1. Shades of Jimmy
M Carr ,   Baltimore, USA   (09.15.12)
I am old enough to remember the debacle of the Jimmy Carter presidency. Unfortunately it appears that Obama is on a parallel path. The big question is will the American voters allow Obama a 2nd term. I certainly hope not.
2. Miraculous equation???
Jusanz77 ,   Vzla.   (09.15.12)
Still, there is no mathematical formula that can be found, in order to fulfill the equation "Islam = democracy". And the winds that blow thousand years passed before a mathematician appears, who found the silver bullet. miraculous equation
3. Either Obama is that stupid...
Taz Man ,   USA   (09.15.12)
...or, he's truly trying to help his Muslim brothers (I choose both options)! The whole Democracy thing (Arab Sping) is a farce and a lie! Anyone with enough sense and some understanding of the region, realizes the whole Muslim Brotherhood thing and their desires of a world-wide Caliphate! Also, once it's completely formed, they all WILL attack Israel enmass! I'm a long-time student of the Bible and its relationship with the region. Obama is a godless FOOL! Don't worry, Israel...you aren't going any where--period! God bless, Israel; praying for the peace of Jerusalem! Christian Zionist
4. Ya… Mr. President, Through Israel under the bus….
Mr. P ,   USA   (09.15.12)
See the return on your investment. Did you learned anything ? NO!! WE NEED A CHANGE.
5. littoral paean
E. G. Marsch ,   Nahariya, Israel   (09.15.12)
This is a really good article. I really like it.
6. Obama DIDN't help. The US has always supported tyranny.
Gunnar ,   Gothenburg, Sweden   (09.15.12)
That's complete rubbish. In the longest, the United States tried to protect the dictators and keep them in power. The billions of dollars in military aid that were sent anually to Egypt are well known. When the game was over for Mubarak and the other crooks, then it was a different ball game of course. You adapt...
7. Arab Spring began in 2002 with invasion of Iraq.
David Turner ,   Richmond, USA   (09.15.12)
Back to 1979 With Carter's "Arab Spring" assist to students in Tehran. Then 1952 When Eisenhower supported "Officers" coup against Farouk (CIA destabilized Egypt to prepare the way). Easy to focus on today because it surrounds us. But context provides clearer picture of underlying US policy!
8. And we want muslims out of Europe, USA and Australia
Thierry Blanc ,   Suisse   (09.15.12)
Muslims must remain in their islamic countries and should not go to western countries.
9. M Carr #1 I too remember all too well
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (09.15.12)
In 1979 I was a translator in the US Army seconded to the NSC. I saw first hand the stupidity of the White House and the outright racism, especially by the State Department. This administration is far worse than the peanut's. They are doing this on purpose
10. They all like our money....
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (09.15.12)
lets withdraw all of that! No foreign aid to Muslim countries.
11. No. 1 Shades of Jimmy
Zallay Copenhagen   (09.15.12)
...... and I too, certainly hope not. Can you imagine just what will become of the entire world. Then again, I'm a believer in the Lord and I doubt very strongly that Obama will get any further than this 1st. term...... at least let's pray he won't! The man is a mess and a very troublesome one at that! He's causing a lot of danger to this world.
12. #6 Gunnar
shreff ,   Vienna VA USA   (09.15.12)
There is not a lot of choice in who you support. Under Islam, only a very strong and brutal dictator can hold the state together. You deal with him, or you undermine him at your peril. Democracy and Islam do not mix, as you are seeing in Sweden. Of course the papers do not talk about what is happening, you have to open your own eyes.
13. We need an ADULT in the WH
Salim ,   Canada   (09.15.12)
Obama will be leaving behind a real mess if he has to pass the job to someone else. It's like a kid in a room full of toys that smashes and scatters everything around and leaves it for an adult to restore order. This is a good analogy to what will happen if Obama gets defeated. Gov. Romney will have to take the mess he leaves and straighten it all out. Not an easy job, but necessary. Please get rid of this disaster called Barak Hussein Obama!!!
14. THIS ARTICLE IS PURE DRIBBLE... THE US DOES NOT CONTROL...
Rafi ,   US   (09.15.12)
... all events in the Mid East. Moslem Brotherhood came to power in Egypt largely on its own steam - not because the US or Obama "allowed" it to... If you think that the US controls or has an on/off button in the White House for the hordes that roam on the streets of Cairo... you are: a) clueless, b) just looking for someone (you don't otherwise like) to blame for the bad weather...
