If Assad is completely insane and draws Israel into the conflict using chemical and biological weapons, then Syria will simply cease to exist. Do not discount the possibility, however, that the mortar fired from Syria into Turkey may have been a deliberate act by the rebel forces in Syria seeking to expand the conflict, as they have already done in Lebanon and in Iraq.
