Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.16.12)
If sales of weapons to foreign governments is conditioned on Israel's security and on the recipient country's respect for human rights, how is it possible that Germany can sell arms to Saudi Arabia? Has the Saudis' treatment of women somehow escaped Germany's notice?
3. Germans have not changed...
Steve Klein   (09.16.12)
These are the same Germans as we witnessed under the Third Reich. Their attitudes toward Jews have not changed.
4. this sale is good for Israel's national security

Egypt is determined to buy some submarines the Type 209 is a sub designed from the 70s and Germany will sell Egypt a basic off the shelf export model. If Egypt doesn't buy the 209 then they will just go elsewhere and the modern European & Russian diesel electric subs are equal to if not superior to the Dolphins which are based on the 209 but highly modified. Its better for Israel that Germany sell Egypt a dumbed down 209 which they will do at our request rather than letting them go elsewhere for a better sub frm a country where Israel has no influence. Let Germany make their money and Egypt get an inferior submarine good for Israel & good for Germany.

Egyptian people do not need submarines, they need food , jobs and less debt.Submarines cannot feed people. It looks like many economies need to sell weapons.Ban the sale of weapons to the region.

1. Belive it or not, most Germans are not in favor of this deal. There were also demonstrations cause of this. 2. The Israeli government has also no Problem with the deal. They've been asked before. As they've been asked before the sub deal with Egypt. 3. Maybe the US should give Egypt some subs for free as part of your military aid.

Nobody knows what's going to happen next in the M.E. but the germans and americans keep selling planes, submarines and all kinds of sophistaced weaponry that can fall in terrorists hands. Is this an effective way to fight middle eastern terror? Or, is it a devilish plan?
11. Martin @8: US also culpable
Steve   (09.17.12)
The US also sells arms to Israel's enemies to her shame, you are right. The US stood idly by the mass-murder of millions of Jews in Europe. The Americans were not directly responsible for the Holocaust but they essentially looked the other way. Germans were and are directly responsible for this mass-genocide.
12. Nuts..just nuts
M ,   USA   (09.17.12)
Why in the world would Western countries give such weapons to primitive Middle Eastern countries, knowing that down the road, these weapons will be used against the West? Israel isn't at war with the West...Islam is!

Nina ,   NYC   (09.17.12)
"f sales of weapons to foreign governments is conditioned on Israel's security and on the recipient country's respect for human rights, how is it possible that Germany can sell arms to Saudi Arabia?" Human Rights? Do you seriously want Germany to condition arms sales based on human rights? Are you advocating against the sale of arms to Israel?

Iranian Jew ,   LA   (09.18.12)
SUBS. MB is no different than Mubarak. Instead of helping people feed themselves, they are trying to send the money to Germany. I wonder what the commission would be on a sale like that. Barak should know. Someone, please ask him.
