32. Eli Yishai Mocks Yom Kippur
Ed Stack ,   Jerusalem   (09.23.12)
Eli Yishai has succeeded in mocking the sacred nature of Yom Kippur. It is one religious holiday that Israel takes seriously and Eli Yishai makes a mockery of it. All clocks are artificial.Keeping the summer clock a while longer saves energy and energy bills. The impact is well documented. However, Mr. Yishai needs to go against the intent of the holiday for people to afflict themselves and to think about their behavior. Mr. Yishai wants his conveniences so he makes a mockery of the holy day.

My understanding is that the purpose of a fast is to do penitence. One does penitence by inflicting upon one's self pain and enduring hardship. If anything then fasters should prolong the fast and by so doing they will "cleanse" themselves of even the deepest impurities. Personally I eat regular meals every day of the year and consider myself an honest and upright person with a moral code that ensures me of no malpractice and hence no need of "cleansing".

cleansing. You are not an exception. I think that, regarding with contempt towards people with different way of life is a disturbing flaw. Especially on you . Since a stain on a painting of value upsets far more than a stain on a worthless work. Shana Tova,Sagi.

Thats a really intelligent insightful comment. I do not see why the Haredi should impose what they want on the rest of the country. Which is the real issue here, a group of individuals who do not work, do not serve, and do not contribute to the wider Israeli society have a political influence which, frankly is way out of kilter with their numbers. It is bad enough they have to mess about with the time, but to do it for religious and ideological reasons is so 1st Century not 21st Century
41. 40 Sara,i think you should thank...

the Orthodox Jews, who are willing to keep Israel religious. A Secular state in the midst of the Arab world might be rejected like a foreign body.

You cannot have one time zone for the haredi & another one for the general public, its not like taking a bus the country itself must change. Considering the clocks are due to change in a couple of weeks anyway is it such a huge favour to ask to change the clocks early so the observant Jews ( not just haredi ) have an easier time with their fast ? The country does not belong to the seculars and sometimes its not unreasonable to ask seculars to make sacrifices for religious and at other times its not unreasonable to ask religious to make sacrifices for seculars. This whole protest is nothing to do with changing the clocks and if it wasn't being changed early to make life easier for religious Jews who have to fast nobody would think anymore of it and they would just change their clocks and get on with their life. Time for the secular public to end this obsessive hatred for the religious.

Don't fool yourself Sagi. Even your post reeks of self-righteousness and not humble modesty.
