1. Romney received same treatment here as Obama in 2008
Ehud   (09.13.12)
In 2008 candidate Obama visited Israel and was - as any American Presidential candidate - received by the Israeli President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and Defense Minister. Remnick didn't complain then. Netanyahu never aligned himself with Romney and has never - neither in English, nor in Hebrew - said anything about Romney. This buzz is generated by the obsession of editorial writers who are absorbed by the US elections and don't know shit about what is customary in Israel.
2. Unfortunately Obama is incompetent
Ilan   (09.13.12)
The reality is that sanctions took too long to get into place and that Iran is forging ahead. Clinton announced that there are no red lines and no sense of urgency in the US regarding Iran's nuclear schedule. If the US were able to accomplish something with Iran and North Korea it would be enough to deter Israel from acting alone. All it takes is leadership. The whining about Netanyahu's ties with Republicans is out of place. The US administrations have always cultivated ties with non-Likud politicians and what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.
3. Translation Vote Obama because Remnic wants him
PETER SM ,   MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA   (09.13.12)
Arguments like reactionary are a dead giveaway. Very trench left wing polemic
4. Remnick an ingenuous journalist
Norbus ,   Jerusalem   (09.13.12)
He conveniently ignores the true intent of Arabs to destroy Israel for a start not least given Jordan and the huge landmass of Arab countries Unbalanced as he says Natanyahu who believes Israel is under existential threat brought about by several acts by a biased president , is taking risks with the future of Israel. Is Bibi supposed to lie down and let Iran nuke Israel, or the Ikhwan who now surround us, over run us? Arabs want a land piece not peace.
5. And David Remnick is voting for Obama.
Ezra ,   San Diego USA   (09.13.12)
What else is David Remnick going to say? The hypnotized never lie. If Netanyahu and Romney are "united and profoundly cynical," then I'm voting for their form of cynicism! Enough of Obama and his czars undermining the U.S. Constitution!
6.  He wrote a book about Obama, he is just protecting his own
Abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (09.13.12)
interests by attacking Netanyahu and favoring Obama. His book he wrote about Obama is the reason he protects Obama and ensures his book's success.
7. Netanyahu speaks the truth, and it does bother some
Abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (09.13.12)
people and some World leaders and especially some news writers. Let's face it, the truth scares many people, and they feel that they may feel safer and better by attacking the messenger, ie: Netanyahu.
8. This is so chutzpah
Sarah B. ,   U.S.A./Israel   (09.13.12)
I am so tired of Americans intervening in our domestic scene. Time to choose new partners, new alliances. Enough with this decadent USA. Let's look East and choose China, India as privileged associations. This is where we should bet our chips... the US is dead. Down with the US.
9. article by New York Times
Nancy ,   United States   (09.13.12)
This article is stupid, and I'm sorry someone this ignorant would write it. Our country is being systematically demolish by people like this, and this isn't the view by most Americans.
10. only an Israeli lefty
E. G. Marsch ,   Nahariya, Israel   (09.13.12)
like Benhorin would treat another moronic article by Remnick as a headline-maker. Remnick is a limousine-liberal Israel-basher who toes the party line. He has never been woken up at night by a rocket siren. He can take what he writes and cram it.
11. to be precise,
E. G. Marsch ,   Nahariya, Israel   (09.13.12)
Remnick gets paid a million a year to be chauffeured to work and spew party-line drivel.
12. Netanyahu should...
Steve Grumman ,   Tucson, U.S.A.   (09.13.12)
...be careful to avoid appearing to interfere in the American political process. Nothing offends people more than to have foreigners meddle in their country's internal affairs.
13. New Yorker editor Remnick is a. Obama supporter.
Bob K ,   Orlando USA   (09.13.12)
New Yorker editor David Remnick wrote a book on Obama, we are told,, so chances are he voted for him and contributed to his campaigns. He is not objective. It is Obama who has shown his hostility to Netanyahu and Israel itself. Obama and Hilary Clinton portrayed Israel as the main stumbling block to peace but ignored PA head Abbas' refusal to even attend peace talks with Netanyahu or stop praising terrorists as 'martyrs for Islam and Palestine' and for denying that Jews have any historic connections to Israel. Obama smiles in his photo ops with Abbas but looks hostile when with Netanyahu. For Obama and the left,, peace means Israel hands over territory while the Palestinians do nothing for peace. Look at what happened in Gaza. As with many liberals and leftists, Israel's conservative Likud leaders are just like the neo-cons of the Republcan party who the Democrats often hate. Obama went to Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Iraq but could not find time to stop over in Israel. Clearly Obama feels he can snub Netanyahu knowing that the majority of American Jews are Democrats whose votes and donations canbe counted on. Meanwhile he was slow in moving with sanctions against Iran in the past almsot 4 years. How can Israel trust a President who fails to deliver even his domestic promises. Talk is Obama's specialty and talk is cheap. After the Democratic convention fiasco over deleting God and Jerusalem from the party platform, many American Jews are probably re-thinking their support for Obama.
14. Obama's foreign policy is dangerous
Israel   (09.13.12)
Just ask the US ambassador to Libyia and his friends.
15. Obama is the furthest one from being naive
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (09.13.12)
It's all part of his cynical plan of "downsizing" America. Another four years and he will have "downsized" it out of existence altogether.
