2. Why should American taxpayer support Judaism. Our rule has

been seperation of church and state. Why must jews all make a fuss.

If some one is vegetarian should there request be denied? There should be a seperation of "house of worship" and state, but should that mean someone should be punished for following dietary laws, Hindu, Moslem, Jewish or otherwise.

You picked a poor example Eating vegetarian is relatively easy anywhere. Just avoid the meat/fish and ask if the dishes contain meat products. I ask all the time. Committing a crime is against the tenets of all religions, therefore the criminal/ prisoner is disobeying the commandments of whichever religion s/he practices. Why differentiate? I bet there are many prisoners who realize that by complaining about not getting kosher (or halal or whatever) food (when they never ate kosher food before), they can draw attention to themselves and cause trouble. Prisons should offer no special menus. If the prisoner doesn't like that, he should have thought about that before he committed the crime that landed him in prison in the first place.

'white' man imposes his own rules on others for control. CanNot compare to beliefs and tenets of others.
6. Kosher

Extreme cases make for bad law and bad policy as well. So few Jews in the NV prison system you don't cater to the few and change things for the many. Lots they can eat and merely set aside what they cannot. These folks what they are in prison always seem to find religion they did have outside the "joint".

Ask any vegetarian if they can survive "only" on "no meat", without protein, and with a limited variety of vegetables. The prisons do have a special menu. It is a Christian menu as the US is a Christian country. No such thing as "no special menu."
9. Most everyone in prison says they are innocent. Would you
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (09.23.12)
deny kosher meals to an innocent person? It isn't that hard, someone just has to do a little extra work and there is a lot of extra time in prison.

I grew up a couple of miles from the state penitentiary. When it closed down for good some years ago (it was built during the civil war, so it was about time), I went on a tour of the facility led by one of the former guards. As a non meat eater, I was very interested in the food. The salad bar (sans greenery) was still there, and I was told that peanut butter, that great American protein source, was always available. The prisoners had their own greenhouse, where they grew vegetables for the prison kitchen. I got the impression that all the prisoners (both vegetarian and otherwise) in one of the poorest states in the US ate better than most of their neighbors on the outside. I don't know what this Christian menu you refer to is, but even if pork is served as a main dish (and in the little blue box within this article, I see that there is no pork served at Ohio prisons), there are always other foods to eat at any dinner. This is really a non-issue.
11. I'm an American Tax Payer - Why Not?
Dina ,   USA   (09.27.12)
A NY Times study showed that there are more non-Jews eating kosher than Jews in America. And besides Judaism is a good thing. Maybe this will help rehabilitate prisoners... Have a heart no. 2 are you so perfect?
