Egypt demand sovereignty over Sinai, but is incapable of imposing sovereignty, so Israel is attacked. Egypt then threaten, that if Israel defends herself they will attack. If there is need for military action in Sinai Bibi will lobby Congress to support it and they will tell Morrisi to keep this as a war of words and Israel will carry out surgical strikes rather than large numbers of tanks. Attacking or attempting military operations in the Sinai without Egyptian consent is foolish. It would be a breach of the peace with Egypt. A peace we as a nation need. What we can do is offer Egypt help in patrolling the Sinai; request UN forces at the border; and harden targets on our side of the border. To unilaterally breach the peace with Egypt would set us back 30 years or more. Are we prepared for a combination of an asymmetrical war with terrorists and a war with Egypt where Egypt would have a legitimate claim that WE were the aggressor?

Egypt may very well, and probably would, suffer massive destruction in a war with Israel, but then again Israel might suffer a lot of damage as well. Fact is that the Muslim Brotherhood govt is never going to find jobs for all those unemployed kids who made the revolution. They may have better use for their youth in the Sinai and the Negev, at least in their own minds. In any case wars are incredibly unpredictable and one never knows what the end result will be.
