of the siita muslim religion. For instance the beautiful self-whipping rituals. Pious shiites are marching on the street, crying "Ali, Ali", while whipping themselves with full force. The wonderful celebration ends with small lakes of blood. A perfect way to convert masses to this noble religion.

president Ahdeminajad will refrain from declaring the annihalation of Israel and the sanctions placed on Iran will deter him from his destructive path of making an atomic bomb to carry out his wishes. I remember when Israel had very friendly relations with Iran during the Shah's regime. Although Ahdeminajad speaks like a "hitler", I believe his people (with exceptions) do not share his hatred for us. God be willing, I hope this matter will be resolved in a peaceful way. However, today there is news that some countries /banks are there to help Iran overcome sanctions.
6. Huh? You dont want war?
Tim ,   Brighton   (08.21.12)
So what do we take these latest outbursts about Israel ' A tumour that has to be cut off' or 'We have to destroy them - one Jew at a time'? And what do we make of their supporting Hezbollahs de facto take over of South Lebanon and their support of Nasrallah? What are we to make of their persistent lying, prevarications on Nuclear negotiations? What are we to make of their persistant claims on Hormuz, Bahrein and the Gulf? What are we to make of their Anti West Anti Israel Anti Jewish Anti USA Anti Arab Anti Sunni Anti Slav Anti Black propaganda thats so deep rooted within the Regime and the RG...one wonders how that mentality can ever be changed That said...the levels of frustration anger embarrassment with the Regime and their gangster like behaviour by the MAJORITY of ordinary Iranians is growing day by day As one eminent Iranian Industrialist posted last week 'My line was crossed when the Regime accused Zionists and Jews for all the worlds drug trade'...thinking Iranians and his global audience might swallow these lies...All this has served to do is alienate even further the Regime from its people and make Iran yet again lose even more credibility and self respect..These people have got to go' Nobody in their right minds wants war.... My fear is that Ahmadinejad soon to retire gracefully will leave as his legacy ...The man who took Iran and the world to the very brink of war...and it was too late to stop

is VERY frightened. I hope Israel will continue with her plans. The moment she changes her mind is the moment Iran will strike. Israel must keep their eyes wide open. What this old fella's plan is to get Israel to "lay down arms" and Iran will unexpectadly attack. I certainly do not feel wrong about the above suggestion!

For very good reason the Iranians consider the US and Arab apartheid regimes their archenemies. The Arab apartheid regimes have a long history of conditioning the Arab people to hate Israel more than they want to live. Iran provoking confrontation with Israel is an insurance policy: Saudi Arabia would love to massacre the Persians, but correctly fears that if they attack Iran they will be viewed as Zionists and find themselves hanging.

Tim ,   Brighton   (08.21.12)
looking at its cover Of course any sane statements are to be welcomed But one solitary sane statement in a sea of inflammable and threatening statements doesnt spell a new dawn nor has it reduced the possibility of Iran developing nuclear weapons or siezing Bahrein or seizing the Hormuz or attacking Israel via its proxy Hezbollah And have you read the statements by their Naval Commander about the Gulf and Indian Shipping? 'All it needs is for our navy to sink one tanker of a soft target such as India' and that will send a clear warning to the rest of the world' I dont believe Tony that India is immune form their terror

I would surmise that Israel's military planners have targeted and will flatten the appropriate Iranian military installations and assets. I am pretty certain that genocide against the Iranian civilians is not part of the plan.
15. sanei
STAN MILLER ,   berkeley   (08.21.12)
it is presumed that if Israel attacks, she will go after military targets. the ayatollah states... "in that case we will not be caring about human rights". he is saying that they will attack civilians in Israel, a real war crime. these people do it now, so you have to believe him. and the world says nothing,
16. sanaei a liberal...
nadav ,   tlv   (08.21.12)
THAT"S the most liberal the Islamists get- calling for the annihilation of another country and "not caring about human rights" when retaliating! this country should be bombed back into the Middle Ages, which is where they want their people to be anyway!
17. Wow
Harry Larryson ,   Bombay Jakarata, USA   (08.21.12)
Why does Israel want to attack Iran. Such a misguided move. USA is not going to help, because Iran is not doing anything overtly bad. I love Israel, and I realize their paranoia, but Iran is not a neighbor, and starting a fight with them will lead to no positive end, even if they win. Wow. So dumb. For a country that is so wonderful, Israel needs to stop being so whiny. Worry about domestic issues before picking a fight with a nation miles away!!!!!!

So what if Iran is "miles away"?? It is a country who is funding hizbollah, so it has been attacking Israel indirectly for years. Nonetheless, isn't it bad enough that there's a country who officially state their wish is to destroy another country, with it's civilians, apathetic to human rights, and that country is trying to get it's hands on atomic weapons. I'd rather die than live in a world where an oppressive apartheid ridden country gains nuclear power. Are you blind to the implications of this?

The Ayatollah said, "I support human rights and freedom for all the people... What a bunch of hog wash. We all know that Iran has delivered tons of weapons to The Assad government in Syria and contributed to the deaths of over fifteen thousand Syrians. And what about human rights in his own country?: killing, torturing, maiming, hanging, forcibly imprisoning and on and on...
28. He's a realist
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (08.21.12)
He is, of course, quite right. Both sides would suffer terrible damage, and given their relative sizes and relative populations Israel could suffer more. We need hard hitting sanctions that are not evaded by Lebanon or Iraq and international inspection of Iranian nuclear facilities.

Alexander ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (08.21.12)
Tony, there are two (2) possibilities that lie behind your statement: "Why any sane statement is construed as sign of weakness by Israelis?" 1) Either you deliberately distort nr 3's statement or 2) you have gravely misunderstood the point of Tambour's statement. If you read his short talkback, you will see nowhere dear Tony that Tambour suggests that sanity is weakness, for that would imply that since Israel wants to defend itself and its right to exist, it has to mean that Israel's sanity is a sign of "weakness" too. What Tambour means is that Iran has threatened Israel with annihilation for 33 years since 1979, Iran has always - and without exception - relied on proxies such as Hamas and Hezbollah. Despite an excess of hot air and extravagant Iranian war rhetorics against Israel, Iran has never once bothered to attack Israel in the open - all Iranian attacks were clandestine attacks denied by the Iranian regime that has relied on proxies - Iran has never challenged Israel militarily. Have you ever bothered to ask yourself why? Yes this individual ayatollah is sane since he wants to avoid war with Israel, but if you read the article carefully, you'll see that he too wants to destroy Israel, but through propaganda and "intellectual methods". A question for you Tony: if this specific ayatollah wants to wipe out Israel (again read the article) why does he oppose an attack on Israel? Because he knows Iran will be severely pounded by Israel and Iran will suffer greatly. His sanity and his fear of Israel proves that Iran is afraid of Israel and that Iran stands no chance. And that's what Tambour from Eilat meant. Have you ever heard about reading between the lines?
