1. Law Suit
Pinchas ,   Haifa Israel   (08.20.12)
This law suit is frivolous and a waste of tax payers and University money. The money could be better spend on student programs.
2. they don't care about that 15%
donsaliman ,   nahal oz, Israel   (08.20.12)
So what they are saying is that the 15% of the locals are not important enough.
3. Leftist witch-hunt
nadav ,   tlv   (08.20.12)
another neo-marxist, anti zionist campaign against an academic instituion. sad...
4. Makes sense good luck with the law suit.
Haim ,   TA   (08.20.12)
5. I am in SHOCK that Bar-Ilan U. is also participating in the
Patriotic Israeli ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (08.20.12)
lawsuit. So much for it being a representative of Religious Zionism. I have one son who graduated from there and one who is currently attending there. What message is the University sending to my sons? That indeed it is the leftists and the United States that define the boundaries of Israel. Not God! Not the Torah! But highter than that - Obama! Shame on you Bar Ilan U.
6. They claim Haredi refusal to enlist is the issue...
Miron ,   USA   (08.20.12)
Ariel Sharon's name is not in vain. His name and soul, like of rightous tzadek, still unite and lead Israel ahead. While his detractors make clowns of themselves for the world to behold the circus.
7. WHASSA MATTER? AFRAID OF THE COMPETITION?
stude ham   (08.20.12)
maybe it's about time that the fraidy cat universities in the rest of israel pulled up their socks and delivered more relevant curriculaes. as for the courts... let them show common sense and deny the petition.
8. @5
Walt ,   U.S.A.   (08.20.12)
Nowadays, you've got to send your Jewish kid to a Catholic university or Brigham Young in Utah to avoid the so called progressive (neo-marxist) indoctrination and violent, anti-israel leftiest/arab crowds on campuses. And thank to “diversity” policies, Ivey League is as affected as state and city colleges.
9. #5 Don't Be Suprised
EGGM ,   Petah Tikva, Israel   (08.20.12)
To all commenters and readers: the underlying motive here has little to do with left vs. right, as far as I can tell. Instead, it's all about money. With another research university, the existing ones stand to lose funds and face budget contractions. They will do anything to avoid this. Hopefully the court will do the right thing and ignore this petition, but the problem is that the court *does* interpret the issue politically and we all know where they stand on the issue.
10. This is a little bit as if ...
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.20.12)
.... Bob Jones University were to demand decredentialing Harvard University. The first university that should be decredentialed is Ben Gurion University of the Negev. Ariel has far and away a better crop of professors.
11. hard to believe this crap...
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (08.20.12)
They are petitioning against a university in the West Bank? They are a bunch of bigoted liberals who hatred of anything Jewish is obvious to all concerned. What a silly excuse, but there is a chance they will succeed seeing that there are many judges here who are also bigoted liberals.
12. #7 exactly
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (08.20.12)
This is good old socialism at work; get by on protectsia, not on achievement. The tenured professors do no work but get huge salaries. Then they get even bigger salaries for teaching at colleges or "consulting". Since they have a monopoly, they appoint friends and family to good positions. Now imagine if the Leftists had to answer to the fact that Ariel, with less money, exceeds them? Imagine if more Israel researchers were given the chance to prove themselves. Imagine what Ariel could do if funded like a University?
13. absolutely
yakov ,   nahariya   (08.20.12)
Why should we the taxpayers pay for a University in occupied territory when it is obvious that it will end up being part of Palestine. Better to spend this money on Israel.
14. Maybe unfairness or myopic exclusion?
Robert Blum ,   New Albany, USA   (08.20.12)
S'Dom & Amorah could not be saved for lack of G-d fearing Jews. Surely Judea & Samaria can be saved with a 15% local student body of 'good' students. This analogy may be a stretch of my imagination, but it makes a point that if the standards are up to par, then the status is appropriate. Please stop using the Arab concocted terminology, 'West Bank'! It is a device meant to de-Judaize Judea & Samaria, and heence to delegitimize Israel's proper claims to that land!
15. Power to vast patriotic majority of Israel!
Chaim ,   Israel   (08.20.12)
Once and for all, the vast patriotic majority of Israel must take the reins of power in our land. It is ludicrous to allow a tiny minority of far left "elitists" to boss us around. A far left minority with a historic record of being dangerously wrong on every important issue. Enough is enough! Power to the vast patriotic majority of Israel!
16. Boycott these 8 Universities
Joe Sombrero ,   Usa   (08.20.12)
In my opinion Israelis and American Jews should boycott these eight universities financially and physically and send their donations to Ariel University instead.
17. sue these universities and their leaders.
ralph   (08.20.12)
18. 4 others - which????
Noa   (08.20.12)
What is the problem of letting us know which universities signed? What kind of journalism is this??
19. To #13: You must be a Muslim idiot!!!
Jack B. ,   USA   (08.20.12)
I can tell you are uneducated; just maybe, you should attend this, soon to be, new accredited college? I'm sure they will even help the dumb like you. The college is not in occupied territory--moron! God bless Judea and Samaria (Israeli land)!
20. #15 just announced
(08.20.12)
The vast majority of Israelis want Migron saved from illegal destruction. Netanyahu again ignores the majority and has agreed to the decision by the corrupt AG to illegally evict Jews and destroy their homes. Apparently, Netanyahu wants to start what Ahmadinjad wants to finish.
21. Time for the government to act
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (08.20.12)
The courts do not have any authority in this matter and the government does. This lawsuit should cost those universities a lot. All the money they are illegally using is government money and the heads of the university should be removed for misappropriating the money. All those monies and the funds that will be spent to defend Ariel should be deducted from the universities and given to Ariel.
22. no. 19 and you?
yakov ,   nahariya   (08.20.12)
Whereas you my friend are simply an idiot and probably will remain so.
23. Here Here #1 & 9
Yvonne ,   Netanya, Israel   (08.20.12)
I am not religious or side with left or right, but money that goes to waste on fighting for a University to be deuniversitized is surely a waste of time and tax payers money, use the money for research, scholarships and not prove politically weather it is right or wrong, maybe Ariel University may surprise and surpass the ones who are suing!!!
24. Funny that the Student Unions Voted Yes
Yvonne ,   Netanya, Israel   (08.20.12)
Really interesting to read the the student unions of all the universities suing signed to have Ariel as a fully fledged University in the first place. What happened to change your minds????
25. @10 there u go again!
(08.21.12)
honey you' stupid is showin' Please cover it up!
26. Maybe Aviel Magnezi keeps....
Bluegrass Picker ,   Afula   (08.21.12)
...her money in some company called the "West Bank"? I don't know of any geographical place with that name.
27. to #9 EGGM
Bluegrass Picker ,   Afula   (08.21.12)
I am inclined to believe you. The good news is that those universities' managements can also be targeted with lawsuits. These guys are tortiously defaming the title of the Judea/Samaria residents to their homes. One good civil judgement resulting in loss of a villa in Hertzliya, will scare the panties off all these Tzfonbonim. PS: Most of those guys have assets abroad. That opens up brand new jurisdiction-shopping opportunities.
