1. it would have been an investment for a variety of reasons

It would have been great for navel training also would have made for good regular training exercises with the Greeks which would have been especially useful in things like submarine warfare. It would be an ideal place for an airbase once again we could hold regular exercises with the Greeks but more importantly it would leave us with a place where we could store aircraft. We live in a missile age and Israel is a tiny country and so could very easily find itself in a position where the runways are all bombed leaving us without any airpower which makes us sitting ducks. At least if we kept some of our older planes in reserve on a Greek island we owned or were leased we could keep some of the planes safe away from the enemy missiles so they could be recalled if the runways were destroyed. Even if we don't lease or buy an island we should at the very least request the Greek government who also use F16s to let Israel maybe rent a small airbase where we can store some older aircraft and hold exercises with the Greeks.
2. What if Iranians offer more for the Greeks?
Simo ,   Helsinki, Finland   (09.12.12)
Israeli politicians must be permanently drunk to publish these kind of ideas. Greeks will love this island buying offer, but not in the way Israelis believe.

Wow,who said the jews were smart is kidding him/her self into deadly oblivion. Unless Israelis have some trick up their sleeve to randomly annhialate or befriend neighbors or strong party Israel has no future in their framework. buy the islands

arne ,   chicago usa   (09.13.12)
somethings wrong--this cannot be true--israel would certainly jump at an offer like this--somethings not right about this article I would bet
7. Greek sovereignty
Dan ,   KS   (09.14.12)
The island would still be in Greece and they could confiscate the boats and weapons at will. Why would they want to be a base for various countries base armies in their territory? What if Iran bought and island, and Israel bought an island - would the Hellenic courts be able to solve the neighborly disagreements?
