1. And No flooding of the country ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.20.12)
They certainly didn't throw all their sins !
2. This might seem childish to Einstein..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (09.20.12)
but in Judaism spirituality is mostly accompanied by acts. That way the ideas are better perceived, understood and memorised. For example,it is thanks to the Pessah Seder that the secular Jews know until now about 3000 years after the facts how Moshe Rabeinu received the Tora. Shana Tova Mevarehet Umetuka to all the talkbackers. P.S I apologise to everybody i did hurt with my comments.
3. No evidence for tashlich before Medieval era
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (09.20.12)
Thus, it's an innovation practiced only by some; not "Judaism."
4. Reply to number 3 'not Judaism'
Danny ,   London England   (09.20.12)
Tashlich is only a custom, and a custom rejected by many great rabbis who preferred to learn on Rosh Hashana afternoon. Others said only women should go to tashlich to avoid mixing of men and women. Like many customs it's as meaningful as you make it.
5. #4 Correct regarding its history, but
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (09.21.12)
It remains a Medieval and European innovation -- assimilation -- whose closest influence would seem to be the influence of Hinduism (and the Ganges) in contradiction to Devarim 13.1 -- as well as the touted prohibition against reform and innovation. It is far removed from either pristine ancient (not Medieval) Torah or its Middle East (not European) original. Torah prohibits such alien innovation.
6. Thanks for the pictures
Ken ,   Ausralia   (09.22.12)
To all those who posted before me, ur all a bunch of twits, all that needs to be said , is thanks for the great shots of people in israel praying by the sea, keep up the good work, Baruch Hashem
7. Danny , try # 3
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.23.12)
This self proclaimed "paqid" is only a non acknowledged "convert" to Judaism , he can't give any name of a TRUE rabbi . He's also a follower of yeshua , AKA jesus . For him only the tora counts , nothing that was added later . Not Jewish at all . Not to forget the way he deceived people with : "ministry of absorption" as heading of his website .
8. Several points to add
Joseph ,   London England   (09.11.13)
If performing tashlich on Rosh Hashana itself one should not throw anythig into the water to feed the fish. One can perform Tashlich until Hashana Rabba, so one might be allowed to throw food on a weekday, although some object. The photos show correctly that if there are large crowds, then men and women should be separated to avoid turning Tashlich into a social event inapropriate for the awesome Day of Judgment. The Vilna Gaon and other Litvish Rabbonim opposed Tashlich because the simple-minded thought you could so easily just cast away your sins, which is nonsense. Tashlich has the meaning we give it.
