1. Let us remind the member states of the UN, and the General
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (09.08.12)
Secretary of this organization, one more time of a number of fundamental elements in international law related to this matter: 1) UN Security Council Resolution, 242, of Nov. 1967 is designed to resolve the Arab Israeli conflict, and it assumes such a resolution will be the outcome of direct negotiations between the parties. But, in no place in 242 is there a call for the setting up of an additional state between the Jordan River and the Med. Sea, nor does 242 even make reference to concepts such as "Palestine", "Palestinians" or a "Palestinian state". 2) The reason: 242 is based on UN Charter, Article 80, 1945, which adopts the decisions of the League of Nations of 1922, and whose language is that of the San Remo conference decisions, 1920. These fundamental elements of international law related to the Arab Israeli conflict assign the territory located between the Jordan River to the Med. Sea as "the national home for the Jewish people", with no national rights there but to the Jewish people (the rest of "Palestine", 77% of it in fact, had been handed over to the Arabs in 1921 and they renamed it Jordan). 3) If the UN wishes to increase the level of disrespect people have for this organization that truly could have been a leading force behind peace making if it only adhered to international law, its members should not mock international law, again, for political/economic expediency. Both its member state and its General Secretary should respect the UN Charter and the resolutions which are part and parcel of international law.
2. Why shouldn't the Palestinians do this?
esse   (09.08.12)
Israel has left them no choice. And if the Palestinians don't succeed in their ugrade bid this year, they can try again next year. And if it fails next year, then the year after...Eventually, they'll get what they want at the UN. And when it happens, they can join the ICC. And when that happens, Israeli military officials will begin to get indicted. And when Israel refuses their extradiction, sanctions will be imposed. Now normally the US would either veto or use its weight to block such actions. But the US (led by Obama in his second term) will probably decide to sit back and let Israel get its comeuppance. All Israel had to do was either do what needed to be done to give the Palestinians a state OR not be such immature children in defying Obama's simple wishes. But Israel was too stupid to do either. And now the wheel of karma will come around and smack Israel in the face. How not surprising that such an immature nation has so quickly self-destructed.
3. PS to # 1: Note, the September 1995 Bilateral Agreement...
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (09.08.12)
...between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) clearly consider a move such as that of the PLO to the UN as contradictory of the agreement, one that was signed by the parties and in the presence, thus agreement, of the UN, EU, US and Norway. Going back on that agreement would be an added mockery of international law and bilateral international agreements. And, if that is so, few would ever have the respect needed to continue and maintain the concept of international law and the turs in any agreements. Therefore, the UN ought to tell the PLO's representative: Go to the negotiating table now, where Israel has been sitting and waiting for you for years, and negotiate peace without any preconditions, as you committed to do when Israel permitted you to set up the Palestinian Authority and bring in soldiers and weapons.
4. To: No. 2
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.08.12)
Well, for starters, membership in the United Nations is restricted to nations. It is a gross violation of international convention and law that the ersatz "Palestinians" were even granted "observer" status. Now, how can an international body whose membership is -- by U.N. charter -- limited to nation states admit an entity as a "non-member state?" Although, if it hastens the demise of the United Nations -- long overdue -- then I'm all for it. But if you keep making exceptions, the exceptions will eventually overcome the rules. And then validity and international credibility fly out the window, and what you are left with rather resembles today's United Nations -- a useless and ineffective organization. Do you think that was its original purpose? It wasn't. Once upon a time, the United Nations was a force for good. That is no longer the case.
5. #2 Warped reasoning
A ,   Belgium   (09.08.12)
Rest assured, there will never be a "palestinian" state. The two terrorist leaders of Fatah and Hamas couldn't even stand being in the same room together, even at the Iranian monkeys invitation. And why shouldn't Israel defy a provenly hostile presidents wishes, is he also president of Israel? What were his so called wishes anyway? I'm happy to disappoint you, that there will never be a "palestine" since it is economically not feasible (they said so themselves, the only "industry" coming out of the arab areas is terror, they have convinced even their arab "bretheren" that they are nothing more than beggars looking for handouts instead of taking steps to build a country that is ready to live in peace with its neighbors. And everytime Abbas the clown announces he is going to ask for an upgraded status at the UN, he postpones it. Now explain how Israel has self destructed, before mommy sends you off to bed?
6. Time to get rid of Abbas
Avi ,   USA   (09.08.12)
Israel needs to get rid of Abbas start stressing there are no palestinians. They are arabs. Give Gaza back to egypt and have jordan control the west bank Arab areas. Peace with so called Ex terrorists has fialed time to remove them and move on. No two state solution.
7. Moslem bloc run UN farce would pass earth is flat
PETER SM ,   MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA   (09.08.12)

