1. Not invariably but mostly correct. The Rabinnate a lot to
PETER SM ,   MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA   (09.07.12)
answer for, Tzohar is hope for a change for the better. Absolute power corrupts in many ways
2. vis a vis islam
Beary White ,   Norway   (09.07.12)
'said with a few words; The rabbinate is working to get all the jews back to Israel in unity and wait for the 1000 years of peace which islam does not allow., and the islamic spirit is to spread the islamic violent cult onto the rest of the world? The latter looks to be the problem..
3. Tzohar, if heeded, could save the Rabbinate
Dati Leumi Jew ,   Israel   (09.07.12)
Otherwise, it's history.
4. The only revolution required
Sagi   (09.07.12)
is the dissolutoin of the institution known as "The Chief Rabbinate". It is in no way connected to our history or traditions and is a modern invention which has given power together with the Ministry for Religious Affairs. This power is used to poison and brainwash the minds of young people and turn them into zombies. It is also used to coerce and demand political status which in turn is used to control the lives of citizens who otherwise have no interest in this type of nonsense. The ever increasing religiosity of Israel, and in particular the political power that goes with it, will be her downfall.
5. Finally
Roman ,   IL   (09.07.12)
Ok, we have seen this type of articles in the publication but what has changed? Haredi don't read Yediot Ahronot, hello! Unless our top government reinforces the necessity of Tal Law Change and compromise a purely political (not ideological) coalition game we will be separated. Tzohar is way too weak to change Chief Rabbinate machine and we don't want to wait until we segregate into two different people (secular and haredi) so when new primaries come along, we all need to know who to ask the future candidates.. May all of us find wisdom in deciding fate for our country!
6. Sorry Rabbi that's not enough
Avramele   (09.07.12)
The good well meaning rabbi speaks for one stream of Israelis. The orthodox rabbinate can speak to all but can never speak for all. Separate religion from the state, allow secular marriage, and let a thousand religious and secular streams bloom. THAT will create dialog, tolerance and greater understanding.
7. Like a Golden ring in a Swine's nose...
Jay Abouaf ,   Jaffa, Israel   (09.07.12)
The arrogance of spirit within the Rabbinate, and their misuse of the Halacha to oppress US, our converts, our brides and grooms, our soldiers, brings to mind the above saying: "like a golden ring in the nose of a swine"
8. Yes but grater reform needed
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (09.07.12)
Israel should be a country for ALL Jews therefore the governing body for religious affairs should include representatives of all the religious streams
9. So true!
Ze'ev ,   Nbg, germany   (09.07.12)
well written! Time to act!
10. Opposite ends of the Israeli spectrum cannot be reconciled
Eli   (09.07.12)
The rabbinate might not like it, but to some Israelis, God is anathema.
11. The tzohar remarks
Amos ,   Vancouver Canada   (09.07.12)
Dear sirs . I want to make few remarks: 1). I am happy to see some recognition from the religious community that they antagonize the the secular jews . 2). After 2000 year of praying "next year in Jerusalem" God sent his favorite people the seculars to come back to jerusalem and found the state of Israel 3). Most of the people whom god saved in the holocoust were seculars who Run away and fought the nazis with the partizans or foreign armies. 4). The ultra orthodox found themselves a new job . praying for the state of Israel . The whole religious establishment is a big parazite on the state of Israel . 5). The ultra orthodox think that they are better then Joshua and the rest of the judges , king David, the maccabim , all the students of Rabi Akiva etc. all of whom served in the army . 6). I wonder who gave the rabis the right to talk for God , do they have a special connection to him ? The only reason I can think of is that they presured the Israeli polititions to give them the right to speak for God. These polititions who care about nobody except their chairs. yours truly amos

14. # 10 Eli
Sagi   (09.07.12)
Anathema is a very strong word. I cannot think at this moment of a stronger word in the English language but if I could I would use it. Some of the words that do come to mind would be censored.
15. Tzohar Rabbis
Joan Zia Kahn ,   Metar, Israel   (09.07.12)
May they succeed. We desperately need them before the gap widens even more! ישר כח!

17. Why no Sephardi Rabbis in Tzohar?
S Judah ,   Jerusalem   (09.07.12)
18. How should this work?
Efraim ,   Virginia   (09.07.12)
What do you expect when some jews despise other jews and treat them badly?
19. not the same experience at all!
Miriam ,   Zurich   (09.07.12)
I converted in Israel and just had wonderful experiences with the rabbanut in Jerusalem. Everyone was very welcoming and just trying to help. Mikvah was a also great and since there I am not missing a month. It's all about attitutes. Some secular Israeli just simply have their minds sets about the 'dossim' and this is maywe why they might get an negative reaction.
20. Bring back the lenient rabbis of Rishonim era.
Mike ,   Haifa   (09.07.12)
I completely agree with what you say should be the goal of the rabbinate. But how is Tzohar going to reform this organization? What are yiur plans and programs?? we should create the common grounds for various groups by bringing in the Halachic decisors of previous generations who have issued lenient rulings on issues. Haredization of the halachah world is dangerous to Israel.
21. This week's Parsha (Ki Tavo): Dt. 27.19
Israeili Jew ,   Israel   (09.08.12)
22. ABOLISH the "rabbinate"
nadav ,   ej   (09.08.12)
there is NO reason why the overwhelming majority of citizens must be subjected t o the repression of a remnant, medieval superstitous fanatic sect of so called "Orthodox" Judaism! SEPARATE RELIGION FROM STATE NOW!
23. Khilulei haSheim n Ultra-Orthodox, not n Rabanut per se
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (09.09.12)
Vanquish the guilty, don't throw out the baby with the bathwater.
24. 14 Sagi-blaming Creator of Universe 4 sins of Ultra-Orthodox
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (09.09.12)
isn't very bright thinking You can do better
25. to2
moslema   (09.09.12)
islam is a religion not a culture it is so simple so easy but so large and you can be whatever be in islam violent or smart or whatever you want becouse it is so simple to be moslem so easy to live and be in any place so large to behave then god will judge evry one alone depends on his doing
26. # 4 Sagi for PM
Haim ,   TA   (09.09.12)
Lets not forget the monopoly the rabbinute has on all aspects or religion, denying secular people their democratic right to freedom of choice in all aspects of life, marriage, death and so on. Lets face it, its all about the money.
27. No word about the Reform Movement-Conservatives-ah
