1. What a sad situation where a man
spyguy ,   seattle usa   (08.28.12)
can simply walk away from a woman (and child) and the woman has no way to change the situation. In a fair world she woudl have been unchained from the man after a fair amount of time so she could restart her life. What if the man was actually dead? she should have been released from the "marriage" as quickly as possible so she could create a better life for her and the child.
2. When there is a will,there is a way.
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (08.28.12)
3. Divorce in absenteeism
mea   (08.28.12)
Why does it require a physical presence to receive a divorce? Equal rights demand that women be allow to divorce without permission from the male they are slung against.
4. May she now get ANY money has and leave him with nothing.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (08.28.12)
5. No TB as blind as those who do not want to see.
rebecca ,   Modiin   (08.29.12)
Thank you to the beth Din, for keeping the law and working with it for justice. Whenever there is a story about an Auguna there are soooo many TBs shouting about the Beth Din. Now here is a story about the Beth Din doing everything possible within the law to help a woman - and all those loud TBs are very quiet.
6. Rebecca (5)
Jacob ,   Beer Sheva   (08.29.12)
The woman has suffered for 20 years because yours rabbis are afraid to change a law they have themselves introduced - and you praise this? Look, why whould Hashem authorize innocent human suffering?
7. When a couple splits up there are three sides to the story
Al   (08.29.12)
His, hers and the truth. In reality both sides are to blame in a slit up. She got her 'freedom' ...yeah right...Hahaha Was she chained in chains over the past 20 years? She could have and probably did bunk with some other welfare guy in the interim. Its done all the time so they dont lose their individual welfare benefits. She will stay single, rack up those single mother welfare points and hope and pray she meets up with a 'real' providor. Rub on that rouge..paste on that smile...its showtime..honey.
8. Get rid of religious coercion NOW!!!
Gregg ,   Haifa IL   (08.29.12)
What kind of modern democracy has no civil weddings o divorces??? Why religion and religious people always have to stick there nose to everybody's aspect of life? Are we still in 10th century?
9. to #7: do not slander
DC ,   New York, US   (08.29.12)
Al, you do not know these people , so please do not spread libel. The guy here has admitted to be a deadbeat loser. Your mother, on the other hand, may be a rouge-covered honey, but give other people some credit.
10. #5: No, they should have let her divorce him 22 years ago
5th generation ,   Israel   (08.30.12)
11. The reason why ....
Menachem ,   Jerusalem   (08.29.12)
For some people (perhaps for modern democracy) marriage is just a stupid document which doesn't mean very much... But according to the beautiful Jewish law of the Torah, marriage is absolutely holy and pure. Which means that a couple who get married are bonded with 1000% commitment to each other and there is no way of getting out of that bond ...unless the give each other a get...which is the holy process of absolving the marriage. If all that my marriage means is the civil wedding I received in my local British council...then i agree with you....but my marriage means more than that...and hopefully so does yours.
12. #8 Gregg, as an Arab, you should be
BEN JABO (MACHAL) ,   ISRAEL   (08.30.12)
able to tell us which, if any Arab country, allows the things you are bellyaching about ?? How about naming at least two ?
13. Menachem no. 11
Jacob ,   Beer Sheva   (08.30.12)
You mean to say this woman needs to suffer for 20 years for your marriage to be holy?
14. Re: 13 - Jacob
Menachem ,   Jerusalem   (08.30.12)
No woman deserves to suffer for 20 years like this...and this (ex) husband is a piece of crap..
15. Jews should apply the Enoch Arden Law
BEN JABO (MACHAL) ,   ISRAEL   (08.31.12)
The Enoch Arden law is a statute in the United States which grants a divorce or a legal exemption to a person so that a person can remarry. This is granted if his/her spouse is absent without any explanation for a certain number of years, usually five to seven. This law derives its name after a Tennyson poem, in which the hero, having been shipwrecked for years on a desert island, returns home to find that his wife has remarried. He selflessly conceals his identity from her so that she can remain with her new husband
