That sewer is as anti-Semitic as it ever was.
2. Radical Mosques produced Mohamed Atta. Leftist
PETER SM ,   MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA   (09.03.12)
accademics regard Hezballa and Hamas as progressive They can't think straight, they think in absolute terms and anarchy. Meanwhile Germany has an ongoing Islamist security problem
3. Has Germany ever been a close Ally?
Sarah B   (09.03.12)
Much the same as the United Kingdom, there is such a thing as holding out a hand in friendship without actually giving a hug. Germany cannot for historical reasons be outrightly hostile to Israel, but paying blood money doesn't make it friends either
4. Confusing article
Igor ,   Germany   (09.03.12)
The article presents arguments for both sides: Germany being pro- and anti-Israel, but, unfortunately, leaves the reader undecided. The way I see it from Germany, the German public is strongly anti-Israel (and antisemitic). The politics is maybe more neutral, not out of conviction, but as a practical matter of whitewashing the German past. I expect the relationship to further deteriorate.
5. Will Germany support an Israeli attack against Iran?
Devorah   (09.03.12)
If not, they are no ally.
6. Friends or ally's?
tiki ,   belgium   (09.03.12)
In politics there are no morals, friends and only strategic alliances. Germany was a 'temporary ally because of guilt. Now as the main financier of Europe, it has to defend it's own interests. As history shows Germans & Europeans never could be counted as friends of the Jews, this is not a big surprise. If it includes staying friends with the most dispicable regimes in the ME, because of oil, so be it. If it means selling to Iran for financial reasons, despite a boycot, that's no problem either. The only thing that counts in politics is money and get re-elected!
7. NEWSFLASH: The US is NO LONGER a close ally.
EZ ,   US/Israel   (09.03.12)
Obama bailed on Israel as skeptics thought he would. Those skeptics were 100% correct in their assertions and beliefs: Obama is anti-Israel and NEVER should be trusted (well, that's an understatement now). Although Merkel and the EU doesn't think much of Obama (I mean, who, aside from left wing sheeple DO think anything good about the guy?), that doesn't mean we should trust them either. Israel needs to learn NEVER to trust an outside nation when it comes to its security: we will always be left standing alone. So be it. All of those who have screwed Israel and the Jews should burn in hell for eternity. Their karma should visit them NOW and relentlessly. Am Yisrael Chai.
8. Allies
Thomas ,   Tel-Aviv, Israel   (09.03.12)
Its very interesting to note that the Bibi baby is the common denomator for all these fall outs with our "up to now friends". So clearly Bibi has at minimum a big time communication problem with the worlds leaders . I wonder why ??????????????????????

10. real friends
peter ,   tel aviv   (09.03.12)
real friends will tell you things you don't like to hear sometimes. So does Germany . To jump up and claim antisemitism is of course the easiest solution for Israel but maybe we should sit back and think where the criticism comes from. Bibi and his stooges act as if there is only Bibi and his solutions. Any criticism is left wing anti Zionist antisemitic. If we would act more according to the norms we demand from the rest of the world maybe we would be appreciated more. We have Yishay who wants to deport and incarcerate the migrants because of their color and origin yet when yeshivas don't want to accept Sephardi students its blatant racism. We decry female circumcision as barbaric (rightly though) yet any questioning of male circumcision is antisemitic racism. The list goes on. We have to accept that to live in a community we have to take as well as to give.
11. One thing is quite clear, the current Israeli
israel israeli   (09.03.12)
Government was able to turn its best freinds and allies against her, US, Germany and Turkey are just small example of it.

