1. Why would religious group change its ways at home?
Miron ,   USA   (09.29.12)
It's not a public bus? What this article is about? How to please democratic feelings of Western goim? Why don't the English speaking world try to mend the ways of Amish? Those are much closer to their home and I can assure you, have far more quirky gender segregation rules than Israeli hasids. This is comlete nonsense. Nobody ever objected to any religious people follow their tradition, as long as they do so in ways that do not look like abuse or threat to life. Heck, there are probably 30 or 40 "sweat prophet" camps in Arizona right now.
2. Rejoice as a woman and kick them in the balls as a man.
Michael ,   California, USA   (09.29.12)
Negotiate with Haredim? Not on their lives. They will only understand taking away their welfare checks.
3. #1, there is a huge difference!
Runner1983 ,   USA   (09.29.12)
The Amish are such a small segment of the US population, they really do no not impact US society. In addition, Amish do not try to impost their way of life of others. In addition, they word hard and support themselves without being a welfare burden on the rest of society. In Israel, the Haredim do matter, because they are such a high and rapidly growing portion of Israeli society, and they do try to impose their way of life on others. Due to their growing numbers and the fact that they do not educate their children in secular subjects, are a significant and growing welfare burden, and most haredi men do not serve in the IDF nor work, within a generation or so, Israel may not be able to defend itself.
4. Reasonable resolution
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (09.29.12)
This seems a reasonable resolution to what in perspective is a minor issue, reminiscent of the chap who built an unauthorised sukkah and received a court order giving him ten days to take it down!
5. Hasids barely make up 2% of "faithful".
Miron ,   USA   (09.30.12)
You buddy have no idea what you are talking about. Besides, this article is not about imposing ways on others. It's about denying a tiny sect their ways in the place where their belief heart is. You are an ignorant person talking about things you have no idea about at best. But your speech is a provocation to hateful racist based violence against a tiny group of people in a place where they not only have the right but shed more blood than many nations combined, for the right to continue ways of their fathers. There is no forgivness for this kind of behavior, regardless of your intentions.
6. And what after Souccoth ? again segregation !

talking about. My sources are numerous media articles on almost a daily basis from the Israeli and US press, and conversations with people living in Israel. Are these sources incorrect? The growing number of Haredim who shun modern society is a real issue that must be addressed. Why? Because some day they will make up such a large segment of Israeli society, that it will impact Israel's ability to defend itself. If you don't want to acknowledge this, fine. And don't insult me by calling me a racist. I love Israel, and I am concerned about her future.
8. Dont interfere in Mea Shearim
zionist forever   (09.30.12)
Only haredim live in Mea Shearim, its their little ghetto and so if they chose to live with segregation leave them to it. Unless the women specifically say they don't want segregation then leave them to it because they all share the same culture and so we have no right to attempt to impose secular culture onto them in a ghetto where there are no seculars living.

robbing banksis my own little racket. Don't interfere in it! You have no right to impose your modern laws on me!!
10. #8 but Mea Shearim lies in Israel...
Ze'ev ,   Nbg, germany   (10.01.12)
and therefore the law of Israel rules there too and the law is absoultly clear in that point, saying that misogyny is against the law, even in Mea Shearim!
11. #8 Zio, Kick, take the territory back.

12. don't interfere?
only haredim ,   ottawa   (10.01.12)

13. Zionist forever
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (10.01.12)
Don't you know that seculars come also in Mea Shearim ? That Rechov Strauss is also used by seculars ? Don't tell us that seculars have to adapt themselve when coming there , otherwise i'll tell you that those charedim have also to adapt themselve when coming in other neighborhoods . Remember that some charedi women tried to impose their views in the machane Yehuda market . It are NOT all the charedim , only a part of them , the most fanatic extremists . Charedi women can't complain , nobody listen to them . So they stay silent , as their mothers , grandmothers and so did .

Who owns the street and side walk? Who pays to maintain the street and side walk? Which MUNICIPAL body is responsible for maintaining the street and side walk? Can you really see all that from the USA?
