31. #13 Please look at a map
Phil ,   USA   (08.28.12)
Darfur is in Sudan, to the west of the capital of Khartoum and almost the entire population of the region is Muslim. You pulled the "Christian and Animist" information from South Sudan a now independent state(wrong wikipedia entry I guess). How do you know what percentage of Eritrean's who have entered Israel are Muslims? Where did you get that information. Considering they are UNDOCUMENTED I have a hard time believing you didn't just make it up. Actually, no I found where you pulled that number, the Jpost article from 2/2/2010 that claims that 90% of the infiltrators are from Eritrea or Sudan. This article was written in Feb 2010, you know before South Sudan's independence meaning if you were to guess where a large refugee population at the time was coming from, it is more than likely the South aka non-Muslims. Let me put it this way, the Arab Khartoum/Ombudsman elite are not coming to Israel, it's the marginalized populations in Sudan who, even if Muslim, have no love for the Arab world. To anyone who thinks I'm "ignorant" or "rude", well when it comes to blind hatred and quite frankly racism, all pleasantries have already been done away with. Though I can't wait for the "left-winger" comments to be hurled my way or even the better "Go live in South Tel Aviv if you love them so much" which are inevitably coming.
32. you can thank MK herzog & similar morons
rick ,   walnut creek   (08.28.12)
send the bill to herzog. that fool and others like him just want to open the borders without any regard to any of the consequences. herzog is a complete moron.
33. #2 Sarah B
(08.28.12)
Well I guess that when you have to go, then you have to go whether in a synagogue or elsewhere... Don't be stupid Sarah, its not a Muslim thing, its human nature...
34. if they were mosques it would be top priority for Huldai
zionist forever   (08.28.12)
Ron Huldai is not the biggest fan of religion and has been trying to dejudiaize Tel Aviv for a long time now so it should not be any surprise that he is going for the cop out and saying synagogues are a matter for the Religious Affairs ministry rather than saying these synagogues are in my municipal boundaries I am going to see to it they are not turned into toilets by illegals. If these illetgals were taking over mosques the Muslims would be outraged and Huldai would e wanting to make sure the Muslims know he respects their faith and he would be taking a very tough line. Its easy to not bother when it comes to synagogues because when Jews complain they are written off as radical haredi and everybody loves to hate a haredi. When Muslims complain they are ordinary people whose place of worship is being defiled. Even if your not religious these synagogues are just as much part of Tel Aviv as the Azrieli Centre, or a private home. Huldadi should not be trying to pas the buck and instead should be taking care of the whole city he is mayor of not picking and choosing whats his responsibility.
35. I promise to do something about it
Larry Leader ,   Jerusalem   (08.28.12)
Me and my elitist trillionaire bosses definitely promise this time: we shall do something about it. (ha ha laughing my axe off, not really).
36. mosques in israel
nansy ahmad ,   ramallah   (08.28.12)
jews are using arab mosques in israel as bars (beersheva) yarns for cows and sheeps in galili and other areas.let alone ripping the new tastement in the knesset.then, who brought those migrants to israel?.
37. How are they able to get into the synagogs?
Israeli ,   Haifa   (08.28.12)
Are the synagogs abandoned? Are they unlocked? Is no one guarding them? Is no one using them? How are they able to get into them and use them "as a bar" or a toilet? This accusation sounds fishy and made up to me.
38. To No.30 and others
Bertram ,   London, UK   (08.28.12)
I think over the years the evidence from talkbacks regarding these issues suggests that there is almost a complete absence of dialogue. We all argue from our own 'knowledge', beliefs and assumptions - and I include myself as well - and that is where we finish! Contrary to those who have hurled abuse at me I am pro-Israel and vehemently oppose anyone who would wish to destroy the country. The difficulty comes with what it means to be pro-Israel. I happen to think that constant tirades against immigrants (legal / illegal) and 'foreigners' potentially contribute to Israel's destruction because those tirades undermine the moral fabric of society - and, as history bears out, a country without a moral fabric will eventually disappear. I happen to think that Israel's current and future existence as the Jewish national home depends on political maturity and wisdom, not on demonising Arabs and Muslims, treating others as inferior, deportations and a capacity to smash other peoples into oblivion. I recognise the genuine feelings of those who disagree. I am only too aware of our history of persecution and genocide and how that has helped shape Zionism. I am simply saying we do not free ourselves by imitating the worst in humanity - and that goes not just for Israel but for the UK, the US, Iran ......etc. I do not expect support for these 'naive' views from the 'realists' among you. I first came to Israel many decades ago and have lost count of the number of visits since that time - and, despite the title of its national anthem, hope can sometimes be quite depressing.