9. #4 - to be fair
Henry from New York ,   Under the Tuscan Sun   (09.08.12)
The Palestinians could possibly qualify as a nation as they do have a national identity now (recently cobbled together though it may be). They're just not a nation-state. Also, why are you posting during Shabbat? I thought you never did that. Is this the imposter?
10. #6 Agree

12. "Palestinians" not enough in the news lately?
tiki ,   belgium   (09.08.12)
"Who cares about the failed Arab spring, the Iran nukes, the thousands of death & refugees from Syria, the World's financial crises and other calamaties, when I, the one & only president of the "Palestinians" should be in the daily Headlines & Breaking News with mine, I mean our 'sorrows. "Problems, problems, problems. Never enough money, can't pay our terrorists, I mean functionaries". "Promises, promises, promises by our Arab brothers, but commitments nada". No, the only thing that works is to threaten our EUS dummies that we want our own state and they are guilty that we don't have it. Guilt always works with those sentimental fools and they will send us our much needed cash to continue our blackmail.
13. Another PLO violation of OSLO
Chaim Ben Kahan ,   Efrat, Israel   (09.09.12)
Enough is enough, theses are declarations of war by the PLO on Israel and it's time Israel annexes all of Eastern Israel and move towards genuine peace. Two state solution continues to be code word for Israel's destruction.
14. To @2 .esse
Jusanz77. ,   Vzla.   (09.09.12)
To @ 2. esse.   I guarantee that all evil apocalyptic, you will prognostic Israel. Are negligible compared with thousands of rockets flying over major cities in Israel from JudeaSamaria. We have 64 years of hearing false prophets like you, failure after failure. If we lived in the time of the Tanakh, you deserve to death by stoning. Luckily for you and a few other commentators, we are in the XXI century. Do not put your vain hopes in a man-Obama, in order to fulfill your false prophecy. Jeremiah. 17.5. Thus says the LORD: "Cursed is the man who trusts in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departs from the Lord. "It seems that Obama wins or loses his presidency, like it or not you. Israel will be, which is, like it or not you. Greetings.
15. Repeat of USS Liberty false flag op, to pull US into war
Steven Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (09.09.12)
..with Iran, so it becomes America's war, not Israel's.

Steven Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (09.09.12)
17. Israel will ignore all international bodies, annex Area C
Steven Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (09.09.12)
...wait for a US Republican President to save them from UN sanctions in 2016, or 2020, ... And start a few wars along the way to justify their behavior. Israel will never give up Jewish control of the West Bank, and will continue to find ways to rid themselves of the Palestinian population.
18. Let the terrorist P.A. collapse.
Chaim ,   Israel   (09.09.12)
Without massive Israeli support, the terrorist P.A. could not exist. Israel insanely supplies these genocidal terrorists with money, electricity, materials of all types.... Absolute lunacy. No other state, in all human history, has voluntarily supported it's mortal enemies. Let the terrorist P.A. collapse.
19. This is the real reason.
SD Charger ,   San Diego   (09.09.12)
Abbas watched as the DNC boo'ed G-d, Jerusalem and Israel at their convention. Realizing what they had done on tv, Obama HAD to mention them when it was his turn to speak, or forfeit his election bid. It IS that simple people and Abbas was grinning from ear to ear when it happened. Fortunately, over 70% of Real American's support G-d, Jerusalem and Israel and will NEVER allow Palestine to actually have Jerusalem as their capital. Abbas and the Democrats can deny Jerusalem all they want, but G-d chose Jerusalem as his city and NO ONE will ever change that fact.
20. #16 - Still on his disinformation tangent
BEN JABO (MACHAL) ,   ISRAEL   (09.09.12)

solomon ,   bklyn   (09.10.12)
The arabs have started every war, broadcast that their aim is to kill all the Jews, and run away every time there is a chance for peace.  They are the immature children of whom you [esse] speak. You know all that, but choose to ignore the facts.  Just like the arabs. Read some history; then post.

A fancy name for spying, America spies on everyone, friend & foe alike.. It has been so since BEFORE the American Revolution When it comes to spying on her friends America has been accused of illegally spying on hundreds of people in Norway, Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Iceland. It called for detailed biometric information "on key UN officials, to include undersecretaries, heads of specialised agencies and their chief advisers, top SYG [secretary general] aides, heads of peace operations and political field missions, including force commanders" as well as intelligence on Ban's "management and decision-making style and his influence on the secretariat". A parallel intelligence directive sent to diplomats in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi said biometric data included DNA, fingerprints and iris scans.
