Great bargaining chip! Who colonized them? Arabs and the world wake up?
17. About time
Richard Mather ,   Manchester, UK   (08.17.12)
It's about time Israel raised this issue to the top of the agenda. The reality is that nearly a million Jews were forced to leave their homes and belongings. In contrast, the "Palestinian" refugee problem was self-inflicted.
18. To: No. 13
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.17.12)
I think if you bothered to do any legal research, you will discover that the aggressor is never entitled to "reparations." You might also learn that the Arabs were the aggressors in all six of Israel's wars. But of course you do realize that non-sovereign land does not belong to anyone -- except those who acquire it in the course of fighting a defensive war. The State of Israel was legally re-established. On land that had been Jewish for millennia. Your stupidity -- or cupidity; likely both -- really knows no bounds, does it? We know you're a fool, Steven. You don't have to keep on proving it.
19. #13 benassi
solomon ,   bklyn   (08.17.12)
It depends where. If they are in Israel, it is worth billions...because of the Jews who came home.
20. Long overdue
Gilon   (08.17.12)
I always why it took 60 years for Israel to take such a step? There were much more Jewish refugees than Palestinian refugees but nobody discusses about it. Anyway, its better late than never.
21. #13
aaron ,   toronto,canada   (08.17.12)
If you're refering to that sh*t hole called gaza it ain't worth a dollar. As you can see in all the countries surrounding israel it's also worth zero cause the arabs are more comfortable living on a sand dune instead of a house.
22. we should just swap theirs for ours
jack bauer   (08.17.12)
fakestinians are simply put, ARABS... they claim they are special but they are arabs plain and simple. If we simply say arabs kicked out jews, jews kicked out arabs . ok done send the arabs we kicked out to live in the countries where we were kicked out of
23. congratulations Danny Ayalon!
daniela ,   panama   (08.17.12)
As a jew expelled from Egypt I agree with all the efforts of Israel to put the jewish refugee from arab countries issue on the carpet. It is not because we do not live today in refugee camps that we are not, in fact refugees..we were robed, we were persecuted and we were expelled. The great difference between us and the arabs leaving Israel in 48 when they were promised the whole land after the arab countries would have ¨liberated Palestine¨¨, is that we did not ask help from anybody and we re did our lives.
24. Israel Started It
Steve Grumman ,   Tucson, U.S.A.   (08.17.12)
Had Israel not dispossessed Palestinians of their property and booted them off their land, the ill feelings that we see today in the region would not be there. Israel owes a lot to Arab states for taking in the Palestinians, housing and feeding them over the years and it's a bill that has to be paid.
25. To: Yael at No. 15
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.17.12)
There are no stateless Arabs in Israel proper, or in territories controlled by Israel. Israeli Arabs are Israeli citizens. Arabs in Judea and Samaria are Jordanian citizens. Even in the Golan, which was formally annexed in 1982, those Arabs who did not accept Israeli citizenship remain Syrian citizens. For that matter, dear, there is no such thing as ersatz "Palestinian" refugees. Their departure from Israel was entirely voluntary; that makes them displaced persons, not refugees. The Jews from Arab and Moslem lands were forced from their homes, most with little more than the clothes on their backs. They were true refugees. The nations that expelled them expropriated their homes, businesses, bank accounts and properties. Of course those nations are culpable and owe compensation, hence the uproar. Justice delayed is justice denied. It is time these Jews get justice which, in this case, is compensation for everything that was taken from them in clear contravention of international law. Plus interest and penalties, of course. They -- unlike the ersatz "Palestinians" -- were NOT voluntary quits; these Jews were forced from their homes. A significant legal difference.
26. You're very wrong...
Steve Grumman ,   Tucson, U.S.A.   (08.17.12)
The zionists created the situation by illegally migrating to Palestine after WWII. No one told them to do it, they just pushed their way in and dispossessed Palestinians of their lands. It's time for Israel to ante up compensation NOW!
27. What?? The UN asked to be fair with Israeli Jews??
Big bad Jew ,   United States   (08.17.12)
This should be novel, the UN has been the sole agent for benefit and 'welfare' of the 'invented people', the pals and the arabs for years now.... Despite the "Arab spring' when the UN silence was deafening. Theatre of the absurd this time, with a Jew as speaker for the israeli Jews.... Let's see how this goes, should be very interesting. Let's see what lies the pals and arabs have to say in response. Nothing like a law suit to get their attention.
28. #18, Sarah B, 10 year old Mom, Lawyer, plead the case at ICC
Steven Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (08.17.12)
...let's see what happens.
29. Better late than never!
Big bad Jew ,   United States   (08.17.12)
Oh - this should be good, the pals thought they had the UN in it's back pocket, now the issue of compensation for ousted Jews from how many arab nations will be addressed before the general assembly? If this results in a victory for Israel ( anything's possible although, in this case, I grant you nearly an impossible miracle ) and her displaced citizens who lost everything to the arabs, the judgment cold run into the trillions of dollars. Sweet, when you think of the interest alone after all these years. No one knows the law better than Jews, we have that from a Higher Authority.
30. #24..Wake up, it is Israel's land, Pal/Arabs are squatters
