Its because G-d owns the cannabis patent...got it, got it!
2. Way To Go Moshe !!!! Spot On !!!
Naftules ,   Jerusalem   (09.20.12)
what you said about making everything illegal makes everything permissable is TRUE !! ... weed is a lighter drug than alcohol and yet when its classified with drugs like heroin, it causes kids who try weed to think maybe also harder drugs arent as bad as everyone says and then they can be more easily willing to try deadly dangerous drugs. its not a gateway drug anymore than alcohol is, its the problem with how people view it, and how this view affects their decisions.

Thessalonian ,   Canada   (09.20.12)
It is my opinion that the use of marijuana by those of age who elect to do so, should be just as legal as the use of tobacco and alcohol are for those of age who elect to do so. Progressive nations such as Canada and the Netherlands, have already decriminalized personal use and personal possession below a given quantity. Prosecuting, fining, incarcerating and or giving ordinary citizens criminal records for simple possession and use is unorthodox, illogical and hypocritical alike. State regulation, similar to alcohol and tobacco, would in fact help increase state revenues through taxation, eliminate criminal activity generated by its production and subsequent distribution and most importantly it would free law enforcement resources to be effectively utilised in the war against real crime rather than perceived. I am not advocating that its use should be promoted and or encouraged, simply because just as tobacco and alcohol use are harmful to one's health so is the use of marijuana. What I am advocating is that marijuana users should be left alone just as alcohol and tobacco users are left alone rather than picked upon and prosecuted as criminals which they are not. Regards

6. Finally, an Israeli Libertarian
David ,   Miami FL   (09.20.12)
Finally, an Israeli Libertarian. Israel is in a desperate need to debark from its communist socialist past which is based on evil masquerading under the guise of humanism and love.
7. Amen!
Dave from Brazil ,   Sao Paulo   (09.20.12)
Drugs should never have been prohibited in the first place. What is needed is education to explain to people the negative effects of drugs, but putting people in jail for using or possessing drugs is simply absurd and is only harmful to society. Rapists, murderers, and thieves, these are the people who should be in jail.
8. How can we sanction legalization of medical cannabis?
(09.20.12)
How can our government allow the consumption of cannabis for medical purposes (under specific circumstances) when the import, growth and sale of the product is illegal? Is our government sanctioning a provision which depends on a criminal enterprize?
9. Im anti-zionist

Moshe, your a good man for writing this article and voiceing your opinion which I'm sure has alot of support from your fellow people in the settlements. I agree with you 100%, pot should be legal everywhere that alcohol is legal. I smoke pot, and I like it and think that everyone should be able to decide for themselves whether ofr not to do it. The only ones that should not apply to are children under the age of 18. I certainly do not want my kids smoking it while they are under thwe age of 18 (and both of them are) Once they are 18 and/or have moved out of the house, then it becomes their decision alone

poor Feiglin has lost his marbles.
15. No !
Adam Neira ,   Paris, France   (09.20.12)
Cannabis should not be decriminalized. It is true that it is a pain suppressant, but there are reasons why some people's pain exists. Marijuana acts like an anesthetic to dull the pain yet blocks emotional release of repressed feelings. Such release is incredibly cathartic and healing. Moshe Feiglin is either being a populist by pandering to a large stoned base of Israelis or he is just misguided. Either way it is poor public policy. Take note...All empires either collapse or thrive on small points of principle.
16. Its immoral to criminalize a plant. Plain & simple.
Jake ,   USA   (09.21.12)
17. I agree with #15
Keren ,   IL-BR   (09.21.12)
I find it very strange the approach of such issue by Feiglin. It seems populist. He should be approaching matters really relevant for Israel in this moment. The issue mariajuana is secondary and concerned people in Israel are not supposed to vote in a politician because of such issue. I think that he is appealing in order to gain votes in an eventual election and his abordage doesn´t seem nice and not even honest.
18. Also...
Keren ,   IL-BR   (09.21.12)
What does he mean by "This is why I support reducing legislation in general, granting broader autonomy to the average citizen, reducing the State's authority, annulling religious laws, shutting down the Israel Land Administration and returning State-owned lands to their rightful owners – the people of Israel." What´s that? What does he mean? For me,what he says above is crazy.
19. #15 Should be decriminalized , Adam
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (09.21.12)
Weed is non-toxic, unlike tobacco and alcohol. I took note. . .in principle....thrive on small joints and then collapse
20. Are you all high!

21. I agree with Mr. Feiglin
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (09.21.12)
I am against tatoos - so I will not have one. I am against smoking - so I do not smoke. I am against drugs - so I do not use them. I do drink wine - but I do not drive afterward. If people want to take drugs and not steal for their habit or endanger others - I will say nothing whatsoever. It is your body - do what you want with it. I have no rights over another's body. Nor should any other person

24. #15
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (09.21.12)
Feiglin views the family as the central pillar of society, and that parents as responsible for their children. He views the nanny-state as the tool for destroying the family to reprogram society. He is afraid of the day when people depend on the state for everything, and therefore lose their liberty. Feiglin wants real liberty, and that the government stop conditioning people to be drones.
25. #24 Excellent response kol hakavod

26. Welcome To The Free World!
Joe Postove ,   Beit Shemesh Israel   (09.21.12)
I read your article on the legalizarion of drugs with great interest. I think, Moshe, you are on the freedom train and will sooner than later become a libertarian. In democratic nations, mostly, we see that the separation between church and state is a boon to personal freedom and avoids the internecine problems of nations of religious states. Israel has avoided what the religious Islamic states have had to go though, but the situation here as to religion/state issues is getting worse. A thought experiment. Let's examine the separation of church and state, and consider the sparation of the state and everything that men and women can handle on their own. This extends from the economy to the general welfare of the people. The government is big and difficult enough to handle. Allow the people to handle their own affairs. Let's not let China be the first really free state. Joe Postove

28. how surprisingly nice!!
gawain   (09.21.12)
There is probably no other issue on God's green earth on which I agree with Moshe Feiglin, but I bless him for this initiative, and yes, Dr. Jonny is a man-angel, and everything those people oppressing him will never be!
29. agree but cannabis is dangerous
YZ ,   Midwest USA   (09.21.12)
I generally agree -- criminalization of drugs makes things worse. But people should understand that marijuana is in fact very dangerous and not a "light" drug. It causes anxiety and panic attacks in many people, and many studies show it greatly increases the risk for schitzophrenia and other major mental health problems.
30. That Does It!!