39. #34 zionist forever - your hypocracy has no limits
Haim ,   TA   (08.28.12)
What a joke, first you say that TA Mayor Ron Huldai says that its not his synagogues are not his concern its a matter for religious affairs ( which is true) and if he was to internvene in anyway regarding the cities synagogues you would be the first to start screaming " those nasty seculars are interfearing with religous matters" . Tel aviv is a city of freedom and tollerence i suggest you and your ilk stay in Jerusalem where you belong or better still Tehran.
40. government is not doing anything serious about the illegals
zionist forever   (08.28.12)
The government talks alot about doing something about the illegals but does very little. There was talk of detention centres that could hold tens of thousands but the one nearing completion that has just been built and paid for by taxpayers is going to hold just 1200. We already have about 60,000 here and there is an average of 3000 new ones coming every month and government is spending alot of tax money to house 1200 of them. All we do is here lots of speeches by Eli Yishai which are very often correct when it comes to this issue and Bibi makes lots of promises but then when it comes to action they do zip.
41. So if Eli Yishai says it.......
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (08.28.12)
......then it must be true? Come on people, don't fall into the trap. This man's reputation precedes him. He's merely augmenting the hate campaign up to the next level, playing on people's emotions. He's just despicable. Ignore him.
42. It is a police matter...
Yerushalmi ,   Jerusalem   (08.28.12)
...only police can evict squatters, punish vandals and secure a building. Is Ron Huldai suggesting we should have a police force under jurisdiction of ministry of religious affairs authorized to use violence and make arrests? Like in Iran?
43. Yishai's Agenda
leo ,   nyc   (08.28.12)
Is not hidden-he does want to stir up emotions in S. Tel Aviv He won;t be satisfied until there are riots there again. He is a disgrace, period!
44. Shame!!!
Vladimir ,   Yerushalayim   (08.28.12)
The response of the Tel Aviv municipality to Eli Yishai's plea is a shame! They simply don't care for the synagogues and other Jewish sites and symbols. Annihiliation of the Jewish culture does not bother them. The Jews are banished. This proves that Tel Aviv is no longer a Jewish city and Israel is no longer a Jewish country... We, the real Jews, should look for some other place on the map. Maybe Birobidzhan or Uganda.
45. #39 You're putting words in ZF's mouth.
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (08.28.12)
Words he did not say. What he said, specifically, was that Ron Huldai is wrong. The financial upkeep of synagogues (what little of it exists from public coffers) is in the hands of the Religious Affairs Ministry. When it comes to day to day requirements and even basic security, however, it's a matter of the regional council. You can pretend that the person speaking to you is an evil religious zealot (TM), and thus not worthy of your concern, but that won't change the facts - the facts remain that this is a neighborhood that is a part of Tel Aviv, and the synagogues in it are a part of Tel Aviv. And there are specific segments of Tel Aviv, to which you appear to belong to, which interpret "freedom and tolerance" in a manner which basically translates to "Take your Judaism elsewhere". By ignoring the needs of religious Jewish residents of Tel Aviv, and by ignoring an entire *part* of Tel Aviv altogether, the message seems to be "Tel Aviv is for the Enlightened." "And for the tourists. The rest of you can leave."
46. MORE IDIOCIES FROM RACIST YISHAI
(08.28.12)

50. #2
reason ,   sa   (08.28.12)
having a jewish or christian name does not make you a believer, just as having a muslim name does not make you one. come on SarahB just a little less ignorance would make a world of a difference.
51. Phil USA
reason ,   sa   (08.28.12)
Good point & well done Phil, unfortunately when hatred runs that deep not much fact is required & no amount of reason can persuade.
52. To the editor
Barry ,   Tucson, USA   (08.29.12)
Why is it no matter how many times I send a comment that is in no way offensive it is never shown. I am expecting this one will also be ignored but if it gets posted here follows my comment. 1. Most of the Eritrean refuges are in fact christian, which is something I know for a fact after living with Eritreans for more than 30 years. 2. Just as a reminder this people were one of the few people to give Jews shelter during some of the hardest times in our history without a single organized racist attack for more than a thousand years
53. #38 bertram - a well written post