15. Get Out but......
an Arab   (09.15.12)
thanks to the USA and European countries for feeding us, giving us jobs, and tolerating our so-called religion for so long.. Who would have thunk that we could even have tried to murder off those infidels. Shame on us uneducated arabs for thunking such foolihness. But please give us the time to collect all our pounds and dollars together and then we will be gone never to see the back of us again! Now that's what I call real courtesy. They came in rags and return in furs with massive £'s and $'s bank accounts. No Problem..... just pack up your goodies and get the hell out. We don't want or need you --- get it?
16. #7 don't forget
(09.15.12)
Operation Ajax
17. How exactly did the US help the the "Arab Spring?"
spyguy ,   seattle usa   (09.16.12)
In the real world there was NOTHING the US could do to keep the old US puppet dictators in power , NOTHING. The US did NOT "LET" anything happen, but had no way to prevent what happened. All the people complaining need to explain exactly what the US could have done different. When they try they will run right in to the hard wall of reality and discover they are just being delusional. When 300 million people decide to change their governments, there is nothing the US can do.
18. Neither an ally or an enemy...
Merca ,   Barcelona.SPAIN.   (09.16.12)
as it was told by Obama. After years of Egypt becoming the second recipient of USA money, this is the sad conclusion"NEITHER AN ALLY OR AN ENEMY". Apart from that,an excellent article Mr.Bechor.
19. Haven't we all had enough of obama's bungling?
bad Ased Jew ,   United States   (09.16.12)
Time for a real change ... ROMNEY!!!!
20. blindness
michel ,   Ashkelon   (09.16.12)
The islamists realize that the feeding hand is the hand of blind and deaf person, so they don`t risk anything. There is not worse blindness and deafness that of who don`t want to see or ear.
21. To No. 14 - I agree
Bertram ,   London, UK   (09.16.12)
And when the US does attempt to control external events it gets its fingers burnt. All this mindless garbage about Obama is spewed out while forgetting that it was the Reagan doctrine which lent support to the Mujahideen in Afghanistan to counteract Soviet power.
22. #14 and #17 have it right...
esnuffnstl ,   USA   (09.16.12)
It's almost become accepted dogma amongst some here that the US had some kind of control over what happened in Egypt. The truth is the writing was on the wall and Mubarak was toast. If the US would have continued to support him, then the US would currently have absolutely NO influence in Egypt (influence that came in very handy when the US helped Israeli diplomats many months ago--which the author of the article also seems to get wrong.) I suppose it makes some Israelis feel smart by being able to point a finger at someone else for their problems. But it's not, actually, very smart. Oh, and what happened in Libya was by extremists--not the government (which has consistently shown its thanks to America.) In short, the article is such BS that only biased morons would like it.
23. I really like this article!
Chaim ,   Israel   (09.16.12)
24. TO 20
(09.17.12)
it is not blindness nor deaf but they see and hear another thing sure we all eate the same food but have different thoughts
25. Biting the hand that feed you
Gino ,   USA   (09.18.12)
Speaking true of a country that receives $8B a year and work diligently on spying for its secrets
26. Gino #25
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (09.18.12)
Yes but Israel gets only $3 billion and the US gets over $15 billion a year in benefits from Israel and still spys on Israel and arms their enemies to the tune of over $30 billion a year
27. #14The Muslim Brotherhood is even in the WH under ObamaToday
Netanya ,   Netanya   (09.19.12)
There are people in the White House in very sensitive positions who are all from the Muslim Brotherhood: -Mohamed Elibiary, Homeland Security Advisory Committee Member -Rashad Hussein, the special envoy to the Org. Islamic Cooperation - Dalia Mogahed, Senior Analyst and Executive Director at the Gallup Center for Muslim Studies -Huma Abedin, Deputy Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton *I suggest you look up who these people are and where they stand, think, etc. Obama pushed out Mubarak without allowing the other moderate parties to organize. Had he given Mubarak more time, the other political parties would have been able to compete, but none of them were given the time needed. The Brotherhood was the only group who was ready and organized enough to take over, so Obama is definitely the one who is responsible. Don't you remember the Obama Cairo speech, where he gave front seats to those in the Brotherhood?
