1. He was an illegal alien and an auto thief!
jason white ,   afula,israel   (09.06.12)
His family should have paid the owner of the car , the hospital and the police. If someone is an illegal, they should have no rights. and there should be no compensation to them and or their families.

"If someone is an illegal, they should have no rights" well they do, that is one of the advantages and traits of a civilized society, if you wish to regress back to something more primitive then that is your choice but I think you will find that you are in a minority
3. They deserve 10 yrs jail...
Yosi ,   Israel   (09.06.12)
..and even with kippot, shame on you.
4. What they did was illegal and stupid but that is a lot of
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (09.06.12)
money for the death of an illegal alien thief. The hospital released him to two police officers, who could they trust more than that even though the police officers turned out to be untrustworthy?
5. BTW- The officer did it because
Cohen,Israel   (09.06.12)
The detention facility, which he was ment to pass the inmate, was full and they refused to take the inmate. The officer didn't know what to do with the Palestinian so eventually he left him on the side of the road. Still very foolish act of him, but it is important to give all the detail of the story...
6. Why so little money? Give them more
Doc on borderline ,   Oslo, Norway   (09.06.12)
As soon as the poor palestinian was on the israeli soil Israelis must treat him well: feed him, provide medical service, clothing, car service, cash
7. Send a copy of the judgment to the Corries...
Steve ,   Atlanta USA   (09.06.12)
...who have no clue as to what constitutes a legitimate lawsuit.
8. As the Israeli justice is fair , Israel will prevail
Yousef ,   Palestine , Hebron   (09.06.12)
I hope that all the Arab brothers behave and do justice like their Israeli cousins so as to live in peace

They deserve a medal, not jail. He was a criminal, and Israel should have no obligations whatsoever to criminals who would want nothing more than the destruction of Israel. Are you not seeing the sickness in this? Israel is to pay money to enemies who would gladly butcher and tear Israelis into pieces. Disqusting. Although it was unresponsible, at the moment of his capture he should be put to jail instead of being sent around everywhere.

"but I think you will find that you are in a minority" Sure, let's make a survey in Israel questioning people whether or not palestinian criminals should be well fed, get free housing and free hospital care OR thrown out. I'd be surprised if not a significant majority voted for them to be thrown out. It's common sense.

Do you know nothing of the basic contents of our peoplehood? Do you not know that time and again the Torah says: "You shall not oppress a stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt?" Yes, the man was an illegal alien and maybe even a potential terrorist. But we have no way of knowing the latter. What we do know is that he was a human being in our care -- the care of Jews -- and unable to care for himself. He was treated as disposable and discarded. People, created in the divine image, are not disposable. The two officers got off very lightly for what, at best, might be considered negligent homicide. I would say that what they did was unthinkable -- except, of course, they did it.

Courts aren't established to ab initio do justice. And maybe thank God for that. Courts are established to decide disputes. The courts are available to all who petition them. If you've suffered any level (even indirect) of loss, petition them. You live on a planet where grown women who spill coffee on themselves can get a $2 million judgement from MacDonalds. Take that ball and run with it. PS: the insurance company who indemnified the car-owner's loss has the subrogated right to petition to get some of that 875,000. But unlike you, they aren't going to have some whine with their קוטג' They're going to hire a junk-yard-dog lawyer.
