2. As soon as rghties feel more important they become-lefties
Tevye ,   Chelm   (09.27.12)
As is here the case with David Ha'Ivri. The moment he starts to appear in articles outside Yudea/Shomron , he feels the need to start thinking like a "real" statesman. They all make the same mistake. In order to become more popular, they are sacrificing their own sanity...
3. You contradict yourself, Ha'ivri
A ,   Belgium   (09.27.12)
On the one hand, you say "the northern border in the Golan has been a quiet one for over 40 years." Great, wonderful, isn't that reason enough to leave well enough alone, especially when dealing with people who have no qualms about murdering their own? But then you have to come up with some unrealistic optimism... "I still doubt that the new Syria could be a worse neighbor to Israel than Assad's." How about Bashars daddy? Wiping out 10,000 of his own people wasn't enough, he had to get involved in a war with Israel, and watch his air force being decimated while sitting on the ground. Or, how about a Hizballah/Hamas type government? Every day, rockets and mortars being fired into Israel (as they once were from the Golan Heights) from two fronts? Things, could be MUCH worse, don't kid yourself. Sit back, watch the arabs wipe themselves out and enjoy the show. Arab disunity is the only thing Israel has ever had in its advantage.
4. one voice of reason doesn't mean syrian voice of reason
zionist forever   (09.28.12)
Right now toppling Assad is the priority in Syria so hatred of Israel has had to take a seat on the back burner for now but that does't mean its gone away or that the post Assad regime is going to be peace loving when it comes to Israel. This letter was written by a man who who is not so stupid as to believe the blind hatred of Israel that most arabs & muslims do but there have always been individuals who think for themselves but the voice of the little man is rarely heard. This whole article sounds like it was written by a peace nick trying to put a positive spin on all of this and convince us that we should do deals.
5. NICE JOB - by both the dissident and D. Ha'ivri's response.
Rafi ,   US   (09.28.12)
... The dissident provides a very clear & realistic assessment of Middle Eastern regimes and their ability to manipulate & divert their populations... Meanwhile as to Israel's response to the Syrian rebellion... like most of the minority populations in Syria (Christian, Druze): justifiable uncertainty about the future reigns. Israel certainly will never "support" the Assad regime - but that doesn't necessarily translate to blind support of the alternatives...
6. Right. Of course.
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.30.12)
I am just aching -- aching, I tell you -- to aid and assist a violent quagmire of Islamist organizations in Syria. Of course I am! I don't think so. Not our problem, as long as it doesn't spill over into the Golan. If it does, of course, Israel will crush Syria -- but we won't be leaving anytime soon. Do keep that in mind.
