1. Judging Haredi s knowledge by...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (08.22.12)
secular school tests,is like judging a fish by it s ability to climb a tree. A thorough knowledge of the bible is worth more than a college education. Theodore Roosevelt.
2. Crime Rates
Zivron   (08.22.12)
But crime rates are low in bnai brak drug use almost unknown this is the balance. Also the Hardi live austere lives able to tolerate tough conditions economically.
3. #1 ORA. Your can't be serious,
Runner ,   USA   (08.22.12)
unless you want to live in the 18th century. Israel will not survive unless it has an educated population. The societal model of Israel is flawed, due to relative growth of the haredi population, many of who do not work and do not receive an education necessary to maintain and grow a modern society. it needs to be fixed before it is too late! And please don't respond by stating that Hashem will provide..... Hashem provides by encouraging work and education, to keep Israel strong.
4. #1, but doesn't their intense focus mean that it's
Henry from New York ,   USA   (08.22.12)
worthwhile to have them study practical things as well? There should be emphasis on Torah study, yes, but also practical skills. One should be able to contribute effectively to the physical wellfare of society as well as the spiritual.
5. Ora; not if you want to survive in...
Sue ,   Tel Aviv   (08.22.12)
this competitive world it's not.A balance of both would be ideal but we're not living in an ideal one but a highly competitive one.
6. ORA:With evolution a fish climbed a tree and became a human.
Michael ,   California, USA   (08.22.12)
You see how much education are you missing? But to your excuse, how a fish became a human could even be too much for a secular to know. On the other hand, everyone in secular schools is learning the Book of Books. They are scoring higher than Bnei Brak pupils at everything, even English grammar.
7. 3 4 5 6 My TB was incomplete....
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (08.23.12)
I am all for TORA study +Science.
8. What #1 doesn't realize
Avi   (08.23.12)
To make that post he uses a computer with internet access, powered by electricity, in his home. All of these were built, financed, and invented by seculars. We shouldn't hate him for it, only pity him. He represents a minority that is shown at the extreme bottom of a chart. He feels ashamed, and tries to save face by saying "its not important anyway". We must make him realize how important it is. I hope my comment helped him a bit.
9. 6 Michael,the humane qualities...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (08.23.12)
are higher in Bne Brak. And please, don t mention the rotten apples. Science+Conscience=Ideal education.
10. Ora and the unqualified
Miche Norman ,   Hod Hasharon   (08.23.12)
Ora - to state that people from Bnei Brak who study at Yeshivat Ochlei Hinam and Yeshivat Hi al Heshbonchem have any Jewish values whatsoever is just wishful thinking.
11. 6Michael That sounds fishy, that is...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (08.23.12)
a proof that evolution can go in reverse.
12. 10 Miche ,You do realize that ..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (08.23.12)
a Jewish State needs students that keep the Tora- given by G-D to the Jewish people- alive, don t you?
13. #12, Since you asked, the answer is ...
Michael ,   California, USA   (08.23.12)
A book based on legends with some factual information inserted later by Romans serves no useful purpose. Also, there is nothing out there except for stars and a huge void. Israelis will do fine through working hard and defending their borders. Jews can continue to live in Brooklyn. Feel free to ask more, if the Ynet censor will allow.
14. Ora and her needs
Miche Norman ,   Hod Hasharon   (08.23.12)
Ora you may need it, it is not the reason the state was established and anyone is free to believe that it is necessary and they are also invited to pay for those studies themselves, I personally don't beleive it and don't feel the need to subsidize anti-zionists