16. Sounds like bankrupt US press organ banking on shoddy ads
Miron ,   USA   (09.13.12)
17. remnick is a fool: Bibi would love good relations with Obama
rick ,   walnut creek   (09.13.12)
unlike Obama, Bibi is not arrogant, infantile, petty or petulant. he would love great relations with Obama. but Bibi is understandably interested in the credible defense of his people. no reasonable person in his position could be satisfied with vague, gossamer assurances that the iranian regime will not acquire a nuclear weapons capability. and, if it were to? what then? American intelligence has been notoriously inept. the iranians are shrewd, accomplished liars. and, they are far, far, far tougher and more determined than Obama and Clinton. Obama knows about campus politics and Chicago ward intrigues. he is way out of his weight- class in a match with the mullahs. and, what is Obama going to do the day after the iranians complete a bomb? the hardest thing remnick has had to do in his puny life was select a laxative. but even a lagubrious, whiney twit like remnick should be able to put aside his own little life experience and summon some respect for the Israeli PM and the real, consequential challenges with which he is confronted. he should be able to do that. but don't count on it. remnick is a fool.
18. New Yorker editorial
David ,   Beer Sheva, Israel   (09.13.12)
Y-NetNews has reached an all time low by by giving headline coverage to left leaning editorial in a U. S. magazine. When does editorial opinions of a foreign publication take such promenence (and no actual v events)? When a publication scrounges around to find someone saying "yes" to their own misguided view. Very sad to see Y-Netnews sink so low!
19. obama has slyly orchestrated this
alexandra longisland ,   sands point n.y.   (09.13.12)
wait til the debates, romney will be forced to look like a traitor to america and willing to take orderts from israel to sacrifice american boys and girls for jewish campaign money,if you can't see that coming then you are blind, you need to understand that AIPAC is seen as a treasonous org that holds politicians hostage by directing or withholding the donations of 5 million american jews.We are headed for a america first vs israel first showdown
20. not true
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (09.13.12)
Bibi has been able to hold the line with out getting involved in a war. There are risks both ways and Bibi knows it well.
21. Remnick is a nudnick!
Reuven   (09.13.12)
22. #19 - And then we will see whose God is stronger?
Patriotic Israeli ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (09.13.12)
Elijah's God or 95% Christian America's God!!!!!!!
23. The post at No. 8 is not mine.
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.13.12)
24. To: No. 12
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.13.12)
Oh! Do you mean the way the United States meddles in the internal affairs of half the world? It's a cottage industry in the United States. Have you forgotten that?
25. #8 Sarah check again
Lemmings Hotline ,   sd usa   (09.13.12)
Chinese --- uh no they're in bed with Assad and North Korea, India... still buying oil from Iran. but keep trying its good to think about it. What needs to happen is for the leaders to stop talking about it , and get on with whatever they're going to do. I cant imagine Bibi's political career surviving after he made so much noise - and then, did nothing to back it up.
26. @12 Steve
Israella   (09.13.12)
You write: 'Nothing offends people more than to have foreigners meddle in their country's internal affairs' --- Steve, don't you find it rather amazing that almost all countries (foreigners) not only 'meddle' in Israel's internal affairs but also have no compunction in dictating to Israel on internal and security matters?
27. LETTER TO DAVID REMNICK
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED OPERAHOUSE   (09.13.12)
Sir , you are ,of course ,entitled to your opinion . I regard Prime Minister as imperfect ,nevertheless he is doing a sterling job overall in steering Israel on its rather difficult course. May I respectfully suggest you walk a mile in his shoes before criticizing him in order to gain an enhanced understanding and appreciation of the reality here and the enormous and crushing weight of responsibilty which rests on the shoulders of Mr Netanyahu. As for him allegedly " intervening in the US presidential campaign " why not ? In Netanyahus' place / shoes I would do precisely that ,because Obama and Clinton have zero inhibitions when it comes to interfering in other countries' internal or domestic affairs .What is good for the goose etc ..... Netanyahu is a seasoned master politician .Obama ,by comparison is the "cocky " upstart. Please G-d in November he will be thrown on the trash can of history.
28.  TO DAVID REMNICK
DA RAP ARTISTE ,   SAFE OPERAHOUSE   (09.13.12)
Do not write about something you clearly know so little about.Netanyahu is doing just fine .Obama has treated him like dirt and Netanyahu is merely reciprocating . What did you expect ?
29. O.K FOR THE U.S TO INTERVENE
MR CYNIC ,   SAFED OPERAHOUSE   (09.13.12)
So the United States can and does intervene in every country in the world ,including their DOMESTIC internal; politics ,but it is unkosher for others including Prime Minister Netanyahu to do the same ? TAKE A HIKE.
30. I am now soooo confused by Benhorin.
Harry Wright ,   UK   (09.13.12)
I could have sworn that Israel's future was already at risk. I could have sworn too that the only way to reduce that risk was to deal decisively with the Iran, the source of the risk. And I could swear too that the only way Obama would effectively help is if he is dragged kicking and screaming and Bibi has PROVEN it. Now, let us see how he will deal with the Libyian attack. If he can't deal satisfactorily with that, after having left the ME in such a mess, then guess who would be definitely right. So many pundits articulated on his horrible foreign policies and today, we can see how right THEY were and how wrong HE was. Bibi is continually pointing him in the right direction and insisting that he sits down and does his homework but like a rude, headstrong, rebellious, irresponsible and reckless child, he refuses. Well, I wonder if he will press ahead and interfere in Syria's problems or pay attention to Iran.