Igor ,   Germany   (09.03.12)
By that token, Germany is not a real friend of France because it NEVER criticizes it in public. Israels adheres more to the norms than any other country in the world. Just imagine if Israeli drones massacred Palestinian weddings (as Americans do in Afghanistan) or 70 civilians collecting fuel (as Germany did in Afghanistan)! Imagine Israeli soldiers shooting 20 unarmed civilians to death (as France did in Abidjan)! Etc. Yishai does not deport immigrants because of their color or origin, but because they have entered and have been staying in Israel illegally. Same as Germany does, btw. I've never heard of "female circumcision". Concerning female genital mutilation, I have yet to see it done for medical reasons, or to read a scientific study recommending it for all newborn girls.
13. #11 One thing is clear
Igor ,   Germany   (09.03.12)
Israel has never had real friends, but it took the current Israeli government to unmask the false friends.

claus ,   jerusalem   (09.03.12)
well done peter: in essence israel is still an archaic society in many aspects. Right wing politicians prostitute themselves to religious extrimists in order to secure majorities in parliament and driving the society into poverty, intolerance and war. Poltics in israel look always for the "other" to blame (like hungarians). There is no political vision ,no intellectual vision . Its management by improvisation. Israels tycoons rob the public of pension funds, religious leaders incite against africans, ethopians and 'non believers". Crime is rampant ,police understaffed and vastly overstrechted, courts and judges under threat .Corruption is widespread and society ,including youth, dangerously violent. A whole society on the brink of collapse. The one eyed are leading the blind.

...and we get nothing back. "Gentiles were born only to serve us. Without that, they have no place in the world – only to serve the People of Israel." -- former Sephardi Chief Rabbinate of Israel, Ovadia Yosef

21. It’s the occupation …
Ludwig ,   Berlin, Germany   (09.03.12)
Within the Green Line Germany is Israel’s ally, plain and simple. Beyond the line, there are serious conflicts of interest with a Greater Israel, which proves itself unable to disengage from the Palestinians, apparently wants to continue their disfranchisement indefinitely and seems determined to push the Settlement Project into a dead end.
22. the occupation#21
Ron ,   melbourne australia   (09.04.12)
Ludwig, the Arabs never accepted the 1947 UN partition, the green line is not a border, the arabs kept attacking Israel before 1967, the legal borders were outlined in the San Remo Conference 1920, drafted into International Law with the League of Nations. What is it you don't understand? But facts can never get in the way of your blind ignorance.

24. Germany an ally?
Teelin ,   Vancouver, Canada   (10.07.12)
So depends what a country expects of their allies. Israel is not the only country that finds Germany a non-compliant ally. Just like Canada, Germany would not go to Iraq and it rather cooled relations with the US under the Bush government. There is no doubt that Germany will send troops and military aid if one of their allies is attacked on their own territory. Participating in a preemptive attack outside an ally's territory is quite another matter. In this stance Germany is not uncommon and rather aligned with that of a lot of EU Nations, such as Ireland, Danmark, France, etc If peace for Israel and its neighbours is just a distant hope in the very far future - what more can Israel's allies do to insure its future until such time when ideological lines are less hardened? One wonders about the protocols of the Cold War, where East and West had warheads pointed at each other for decades and yet maintained some sort of semblance of peace. Is that an alternative for Israel? Trouble is, one doesn't get the impression that Israel's enemies are even interested in keeping their people alive. They seem far too happy dying and feeding their children to war. (Always a bad sign the whole child soldier thing ...) Then there is the concern that this article didn't mention at all and that worries a lot of people that would like to see Israel existing 200 years down the road ... the population numbers ... they are not in Israel's favour ... the Jewish-Israeli birth rates and Palestinian birth rates aren't even close to equal. This matters quite a lot - possibly more than military realities. The article also mentions the insensitivities of leftist German intellectuals towards the Israel-Palestinian conflict. That part is absolutely spot on. I don't think any of the teens that sported a PLO scarf as a fashion statement in Germany during the 80s had a clue. Left leaning youth in Germany had some serious confusion: They wanted to be pacifist, but lived in a Cold War where foreign troops secured their freedom. They wanted to disown the Nazis and start afresh, but they were surrounded by former Nazis who all claimed "they did not know." America which showed enormous generosity towards Germany post WWII was busy undermining socialist government in the Americas. Growing up in post WWII, Cold War Germany means not knowing who to trust. Nobody seems quite honourable.
