1. Hobsbawm
Kaplan ,   Ashdod, Israel   (10.01.12)
Hobsbawm signed that disgraceful 'Israel must lose' letter calling for boycotts, divestments, and sanctions back in 2009, so it seems he maintained his ability to get the big questions of the day wrong well into his twilight years
2. Eric Hobsbawn a tribute

Whilst not agreeing with his views regarding israel i have great respect for this man. He lived through an era in Nazi Germany and saw events that most of us cannot imagine. Like many of his generation he became over attached to Communist party propaganda and became a leading intellectual of the left. Much worse he could not even see the terrible effects of Stalin's policies and paranoia and developed a deliberate blindness to the death and destruction that they bought. However taking all these faults into account , reading his works does indeed stretch your mind . Everything he wrote is carefully researched and well sourced and when you finished reading just one page you felt that you had absorbed at least ten. His intellect was peculiar to Jews of his generation, such as Isaac Deutche and Herbert Marcuse. We should really take pride in such people and realize that we are a diverse people with many talents. and opinions
3. #2,it like taking pride in the muse of Mussolini

a Jewess from Rome who had inspired him to "carry on the greatness of the Ancient Rome" .. Great good has it brought to herself and her bretheren.

Not quite. Those who have lived life for a bit longer , like Hobsbawn, once knew of a time when the Communist party was the only organization that was prepared to come onto the streets and risk their lives to defend Jews when they were attacked by fascists. Is it any surprise that some Jews should have a memory of that time? Only those who shirked the fight and hid in the shadows would have no memory of this.
5. A grotesque character
Philippe ,   paris   (10.01.12)
Hobsbawm was a grotesque historian trying to conceal every facts that contradicted his blind love of communism. It's areal pity he had not the courage to place his ass where it belonged in the soviet union to freeze to death in the Gulag with the real intellectuals.Typical piece of compulsory lier just died.and by the way he was an anti-semite exactly as marx, denying any historical and natural rights to the jewish people.
